View Full Details of Trelana Nursing HomeMy wife was transferred from hospital to Trelana for 'end of life' palliative care and while I was worried about what this involved, it was explained on arrival by the management team and we were made very welcome. I visited my wife every day more or less for several hours and also stayed all night once, and spending so long at the home, I was able to watch the staff at work and was amazed at the level of care, compassion and astonishing patience they had and this was absolutely genuine which I found very humbling. I had a few low spots due to my wife's condition and they could not have been nicer to me as they also look after the welfare of the residents loved ones too which was much appreciated. It felt more like a family home with everyone, staff and residents mixing whether they were on duty or not which came as a surprise. The food which I also ate many times was excellent and varied. When my wife passed away it was sad to say goodbye to my new friends at the home.
Our dear friend was brought to Trelana Nursing Home on 17th May. Although tired he was pleased to be back in Bude, liked his room and the fact the sun shone in and he could see the sea. The staff introduced themselves and said they would keep our friend as comfortable as possible, pain free and look after him. This they certainly did. Also making sure we were ok. We visited regularly, sadly our friend deteriorated very quickly: I do strongly believe he knew he was safe and being looked after, but also back in his home town. He passed peacefully away after being in Trelana for just 8 days. The care our dear friend was given and ourselves was outstanding. We were even booked in for lunch the day he passed away in case we were still at the home at that time. Thank you to you all for all you did. We will never forget your kindness. Keep up the hard and dedicated work.
My dear mum passed away this month and when we lost Dad in June 2020, she went into Trelana for respite care, originally and settled really quickly. She was there 14 months in total. During this time, although we were in lock down for part of it, I was still able to Face time her or visit in a secure pod. During her stay, I have been very impressed with the care she received across the board, from HCAs, chefs, Managers to clinical staff. As Mum's mobility became progressively worse, they accommodated her needs. The staff loved and cared for Mum in such a wonderful way and they became her extended family. They loved her and brought out her true character and she was happy, considering the circumstances. During the recent end of life, which was 18 days in total, they supported me and my family every day and genuinely cared and went on the sad journey with me. When they are short staffed, they pull together to give the care to the residents that they deserve, they do a really fantastic job.
The staff are always so helpful and always willing to go that extra mile. I live so far away and can only phone to keep up to date with my mothers health and welfare. The staff are always busy but always take the time to answer my questions and even if they can’t, they always get someone to call me back. They are so compassionate when I get upset due to my mothers frailty. I couldn’t have wished for a better place than Trelana, thank you to all the incredible staff.
My uncle has been a resident of Trelana since April 2017. I am very happy with the care my uncle has received. He is well cared for, and the home regularly communicates with me to update me on his condition. The home is clean and well looked after, and the staff are friendly and caring.
My mum has been a resident of Trelana for 6 years, suffering from vascular dementia; she was originally accommodated on the ground floor. As her mental and physical health deteriorated, Trelana's staff and I agreed she would benefit from being moved to the lower floor, where the staff ratio is more appropriate to the advanced stages of dementia. Mum spends her days with her bag packed, waiting for her own mother to come and take her back to Ireland, the country she left back in 1949. In spite of mum's occasional outbursts of aggression, the care staff in Trelana are unfailingly patient, respectful, good-humoured and genuinely caring with this poor lost elderly lady. I am always kept informed about Mum's health/medical issues, all of which are picked up very quickly by the care staff. The staff have also been incredibly supportive to me when things might have become a bit too much. The main thing is that I know Mum is being properly cared for 24-hours a day, 365 days a year.
My mum has been a resident at Trelana Nursing Home for nearly two and a half years now. When she first arrived, she settled in straight away with the help of the caring staff. She has dementia and had been having hallucinations, these seemed to settle down pretty quickly and I believe she was relieved to not have to worry about anything any more. Her general condition has deteriorated over time and she is now immobile so is wheeled about the place, but I understand she is generally still her old self - sense of humour and so on. She loves the excellent food! Unfortunately she has very little sight left and very poor hearing so I haven’t had a proper visit with her since lockdown last year. I am hoping that Trelana will soon have the protocols in place to allow face to face visits. With regards to Covid, Trelana took the decision to lockdown early and so have kept their residents safe and well. I get regular updates on Mum’s wellbeing and am informed of any changes to her situation.
I moved my Mom and Dad to Trelana from Birmingham in April 2019, so that they could be together and nearer to me. From the first time I viewed the home with the manager, I knew that it was perfect for my parents. The manager and her wonderful team did everything to make sure that Mom and Dad had everything they needed. Mom had COPD, so there was never an issue getting her the equipment she needed to live as normal and comfortable a life as possible. It was also arranged that she could be attached to an oxygen machine in the dining room so that she could have her meals with everyone else (this wasn't possible at her previous home). Mom and Dad were encouraged to join in with all the activities that Trelana offer and even day trips. Sadly Mom passed away in November 2019, and Trelana were wonderfully supportive. Dad is still very happy living there. I would not hesitate to recommend Trelana Nursing Home; the management and staff are absolutely wonderful. Trelana feels like home.
Dad was placed at Trelana in a step-down bed after a stay in the hospital. Mum had been placed in a care home in Looe. I had tried to arrange for a bed in Looe with Mum, but none became available. I told the manager of Trelana this. The following day, she rang me to say they had a lovely room that could be made available as a double room for Mum and Dad. This is just one example of the genuine care that has been shown to our family, and our parents in particular, at Trelana. It is just such a pity that we all live so far away from Trelana, as we would have loved them to stay in their lovely room, being looked after so well. Since we all live in the far west of Cornwall, the family wished to move them closer so we can all visit more easily, but we cannot recommend Trelana and its staff highly enough.
I can't thank the teams at Trelana enough for all they do. My mum was taken to Trelana from Spain following the death of her husband. She was unable to cope alone. Mum really didn't want to live in a home, and the first few weeks were very traumatic for her. However, the teams went way over and beyond to help her settle in. She has now been there for over 18-months and is very happy and settled. She loves the staff who all make a fuss of her and has befriended one of the home cats who spends most of the day with her. The staff organised events all the time, and even during the pandemic, have managed to keep their residents safe and cared for. The home is clean, well-staffed with committed and caring people. I am so glad we chose Trelana and would recommend it to anyone. Mum looks 10-years younger now, hairdressers visit, chiropody attends, and the teams keep creating additional things for all the residents to take part in. We are also kept fully informed of everything to do with Mum.
My father has been in Trelana for 14-months. He had mild Dementia when he first arrived, but during the last year, his Dementia has become worse and he has also developed mobility problems. The home has reacted to these changing circumstances with care and compassion. They have handled his transition to the Dementia Unit with as little distress as possible. Due to his Dementia, he is not the easiest patient to provide for, but the staff are sympathetic to his moods and needs and never fail to treat him with patience and respect. Personally, I have seen both sides of visiting. Prior to Covid, we would be together in his room with as much privacy as required. Since Covid, the secure visiting room has provided as normal a visiting experience as possible and has been much appreciated. Overall, I could not be happier with all the excellent staff, the great care provided to my father and useful and timely information regarding my father's health.
I have been very impressed with the staff and care provided at Trelana. The staff are very polite and know their residents well. They’re always calm and smiling, and if they don’t know the answer to a question, they will find out. The care provided at Trelana is excellent. Especially in these recent difficult times, the home has worked hard to keep the residents as in touch with their families as possible. I’m endlessly impressed and grateful for the service they provide.
Mum is very happy at Trelana and, given I live in Australia, it has taken a great weight off of my mind to know that she is in such good hands and receiving such a high standard of care. The staff are genuine and caring and go above and beyond to make sure that Mum has everything that she needs. I really can't recommend them highly enough - they do a fantastic job.
My mother, who had previously been adamant that she did not want to go into residential care, has been at Trelana for 18-months now and is very happy. She has as much autonomy as she wants, but there is always nursing or general support when she needs it. She has a large well-equipped room (though she did upgrade from a smaller non-en suite at extra cost) and there are several common areas allowing people to watch TV or carry out other activities as they want. In particular, Trelana puts a lot of effort into organising entertainment and stimulation, such as regular themed days and Xmas parties/birthday cakes (regulations permitting). The staff are friendly and committed, and the response to the coronavirus challenge seems to have been well-coordinated to date, with dedicated, long term staff, rather than an excessive reliance on the agency.
My husband moved to Trelana Nursing Home in mid-November. He has vascular dementia and has suffered strokes, which have affected his balance and mobility. The staff at Trelana welcomed him so well that he did not realise I was not with him, and they knew exactly how to handle a very emotional moment. They also empathised with me and reassured me that he would be well looked after, and to contact them at any time with any questions or concerns. He is receiving excellent care, and I am totally reassured that he is in a safe and well cared for environment. All the staff go out of their way to assist, and nothing is too much trouble, there is an enormous amount of interaction between the staff and the residents, and they totally understand the different moods that residents have and adjust their care accordingly. The home is safe, and the procedures particularly with the pandemic, are excellent, and to be able to visit within a secure pod is fantastic.
I consider my mum lucky to be a resident at Trelana Nursing Home. Whilst there, she's moved to a larger room to accommodate all her treasured belongings that hold such precious memories. This alone has made it a home from home experience for her. Then, the care, fun and love she's received from staff are well, just above a beyond anything I thought any nursing home was capable of. Their attention to Mum's needs- both medical and emotional -even before the pandemic- was outstanding, but since then - (especially as Mum's had two falls, breaking a hip - neccessitating surgery, and a broken pelvis) Trelana's staff have completely and utterly surpassed themselves. From the cleaners, activity leaders, receptionists and nurses to the manageress- ( infact, roles there often overlap!) I feel full of gratitude to every single member of Trelana's staff for daily going that extra mile! It gives me peace and reassurance that when I'm not with her that her second family are - in whatever capacity is needed.
With our father a resident at Trelana, we have been so impressed by the way in which everyone in the Trelana team has worked hard and selflessly throughout the Covid crisis to ensure loved ones have continued to receive the high-quality care and support that is a feature of the home. It has also been fantastic that whilst taking all appropriate precautions, Trelana has quietly and proactively put in place a range of measures that have allowed family members to continue visiting - this has been such a blessing and greatly appreciated (we have relations with family members in other care homes who have not seen each other for months, so we know this is not a given). The Covid-secure visitor's booth built in the sensory room is brilliant, and it was most impressive that staff quickly responded to feedback as the new facility bedded in (for example providing the microphones and lights). We were also very grateful that Trelana managed to get all the residents vaccinated so quickly.
Father has been at Trelana now for three years the care that he has received from all of the staff has been excellent. Also, I am kept informed of everything that is going on with my dad.
My mum has been a resident at Trelana Nursing Home for almost 2 years. During this time, I feel she has been very well cared for by extremely dedicated, caring, friendly, hard-working staff. She appears to be happy here and I genuinely believe the staff like her. The food is varied, well presented and plenty of it, drinks are always on her bedside table. Her room is lovely, bright and clean with a beautiful view of the sea. The home is always clean and smells fresh. The reception staff are very welcoming and there's plenty of parking. There's a bar for residents and their families to gather and socialise. The entertainment co-ordinater always has interesting things planned for the residents. I feel very fortunate that Mum is living in this lovely environment.
Trelana was recommended to me by the Cornwall Dementia team and I have had no cause to regret placing my father in their care, despite the fact I live 200 miles away.
