View Full Details of Culm Valley Care CentreMy mother was transferred to Culm Valley from the RD&E Hospital on January 14th, 2025, for palliative care. She lived for a further month or so. During that time, I was extremely impressed by the high quality of support and level of nursing care. My mum was made very comfortable, and died peacefully on February 21st. The staff were always courteous and considerate to me and my wife, and mum was always treated with the highest of regard and respect. She was never made to do anything she didn't want to. As an aside, the food looked good - certainly a step or two up from the hospital. So, if you have a relative that is coming to end of life and it's important to you that they pass in comfort with care, support and dignity, I would recommend that you consider the Culm Valley Care Centre in Cullompton. Five star all round.
My mum has just celebrated her 100th birthday and loves to watch snooker. Because of her complex needs, she is now bedridden and was unable to watch the tv. One phone call to a staff member at Culm Valley and mums room was rearranged to facilitate mum being able to watch tv again. Many thanks.
Thank you to all the staff at Culm Valley Care Centre for the attention and care you provide my brother. I rest in the knowledge that he is being very well looked after. Staff are attentive to his needs, he is checked regularly and treated with respect together with some delightful senses of humour! There are always all sorts of interesting posters and leaflets of activities and lovely items for sale in the main entrance hall and always a cheerful welcome whenever I visit together with an atmosphere of calm and quiet efficiency. Thank you.
Mum was admitted here on a Pathway 2 discharge from the Hospital following a fall at home where she had pelvic and spinal fractures. She was unable to weight bear for the first 6 weeks (4 weeks at home 2 weeks in the hospital) and therefore stayed for a total of 10 weeks, during this time it was clearly evident that it was an extremely well-run home. The admin staff is really friendly and this makes for an excellent first impression. The nursing and care staff are extremely warm, caring, and totally person-centred. I was completely reassured that my Mum was safe and her needs were more than being met. Mum, a retired Nurse was very impressed with the care and communication from the nursing and care team. I am a senior Nurse in the NHS and give high praise indeed to Culm Valley Care Centre.
My friend's grandma stayed in the home and she has nothing but praise for the caring team, excellent food and social activities which she enjoyed. We have been blown away by the care and attention given by the wonderful, empathetic and highly skilled team. She feels safe and secure here, which has helped towards her well-being just as important as the medical interventions. We too are grateful to the team and management for the security that she is safe and also values the quality of communication the staff have with us. Thank you and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend the home to others. Everything is handled with respect, kindness and care.
I had a wonderful experience at Culm Valley Care Centre during my visit last week. The staff and management were incredibly friendly and welcoming. It's truly heart warming to see how accommodating they are to both residents and visitors, even though they're busy taking care of everyone. Their genuine care and dedication shine through, making it such a lovely place.
Culm Valley Care Centre is an incredible care home set in its own grounds next to St Andrew's church. What makes this such an amazing place for both residents and visitors is the truly fantastic staff - everyone is so friendly, professional, caring and welcoming. Both residents and their family and friends are made to feel very special here, and I really feel as if we are all part of a wonderful family. One other point to mention - the meals are all exceptional, thanks to two fantastic cooks!
Lovely and caring staff, they take great care of me. I would recommend this place to anyone. The food is nice, they are very, very good.
Found the whole experience from start to finish distressing. I would not recommend this facility to anyone who would wish for a loved one to be treated with care and dignity. Ambulance crew so disgusted they have put in their own safeguarding complaint. We are professionals who have over the years worked in care settings and with the elderly and vulnerable. The working practices of this home are poor verging on dangerous. We have raised complaints and involved adult social care who agreed that our requests, observations and concerns were all valid. In despite of this, no real improvements have been seen. Every visit normally resulted in some form of conflict, just to make sure our loved one was being treated with dignity and respect. The policies and procedures are a farce, that's if any exist at all - still waiting on copies of some they have quoted to account for poor care practices. Our loved one fell five times during his stay - he was on the commode for well over 45 minutes on one occasion.
Food is very poor and is in need of improvement. Quite often it's so poor my mum doesn't eat.
When the idea of respite care was suggested I was against it. My partner has had 5 weeks in the centre and has been happy and thriving throughout. His carers have been amazing and done everything for him that was a struggle for me. Had it not been for the fact that we needed a permanent placement closer to our home I would have been happy for him to have stayed.
My husband and I were back in the UK from Canada for a family visit at the end of May/June. We visited my mum several times at Culm Valley Care Centre (it was lovely to put faces to all the staff we had spoken with so many times). All the staff were very helpful and busy! My mum is being well looked after in spite of challenges with her mobility, mental state and struggles with being able to chew and swallow. Overall, I felt that Mum’s needs were being met.
I feel like my mum is well looked after and catered for. The staff are brilliant with Mum and I have peace of mind she is happy. I think the food choices are also good and Mum seems very happy with it.
Not being there in the home 24/7 I think it is reasonable to say it offers a satisfactory service. From what I hear, the food could be a little more exciting. Again, from what I hear, the foreign staff could have a better command of English in order to understand our humour which some residents like to share but is lost in translation and understanding. Other than that, as I said before, the home is satisfactory.
First of all, I must commend all staff for their support during the COVID pandemic, which was and has been a very difficult time. Given the procedures put in place by visitors attending the site, I was very surprised at the number of outbreaks experienced by the centre as this was a major threat to all residents. Visiting - I don't live locally and I was unable to visit during weekends, due to these being end-of-life visits only. I would like the option to visit at a weekend and hope that this can be accommodated in the future. Since my mother was admitted, I have had no communication that relates to her current care and support nor any discussion with the care centre team about her middle to long-term care needs. It would be very helpful if someone could take 5-10 minutes to update direct visiting family members when they arrive to see loved ones. There are times when my mum talks about the TV in her room being put on in the early hours of the morning, which she has reported!
