I had broken my elbow and couldn't visit Dad for seven weeks and couldn't drive, I visited him today for the first time. Dad was clean shaven and really happy to see me. He ate most of his lunch and I told him why I hadn't visited. He was calm and pleasant and very lucid. We filled in a form. He has been looked after really well in my absence and am so grateful to staff on the nurse line.
The staff are very good and very caring. Altogether made a big health problem not so bad.
My husband has been in Avon View for three and a half years. The last year in nursing. The care in nursing has been wonderful not only for my husband but for me too.
My husband was transferred from another care home after a stay of six weeks funded by the hospital. He was not happy at all, with poor care and cold food. He went to Avon View seven weeks ago and as he himself says it is as different as chalk and cheese. He is now happy as can be under his circumstances.
Throughout Mum’s residency on Bluebell/Poppy with the team at Avon View (June 2021-March 2023) Mum was treated with the utmost respect and dignity; friendship and kindness; humour and diligent attention to care and medical provision. The wonderful team helped her settle in, taking part in the many varied activities, and find her place within their community popping in and out of her room (especially in the difficult periods of covid restrictions) chatting and caring in equal measure. Avon View put mental and physical wellbeing in equal measure at the top of their care, taking time to sit and chat with Mum and supporting me was greatly valued. Twice weekly zoom calls with myself/brother and friends were priceless. Activities with her many friends were varied and enjoyable - including Alpaca’s, therapy dogs, cooking, gardening, crafts, Church services and games! Exceptional cleanliness of well equipped facilities and varied, enjoyable meals too! Avon View felt like home to Mum and to me.
We are a group of ladies that knit fiddle blankets, Pom Pom exercise balls and fiddle toys for dementia patients. We were invited to a coffee morning at the home, the atmosphere was wonderful, the residents were happy and laughing, and the staff were superbly caring, we were very impressed the leadership was great and showed that it permitted throughout the whole home.
My father was placed at Avon View this year by the local authority from his previous care home. The care he receives is excellent in every way. There are staffing issues (as there are in all care homes) but not once has his care been negatively impacted. The staff treat Dad with kindness, patience and compassion and promote his dignity. Dad is very frail and not keen to engage with others. The activities coordinator goes out of her way to spend one to one time with him. Dad is on the nursing floor and the nurses are excellent at keeping me informed of any significant issues. Hygiene is also excellent and this is very important to me and my dad. I would not hesitate to recommend Avon View to anyone looking for their loved one to be cared for so very well. I do not have to worry on a daily basis which is a huge relief to me.
My father has been in the dementia unit of Avon View for 2 months and during that time he has been treated with enormous kindness and respect at all times. He was not easy to settle as his journey had taken him from home to hospital to temporary care home then finally to Avon View, but the home was patient, worked closely with our family and he is now happy, settled and well cared for. I have witnessed a true example of person-centred care - led by exemplary management and wonderfully caring staff. The home is well thought out, clean, and the food excellent. The lovely lady I have seen carrying out activities could not have put more thought into her role - well done to you, on what I am sure is not a generous budget. Well done all of you and thank you very much.
On my visits to see my Aunt (I spent most afternoons over a three week period) I found she was being treated with care, dignity and respect. The help I received and still do, via phone, is outstanding. I would have to say, on my overall visits, I flew back to Australia knowing that my Aunty is in good hands. Excellent care all-round.
