View Full Details of Blackdown Nursing HomeBlackdown Nursing Home is absolutely wonderful. The staff are so kind and caring that my husband settled immediately. The care he was given was exceptional and that gave me complete confidence that he was in safe hands. If the staff had any concerns - even minor - they would call and let me know, so that I was always informed. If he wanted to have a walk about, there was always a member of staff nearby to keep an eye on him and help if he was a bit wobbly that day! Every time I visited, I was so impressed with everything - from the attentive nursing staff and the smiling chef with his super meals, to the activities, which were varied and excellent. His south-facing bedroom was lovely with stunning views across the village and Dartmoor. Management manage the home faultlessly, along with ample staff. I will be forever grateful to them all for making his final weeks the best they could be. Thank you to the entire wonderful team.
My husband had a stroke which has left him unable to walk, incontinent and with only a little speech. He's very tired and rather depressed but the staff are always very kind and caring and try to cheer him up with a kind word and lots of humour. They try to make him say a word here and there and have taught him to sing a few songs to help his speech along. The management is always trying to improve things and has changed his room around twice to make it better for him. He has a lovely view out over the garden where rabbits and squirrels pop up now and then and there are many care animals which come in for a visit, it's always nice to have a good furry cuddle. A big thank you to the management and staff for taking care of him and making a difficult situation so much more bearable.
My godmother moved to Blackdown Nursing Home in August and I have found the staff really helpful and positive. I was concerned that moving to a new home would be upsetting for her but the staff have done their best to make her at ease. The home is clean and tidy. Today was special because she was able to leave her bed and spend time in the day room listening to songs sung by a visiting entertainer.
Just generally, the care for my mum is fantastic, all staff are always happy and friendly and I always feel relaxed knowing how well she is looked after, thank you so much. I cannot pick a certain specific time to comment on as generally, my mum's care is spot on. She can be very argumentative and I know all the staff are very tolerant.
The manager and the team at Blackdown Nursing Home are outstanding. It's hard giving over the care of my husband to someone else but I know they give him the best care possible. The team there are the best - so kind and caring. Every single member of the team shows so much care and respect for my husband. Visiting him is a joy as it is such a happy place. Thank you Blackdown team for taking such amazing care of my husband.
The staff are amazing and really care passionately for their residents. Nothing is too much trouble. The manager and admin staff are equally as important and answer queries very quickly as well as very supportive to residents and loved ones. I feel safe knowing Dad is with you. Thank you.
Blackdown Nursing home is a friendly, caring and super efficient in nursing care for my mum. They always answer any questions I have and explain any ongoing concerns clearly. I know my mum is in the best capable hands and trust all the staff with my mum's care. The home is clean, tidy and provides good nutritious meals.
My mum was so well looked after in her final days at Blackdown Nursing Home, the care was fantastic, nothing was too much trouble for the staff, I was kept fully updated with everything. I can't thank the staff enough for their compassion and care, I would definitely recommend this nursing home to anyone.
My mum has only recently moved into the home and I already feel that it is by far the best she has been in to date. The staff are extremely friendly but also have the highest standard of care and professionalism to both the residents and visitors. The home itself is welcoming, cheerful and pleasant to spend time in, it has great facilities and the rooms and communal areas are all very nice.
All staff are kind and caring - most important! Bedroom quite small but has a beautiful view of garden and up to the moor. Room has a wash basin but an ensuite lavatory and shower would be ideal. Outside areas are secure and pleasant. My husband enjoys the food.
My husband was so well looked after, the staff are excellent.
Great kindness to residents and their family. Friendly smiles, considerate personal care. Family made to feel welcome and when family leave after a visit they go home knowing that their loved one is being looked after by the excellent staff. Thank you.
Care staff are very helpful and supportive. They take time out to ensure that all my mother's needs are met. They are respectful and professional. Whenever I have a question or concern, they are readily available to answer and explain any processes. My mother loves the home and the staff. She has never had bad thing to say about the care given, which is very reassuring to us as most of us are too far to visit regularly.
Many thanks for bringing promptly to my attention yesterday that my sister was very poorly, upon my visit today. I was delighted to find her much improved which I feel is due to the kindness and attention she received from the staff, in particular, the nurse who fed her today, unfortunately, I had to leave before I was able to thank her personally. Many thanks to everyone
Everyone would like to love and respect their elders but when they see them lose their memory and intelligence, it can be difficult to keep to that. However, the staff at Blackdown, even with the most difficult of charges, do keep to that and act very caringly and with great respect. The staff are always professional and find some way to keep everyone harmonised with everyone else. In this sense, they are like mothers to their charges. Dealing with someone who has dementia can be very trying. So, you have to have a full heart and good training and understanding to look after such people with the sort of inspiring care and compassion that you see at Blackdown. I am so grateful to them and wish everybody who unfortunately gets into this debilitating situation, has the good fortune to enjoy the same beautiful love and support that the people here enjoy. It is wonderful what the nurses do and they deserve to be richly rewarded for their overflowing love and kindness.
My mother entered the home in August 2016. It was traumatic for her to go there, but we had run out of options due to factors beyond our control, we were greeted by friendly staff who gave us reassurance that mother would be ok. Mother did have a fall 1 night and there were some issues with a call bell at night early on in her stay, however, these issues were discussed with the owner and amicably resolved to the families satisfaction. We visited every day and found the care and affection given to all residents was truly sincere, mother was at the home for 8 months and we ended up considering the staff as friends not just carers. On her passing, several staff members attended her funeral and showed genuine grief at her passing and offered us as much comfort as possible. I would have no qualms about recommending this care facility to anyone unfortunate enough to require such care.
