View Full Details of Barchester Kernow House Care HomeBoth my father and mother received the best of care at Barchester Kernow House Care Home for nearly twenty years and we have no concerns in recommending the home to families in a similar situation. The home is spotlessly clean and nothing was too much trouble regarding our parents' well-being and care. All the staff were approachable and pleasant and you knew, on leaving the home, that our parents were treated with dignity and respect. The staff made dealing with Alzheimer's and dementia more bearable for us, as a family, and we will always be grateful to the manager and the team for the high level of care they provided.
My mother has been a resident of Barchester Kernow House Care Home in Launceston now for a few years and I cannot recommend their care and attention to detail enough. The care team and management are clearly a very driven unit to deliver such exemplary care and upon my regular visits to Mum, I find the whole experience a pleasure and to know my mum is really being cared for. I reside some distance away and have had options in the past to move Mum closer to me and see a her lot more frequently but I could not dream of this based on how happy Mum and family are. Mum is always found happy, clean and very well-fed! In summary, despite our hardships in life with such matters taking their course, I'm rather glowing about this particular care environment. Hope this review might help someone making those first hard steps in decision-making.
The care my father has received at Barchester Kernow House Care Home over the last two years has been second to none. From the moment he arrived, the staff made him feel at home and ensured he was content and happy. I have always been made to feel especially welcome whenever I have visited and the staff are all extremely friendly and helpful. The meals are well varied and of a very high quality and the activities programme is wonderful; I have been lucky enough to experience singing and a visit from the ice cream trolley with my father whilst visiting which brought him a lot of joy. I couldn't have asked for anymore from Kernow House, everything has been brilliant and I would highly recommend them.
My sister, aged 89 years, has been at Barchester Kernow House Care Home since 2019, initially in St. Pirans Unit and from 2021, in Millaton. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2012 and now requires full-time care - following a previous residential care home plus a separate nursing home. This enables us to comment with comparative experience. We feel so fortunate, as a family, that our sister and favourite godmother to several of our grandchildren is so well looked after in her final years. There is genuine belief, from the general manager down to the unit nursing care and support staff, to recognise and respond to the individual needs, moods and support for our lovely family member. When visiting, it is clear to see how much the staff love and enjoy what they do. We continue to appreciate the safety, love and care which she gets.
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Barchester Kernow House Care Home. My husband has now been in this home for eighteen months. First of all St Pirans, then Petherin and now Millaton unit. I cannot speak too highly of the care, support, dedication and love you have given to my darling husband and to me, family and friends when we visit. I a deeply indebted to the management, nurses, carers, receptionists, kitchen staff, cleaners and to everyone who works there. You all go over and beyond your call of duty. I admire and I'm eternally grateful to you all and I hold a special place in my heart for you all. Thank you so much.
I am glad to have this opportunity to tell Barchester Kernow House Care Home, I have visited my friend's husband with her every week, I found the care outstanding. The staff are always polite, professional and kind. Some, in my opinion, go the extra mile, to my friend in particular, they have treated her so kindly at a very difficult time. It has certainly helped her. So important to relatives to know their loved ones are in good hands.
The whole team at Barchester Kernow House Care Home deserve so much praise! From the manager and carers to the cleaners and the kitchen! Every single person I have met has always had my dad's best interests at heart. He is treated like a person and not just his dementia diagnosis. My father is a resident on Petherwin unit and every single time we arrive for a visit, the carers on this unit are so welcoming. I truly can't thank them enough for their caring, supportive and empathetic approach to all areas of my dad's care. They have made a hard decision a lot easier to cope with. Petherwin unit has some of the most amazing carers and deserve to be recognised for the extremely hard job that they do every day. Thank you so much.
My wife has been in your care for eight years now and at all times, I have been totally satisfied with the attention she gets from the staff. Their attention and respect shown to her make visiting her so much easier.
The Millaton ward cared for my mum for the last five years of her life whilst in the later stages of Huntington's disease. She had her own personalised room which we were free to make feel like her own whilst she had a view over Cornwall; where she grew up and always wished to return to. Most of all, it was the passionate carers who invested so much love and dedication in their role. Not only were they amazing at making Mum feel at home but also myself and my family. This was especially appreciated during Covid times where the staff and the home did all they could to make us feel welcome whilst adhering to the social distancing restrictions. After Covid, the staff strived to give Mum the best life she could possibly have with live music in the home, a visiting hairdresser and beautician to help residents retain as much identity and dignity as possible. I'll always be so grateful for everything the Millaton ward did to support my family and would recommend to anybody.
My husband has only recently moved into this care home, it is quite a way to travel for me but what a lovely experience each time I have visited. A cup of tea is offered as soon as I sit down and the care team couldn't be kinder, they are so patient with other residents as well as my husband. And they welcome dogs!
My husband has been in Barchester Kernow House Care Home two years on the 14th June and has received the best of care at all times. Visitors are always welcome at all times by all the staff.
Kernow House has been exceptional from start to finish. Our dad has spent 16 months in their care, both in St Pirans and then Petherin unit. Each and every single health carer, nurse and all other staff have been so kind, caring, considerate, compassionate and friendly every time we have visited. Dad has never been so well-fed! It's been nice to see him smiling despite his crippling dementia. Thank you all - and to the manager for facilitating Dad's latest move, we will miss your smiley faces!
My brother-in-law has been in St Pirans Unit since the beginning of the year. His care during his time with you has been absolutely exceptional. I am overawed by the incredible patience and kindness shown to my brother-in-law and the wonderful care he has received. I am so, so grateful to all the staff in St Pirans Unit and would like to thank them from the bottom of my heart.
I have nothing but praise for Barchester Kernow House Care Home. My partner has settled in so well and is obviously well cared for by all the staff who are always friendly and helpful. They have made what is a horrible situation much easier to deal with. Every aspect of his care is excellent, in particular, his personal care which was a problem in his previous placement.
I am very pleased with the care given to my father in the care home. I am lucky that I can visit him regularly, due to my timings and the nearness. However, I would have no worries if I couldn't visit for a prolonged period of time. The carers have got to know my dad, how to distract him and especially how to keep him safe. I feel very lucky that we found him a place in this home.
I only visited Barchester Kernow House Care Home on two occasions but both times, I was struck by the positive atmosphere created by the staff. What I saw of the home was absolutely spotless, residents clean and well-dressed. It felt as though the staff cared about the residents as individuals -as borne out by low turnover of staff.
My sister has been a resident since January 2024. She has received excellent care since moving in. The staff go out of their way to meet her needs wherever possible. The accommodation is like home from home with good quality meals. All the staff have been welcoming and very happy to answer any questions put to them.
Always welcoming, caring and attentive to my brother's needs. He will not get out of bed so, unfortunately, misses out on a great offering of activities. I am more than satisfied with his care at the home.
The staff at Barchester Kernow House Care Home looked after our mum through a very tough time as Mum went through the late stages of dementia. They were always very caring and kind. Mum was always turned out very nicely when we visited. We were always kept up to date of any issues with Mum. She couldn't have been cared for any better and we're very grateful to all the staff.
I would just like to say how grateful I am to all the nurses/carers and staff in the Millaton unit. They are always very helpful/kind and extremely helpful when I telephone especially as due to distance and incapacity we find it quite difficult to get to see my brother, as my husband is nearly 80 he finds driving long distances difficult and cannot cope driving in the dark any longer.
