Room is clean and tidy with a pleasant view. The staff were welcoming and friendly. Twenty patients were all happy in the lounge and the staff were available at all times. Beautiful surroundings and the garden is available to enjoy. A happy and lovely home.
Some staff were helpful and caring. There was little understanding of the ability and needs of residents who had full capacity and they failed to differentiate between lack of capacity and dementia. Food needs and appropriateness is lacking. Residents with capacity but general healthcare needs are left for long periods of time.
The staff at Grove Lodge looked after my father very well indeed and found them friendly and accommodating, considering his health and mental capacity at the time. He was kept clean, tidy, and well-nourished with his medication delivered when required. The home is sufficiently away from the main road, so no noise was heard in his bedroom at quiet periods, with a good size and a nice view. I found the home was easily accessible with convenient parking, but care had to be taken when returning onto the busy main road with fast-moving traffic. Maybe something for consideration - wished that one was kept better informed via emails of activities or policy on a regular basis instead of the need to make calls to find out information. Chiefly because of COVID 19 when visits were banned and it was difficult to keep in touch. Moreover, my father spent two years in the home before he passed away, so would like to thank the manager and staff at Grove Lodge for the care and attention he received.
Excellent staff and care. Homely. Always updated about Dad, he is happy and very well cared for. Confident as a new manager and thorough in everything.
When I visit Mum in the home, the staff always make you feel very welcome. Mum is always clean and well cared for. I don't have to worry about her eating meals anymore because I know all her needs will be met.
Mum has lived at Grove Lodge since 2014. She has dementia and complex health conditions, all of which are managed very well on a daily basis. I am always kept informed of any changes in her condition. I always find the home to be a happy and friendly place, we are always made to feel very welcome by all the staff. The one thing Mum still really enjoys is her food and this is nutritious and freshly cooked and she always eats everything. She has just celebrated her 90th birthday and everyone made it a special, memorable day for her and all her family. Her room was decorated and they made her a lovely birthday cake. I have peace of mind knowing that she lovingly cared for and I now have quality time with her when I visit. I am so glad that I chose Grove Lodge.
My husband has been a resident at Grove Lodge for 2 years, he has many friends to talk to. The staff are very kind and caring and treat him with dignity, The food has improved with the new chief. My husband is safe and his room is always clean and tidy. He joins in the activities and goes outside when he is up to it. It would be nice for the home to have new armchairs in the lounge soon. but he is looked after very well.
Mum is extremely well looked after. Staff are wonderful, very friendly and so caring. Food is healthy and plentiful, ALWAYS gets eaten! Mum was 90 this week and such a special effort was made by the staff, room decorated, cake made, Mum put in best clothes. Perfect day! Nothing is ever too much trouble and we are kept informed and welcome ANYTIME.
On reading the CQC report of 2014 I wondered why I was thinking of putting my Father-in-law in here. Then I read the 2016 CQC report and was impressed by the changes they’ve made and how they really turned this place around. Making huge inroads and smashing targets set, you can see this place is “on its way up”. What they’ve achieved in the last 4 years since that damning report is amazing. Not a 4* hotel type care home or the pristine squeaky floored places you are most likely to see today. Impressive but can lack that feeling of being a 'home'. Don’t be put off by the aged 1928 facade or the slightly overgrown drive up to the front door. Once inside you realise people who live here are receiving quality care not quantity of care. There are plenty of staff at hand if needed, whose compassion and care is reflected not only in the faces of the residents but by the display of the art and craft activities and photo gallery of the residents enjoying activities in their beautiful garden. Recommended!
