View Full Details of The Mellowes Care HomeIt was my mom's birthday (5 October). We asked if they could put some tea and coffee in the little side room by Mom's room. Nothing was too much trouble, we had privacy and we bought cake which we left for the staff to have a piece. They asked if we needed anything else. They were very helpful to us and to our mom. Thank you all.
The carers are incredibly kind and patient. They take the time to really learn what each resident needs in order to feel at home and truly nurtured. Residents are given a huge range of opportunities to fulfil their interests and hobbies. We have experienced other care settings and this team really are in a league of their own. We are truly thankful to all at The Mellowes.
My late wife was a nursing care resident at The Mellowes from January 2023 until she passed away in July 2024. At the time she was admitted following hospital discharge, she was quite poorly and weak and not expected to live very long. She was totally immobile and incontinent having been increasingly ill for a number of years, From the time she arrived until the time of her passing she was afforded efficient and loving care and attention at all times by all grades of staff. In liaison with local NHS healthcare staff, my wife received treatment making her ever more comfortable and feeling welcome and at home in The Mellowes. I know she enjoyed all the care she was given and nothing was too much trouble. The staff and management at The Mellowes also welcomed my family, friends and me whenever we visited or made enquiries about my wife. I can only thank them for everything they did for her over the one-and-a-half years she was in their care. Thank you so much!
My experience of The Mellowes Care Home was very good. Care for my father was very good, staff helpful, friendly, kind and considerate. My mother who has dementia visited my father every day. She either sat in his room with him or joined in with any activities and the staff were considerate in including her. Food was lovely, room kept clean and my father's personal hygiene was well taken care of. Office and reception staff were friendly and helpful at all times. My parents thoroughly enjoyed the pub night with singers for entertainment.
The staff and carers were all very kind to my dad and always kept him clean and tidy. Both my sister and I knew he was always being cared for. My only negative is - I received the questionnaire with a letter, and on the letter they used a lady's and not my dad's! That is actually awful when you are grieving, no attention to detail.
Josie feels bad about having things pinched from room 45. You just don't expect this to happen.
The care of my friend was very good. They were very kind to him. He was at the Mellowes for 14 years. The staff were very kind to him. He was well looked after.
My mother was a resident at The Mellowes for 18 months until her death in December 2023. Over that time she did have a few complaints, but predominantly about minor things, and the management listened to her feedback. Ultimately though, she received the most fantastic care, particularly in her last few weeks. My family have nothing but thanks for The Mellowes.
My mother went to The Mellowes in August 2022 and was given the care, love and compassion that one would have hoped for up until the time of her demise in January 2024. She was a very independent person but was held in high regard by most of the staff, many of whom I know still miss her. I greatly miss her too but fully appreciate all that was done for her and how welcoming everyone was to me on my visits to see her. Thank you.
My mother-in-law has been at The Mellowes for a few months now, and it is lovely to see her looking so well. The staff have been very helpful. The activities seem to go down well, and she is enjoying the food.
Sadly my 83 year old sister has died. She had spent over four very happy years at The Mellowes. We found the home's staff and management faultless. We can thoroughly recommend the home as an ideal place for a loved one.
Mum is currently in The Mellow for respite care. She has settled in quickly and is very happy Mum is a very private person so does not use the facilities or join in the activities although there is always something going on and a new programme is produced each week. Her room is nice with a wall-mounted TV and plenty of furniture overlooking the grounds. The food is good but what makes this place a home are the staff. I can't fault them. Nothing is too much trouble and I know that if Mum decides to stay here she will be happy and very well looked after.
Good attitude in the home from the staff. There is a nice atmosphere among the residents and good food. Excellent provision of games/activities for residents which helps overall.
The staff at this care home do try to be cheerful and aim to provide good care of all the residents. The food is excellent and varied, though the tea and coffee are nearly always cold. The mattress was diabolical! The sheets wouldn't stay in place and were only changed twice in three weeks. Despite these small points, overall, I felt well cared for and would recommend it to others.
My mother has received excellent care and attention, struggling with diabetes and delirium after a disastrous stay at hospital at the age of 100.
We chose the Mellows because it is a Bupa care home with good reviews and was close to our home in Dorset. My mum had become too frail to be living alone in her flat in Hampshire. Right from my first contact with one staff member, in particular, the whole experience was positive, with the staff being so helpful and cheerful. Mum had been wanting to keep her independence, but by the time we moved her, she realized it was time. She loved the staff and her room. Unfortunately, her health declined such that she was bedridden after a short while, but the staff were magnificent and managed her care professionally, always phoning us to keep us informed. She only had a month at the home before she passed away, but we know her passing was managed without pain and the nurses were with her in her final hours. We will always be grateful to the staff for the care Mum received.
I live a long way from my Mum and it is reassuring to know they look after her well. She is always presentable and seems to have a good relationship with staff. I facetime my mum weekly, and staff always accommodate this, no matter how busy they are. When I do visit, I am made to feel welcome and the staff are friendly. They always ring me when my mum is unwell and keep me updated.
My Mum has been a resident of The Mellowes for the last few years. During that time she has been treated with respect, dignity and patience. Also, the nursing staff have kept me well informed of any changes in her medical condition.
My husband has been looked after well.
My dad is very happy at The Mellowes, and he is being looked after very well. I appreciate that staffing levels have been difficult, but I feel that you are all doing the best you can in the circumstances. Well done!
