View Full Details of The Leonard Elms Care HomeI'm doing a review again because I honestly think this care home is amazing. My mum has had a rough time lately with many seizures related to Alzheimer's and I have been so well supported by the staff to make decisions regarding her ongoing care. They also have been so fabulous with my mum and her behaviour. She is well cared for. The food is cooked on site and good quality and varied. My mum remains physically well because of this and despite her challenging condition she is happy as the staff are so good. They love her like family and that's such a relief and means I don't worry so much. The nursing team is truly excellent, and caring, supportive and sensible decision making. I can approach the manager at any time, and she is excellent. They know my mum very well and are so patient and caring. The activities on are really really good. There's always something going on. They also educate relatives. It's absolutely outstanding. We are well-supported.
From the beginning of my husband's stay at The Leonard Elms (nearly 3 years), I have been very happy with the care he has received. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and they will often go the extra mile to ensure the comfort and well-being of the residents. Visitors are allowed any time (pandemics permitting)! and always made very welcome. I would recommend the home to anyone seeking specialist dementia care.
The care, attention and love to our family member was extremely high standard, all four years Dad was with his Elm's family. All staff supported us all in many different ways.
My mum has been a resident for 2 1/2 years with dementia which has been and is very distressing for her family. However, our distress has been mitigated by the high standard of care both she and we experience from the staff. During Covid, a hard time for everyone and particularly for nursing home staff, communication was good and since then, the staff have accommodated the needs of the residents and their families as best they can. As my mum's condition has worsened and as an ex-nurse myself, I have been impressed by the high standard of nursing care carried out by all grades of staff.
Unfortunately, covid has restricted the number of times I have visited my husband, who has been in the care home for six months. However, on these visits, I have found the staff attentive, helpful and friendly. My son, my daughter and I are happy with the care and facilities he has at The Leonard Elms care home.
The care of my husband is exemplary. The staff are kind and caring to both myself and my husband. they go to great lengths to ensure that my husband has food that he can both eat and enjoy. He is content and kept clean and tidy. He can walk around unhindered, which he needs to. He is well looked after.
My father spent the last few months of his life at Leonard Elms nursing home and my brother and I were very impressed with the level of care he received at the home. The strength of this home is the remarkable people who care for the residents who really seem to be dedicated and seem to care deeply for the health and happiness of their residents. The home communicated really well with my brother and I and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. We particularly appreciated how caring the staff were in Dad's final few days, which included great care about his comfort and wellbeing as well as great compassion for the members of the family, who visited. We can’t thank you all enough for your kindness and compassion.
The staff at The Leonard Elms Care Home nursed my mother during the last weeks of her life with the greatest respect, dignity and love from the moment she arrived. My son and I were also cared for with the utmost kindness, surrounded by a warm, family atmosphere. A truly professional, caring team of remarkable people.
My husband moved into The Leonard Elms in July 2020, right in the middle of the Covid pandemic. It was a very difficult time as I was unable to visit the home to view his room and facilities. The management and staff were very understanding and helpful. I only got to see my husbands room in the last few days of his life in January. So I'm unable to rate everything. I cannot fault the care he was given.
My mother was a resident in The Leonard Elms Care Home for almost 18-months. I cannot fault the care she received from both the nursing and care staff at the home. They were very patient, showed great respect to my mother, and helped her in many ways to have a happy time there a possible. The management team were always very approachable and helpful and were always happy to assist when I called to speak with my mother. The only comment I would make regarding any improvements that can be made is that the entertainment provided to the residents could be improved. Even before the Covid pandemic, there was not a lot of organised activities to occupy mothers mind. However, I know they are aware of this and talking to address.
My husband was a resident at The Leonard Elms Care Home for twelve months. The kindness he received from staff and management was very good and I had no worries whatsoever.
My brother was very happy at The Leonard Elms Care home and received good care. Thank you.
Both my parents have resided at The Leonard Elms Care Home for a number of years and have always received the greatest respect from all the staff. They provide excellent care and ensure my parents have everything they need. Sadly my father died on the 15th June 2020, but, despite Covid-19 the care and compassion he received during his last days were wonderful. He always said it was " The best care home in the world". These are carers who are and they respected his dignity to the end. I can only say thank you to them.
Finding The Leonard Elms has been a total blessing for my mother and my family and that's entirely due to the excellent management there and the high-quality care, lovingly and professionally provided by all the nursing and care staff. The individual care my mother enjoys is tailored around her needs and gracefully given. Mum is no longer stressed or frightened (as she has been elsewhere), but feels happy, well supported and relaxed. Nurses and care staff (and managers), are proactive and I feel I don't have to be constantly on guard for, and chasing problems - the staff are fully across my mother's needs and we couldn't be happier. Currently, there's a lack of activities, but managers are acting on this and looking to employ an activities coordinator. Great.
The care shown to this individual during the course of her five-year stay has gradually improved over that time and her surroundings changed markedly throughout that period. The professionalism shown certainly over the last two years has reflected the efforts of the home to provide quality care to the highest standards. Staffing I think has been a problem but typical of an organisation that is dependant on a shifting workforce. There has however been a core of dedicated and motivated staff who have provided and measured the care standards. Overall and on a human scale she was shown that degree of empathy and affection during her stay and coping with severe dementia which I felt was well meaning, sympathetic and loving on a professional scale. I would have no hesitation to recommend the home to others. It also meant a great deal when a senior member of staff attended her funeral many miles away from the home.
My husband was in this home for approximately 7 years. He had vascular dementia and was looked after by very caring staff. The home has been amazing, not only to my husband but to me and our children. Nothing has ever been too much for them in dealing with a resident with dementia and all the challenging behaviours which, unfortunately, comes with the illness. He was very happy from the start of his stay up until he received excellent end of life care. All staff at the home have been amazing and I cannot thank them enough. I would recommend this home to anyone.
My father's care was second to none. It was the second time I have asked The Leonard Elms to assist in the palliative care of a relative, and on both, very sad occasions the compassion, care, help, advice, support and friendliness was of the highest standard. I will always be grateful to all the lovely staff who looked after my lovely Dad.
My husband, who died in November, was resident from January 2012. Initially, a member of the mental health team visited him weekly, then monthly and finally twice a year due to government policy. During the early years, the staff were allowed to assist him getting into and out of our car, but due to his frailty, he was unable to go out as the care home said, due to health and safety, they were unable to help. I used wheelchair taxis for hospital appointments and occasional trips.
From the time we first arrived to mothers passing, which was under 2 weeks, every member of staff was courteous, friendly and always able to spare time to talk which was very comforting. I do not have much experience of care homes, but if The Elms is typical then the service on offer is first class.
We have found the care to be excellent. The staff are friendly and show a genuine concern for residents. The activities were good although it's been a long time since Dad could engage with them.
