View Full Details of Shockerwick House Care HomeShockerwick House Care Home has been magnificent in looking after my 100 year old godmother including giving her a fabulous party for her birthday. The staff are all very caring and I have enjoyed good meals with her every week, also been involved in the excellent chair yoga sessions. Her room and all the surroundings are magnificent. The gardens are splendid and thoroughly enjoyed in the good weather. We're not happy about security as one of the residents walked all the way to the main road unsupervised. Otherwise wonderful.
All the staff at Shockerwick House Care Home without exception treated my mother and our family with the utmost kindness, warmth and dignity at the most awful of times. They went out of their way at every encounter to give my mum the peace and comfort she needed in her final days. After weeks of being treated quite inhumanely whilst in hospital, at Shockerwick my mum was treated with respect and kindness. It was the only beacon of light in a very dark summer for us all and I can't commend the staff highly enough.
My two-week stay at Shockerwick House contributed greatly to my recuperation after a fall which fractured my pelvis. The staff were professional, kind, and helpful. They went out of their way many times to ensure that my stay was a good beneficial experience. I am very grateful to them for looking after me so well. I would have no hesitation in returning if I needed to.
I can very much recommend Shockerwick House! I am a full time carer for my wife. When I had a 2 week respite care break recently my wife stayed at Shockerwick House. This is the third time she has stayed here. The staff are really friendly and warm. I completely felt she was in caring hands and was able have a break and not worry about her. She had a super room with wonderful views across the valley. She enjoyed the food and felt safe herself and that the staff were available at any time to help if needed. Her room and ensuite bathroom were spotlessly clean and warm. The staff were really helpful to me, sorting out her medication and understanding her needs.
Shockerwick House is a beautiful Georgian Mansion House with an interesting history. It has lovely gardens, outstanding views and the feel of a luxury boutique hotel that is a family home. My parents are in their late nineties, and after a very independent lifestyle, they moved into a fabulous double room at the beginning of this year. They were apprehensive at first but were soon won over by the unfailing kindness and cheerfulness of all the staff. Everyone goes above and beyond and is professional and communicative at all times. I feel reassured my parents are as happy as they can be, whilst receiving the very best care available in a happy and caring environment where they are always treated with patience and respect.
My mother loves living at Shockerwick House. She has issues with her mobility of which all the staff are very helpful and supportive. She feels safe and has a comfortable room with everything she needs. Mum praises the staff for being so supportive and professional with her everyday needs. The nursing home is managed well. The manager has been very supportive. As a family it’s important to know Mum is happy and can truly call Shockerwick House her home. We are very grateful.
I would highly recommend Shockerwick, firstly because it is the only care home in the area that was willing to accommodate dual They have a beautiful, light airy room with views across the countryside, fitting in with the rest of the historic house which feels more like a country hotel than a care home. The staff are all unfailingly friendly and helpful and with a high standard of care, understanding and patience with all the idiosyncrasies that can occur with elderly people. Both my parents have really blossomed since they have been there and we are looking forward to warmer days when we can visit with them in the lovely gardens.
My mother has settled well in Shockerwick and seems really happy here. There is good communication with staff. The birthday celebration they organised for my mother was planned with care, which we all enjoyed, and the chef made an excellent tiramisu. It would be easier if I could pay into the float for hairdressing etc by bank transfer or card rather than cash.
My friend has been in the care home for 15 years and is very happy there. The home keeps me updated with their health and is always happy to help with any issues I might have. The care is good, and the meals are great. The home is always clean and tidy.
I am very happy with the kindness, care and attention shown to me by the excellent personal carers and staff during my stay at Shockerwick House.
It is a beautiful building and I am well fed and looked after. I think it is very poor that nothing happens on Saturday and Sunday. I am glad to have the telephone but friends find it difficult to get through and there is no facility for leaving a message.
Shockerwick House has the advantage of being a beautiful building in outstanding surroundings. Having said that, it doesn't rely on that alone. The care staff are superb, going out of their way to be cheerful, helpful and thoughtful, interacting (so important) whilst still working hard. Meals generally, were excellent (sadly, due to medication) I was not always receptive to food! I would say that the rule of a minimum two week stay does seem excessive taking into account the cost and nature of respite time required.
The staff at Shockerwick House Care Home have been amazing with our son and adapted to his needs as he is only 31 years of age. No care homes would accept him due to his age but we are so grateful that they accepted him at their lovely home. Even though he is young his personal care is high. They are constantly looking at things that would help him and make his stay as enjoyable as can be due to his disability. Once again I would like to express my gratitude to all the staff.
I was in Shockerwick House for a fortnight's respite care following a foot fusion operation which meant that I was unable to weight-bear on my right leg. Shockerwick House is a large Georgian building set on exceptionally attractive grounds. It is a very efficiently managed care home, the staff are all very kind and helpful, and most of them have been there for many years. I could not have asked for better care; the carers were always cheerful, the nurses attentive, and I enjoyed the atmosphere. The food was good too. I strongly recommend Shockerwick House for those who need the care of the highest order.
My mum was only at the home for a very short time receiving end-of-life care. The decision to move her to Shockerwick was honestly the best we could have made to ensure that her last few days were dignified and that she was taken wonderful care of. The whole team at Shockerwick clearly are filled with compassion, and this shows up in how they treated not just my mum but our entire family. They were kind, honest and made sure that we knew what was happening at all times and nothing was ever a bother for them. The comfort we all had knowing she was receiving the very best care meant we were able to see her as a family and not as carers which made our final days with her meaningful. It is rare to meet people who are genuine and caring about what they do and how they do it, but the team at Shockerwick went above and beyond on every level. We will forever be grateful for what they did for my mum and for us as a family. I cannot recommend the home and the team there more highly.
All the staff are very professional and caring whether they are carers, housekeeping and catering staff, reception or admin staff. And great nursing care too, with nursing staff who have a lot of experience. The activities for the residents are very good and varied and have lots of attention to detail, decorating communal areas, individual encouragement to residents to take part in events etc. During Covid, there were excellent safety precautions in place whilst the home was also aware of the need for residents to have contact with relatives wherever possible and whenever safe to do so.
I am quite happy with the service I am given. I have a very pleasant room, which is well looked after. All staff are very helpful and friendly. I have no grumbles!
My father went into Shockerwick for a month's respite, with a view to a permanent stay if he liked it. He and we are very impressed by and pleased with the facilities and the professional, kind and considerate staff. His room is large, light and airy, and he has been able to furnish it with his own things, even on respite. I have been kept fully in the picture with regard to his welfare and any developments and can visit at any time. My father is relieved to be well looked after and well fed and cared for. Whilst he has found it heart-wrenching to have left his beloved home, he has decided to become a permanent resident, as he feels Shockerwick is the best choice for him.
After two weeks here, I am sitting up in bed with my breakfast, watching "match of the day"! It can't get better than that. Dreading coming into care, but have been very surprised by how much I have enjoyed it. I am allowed to do my own things in my own way, but secure on the knowledge that help is there should I need it. Feels safe and secure. I cannot speak highly enough of the staff - always smiling, obliging, patient and compassionate. Loved the company of staff and residents. I have recommended Shockerwick House to other people.
Shockerwick House is wonderful, and my brother has a beautiful room, actually a suite. He has attentive care from the nursing staff, who change his dressings every day. As he has very poor mobility, a motion sensor has been provided for his room, connected to the call button. What a good idea! However, sometimes he says he has to wait quite a long time for assistance after pressing the call button, but this is due to a shortage of staff, I believe. Overall. I am very pleased with his care.
