View Full Details of Whittington House Nursing HomeWhittington House is amazing and I can't recommend enough! They have an holistic and person-centred approach towards their residents and I've noticed a real change in my mother's physical and mental health since arriving at Whittington. We have had hiccups or teething problems if you will, however, the staff are all willing to listen and work with us as a family to resolve any issues. The manager is really lovely and very approachable, she genuinely listens to your concerns and quite clearly does her job with a passion. The nurses and care staff work in a very high standard and the food is very nutritional as my mother is finally putting on weight. The admin team and reception are only too happy to help with anything that might arise. I work in a nursing home myself and I genuinely can't recommend this nursing home enough. Thank you Whittington House and thank you to each and every person who works in the home.
All residents' water should be changed daily, however, this isn't the case as on most occasions when we visit it is at least one or two days old on the sticker - or the sticker has been removed. We have complained on numerous occasions but unfortunately, the situation isn't resolved.
I am constantly and consistently impressed with the offer at Whittington House. My relative has been here for about a year now and I wasn't sure how well they would settle having been incredibly independent before becoming resident. I didn't need to worry. Everything from the transition in to accommodating personal items, including some furniture and a lovely room that was entirely appropriate to the current and changing needs. Accommodating of all visitors, made to feel welcome in person or if contacting over the phone. I feel that concerns or comments are taken very seriously and the care by the named nurse for my relative is very comforting. The amount and variety of activities on offer is incredible and I feel that residents are actively encouraged and supported to engage.
My wife has been living in Whittington House for 10 months as she suffers from advanced dementia and now needs nursing care. We were shown around the whole building which is a modern purpose built building on 4 floors and were offered a choice of rooms. We have never regretted choosing this nursing home. All the staff are very friendly and welcoming. The facilities are excellent and the residents are well looked after. They all have en-suite rooms and can eat in their rooms if they want. There are organised activities every day and a hairdresser and a chiropodist visit on a regular basis. My wife settled in very quickly and I can visit whenever I like as can our children and grandchildren.
The environment at Whittington House is kind and welcoming. Most staff are similarly well-disposed though some seem occasionally more interested in their phones or TV than anything else but they are certainly gentle and caring where my wife is concerned. I appreciate that cleanliness is an endless chore, it's easily done. I am unimpressed by emails to management being unanswered for a week or so. Food is abundant and of a high standard.
My mum decided she could no longer look after herself at home, ordering shopping and cooking/preparing meals had started to overwhelm her. We looked at a number of homes within the area, closer to her family. Whittington House is purpose-built, with good-sized rooms, each having its own individual character and view. Each floor, there are 4, has its own lounge and restaurant area, although residents if they are able, can use any floor. There is a cinema room, and several different lounges, with activities each day for the residents to participate in. It did take Mum a while to settle in, just getting used to new surroundings having been in her own flat for over 15 years. 6 months in Whittington House she is in her words 'very happy' and is delighted someone else now does the shopping and cooking. She is able to have a varied menu each day and can choose from 3 options for each meal. I now have my mum-daughter relationship back where I can visit her for coffee and a meal.
Dad was at Whittington House for the last two years of his life and received very good care. The home is well-managed and has a great team of conscientious, caring staff who make it a happy place to be. Dad had Alzheimer’s and was at constant risk of falling and so needed one-to-one care during the daycare to keep him safe. He had some excellent carers who went above and beyond to look after Dad’s health and wellbeing, taking a genuine interest in him and making a real effort to entertain him with things that he enjoyed. He was always treated with dignity and respect and we could relax knowing that he was in good hands. The building is a pleasant, clean and fresh environment. It has light and spacious rooms with big windows overlooking the woods, and the simple layout and wide corridors are easy for an older person to navigate. Big thanks to the Whittington team for everything.
Mum has been a resident for 6 months. The staff have been very kind and caring. There has been one incident during that period when the carer upset Mum. The environment is very nice, purpose-built, and modern. There are lots of activities (if residents wish to join in). The food has been variable, although this is a matter of personal taste. Alternatives are available on request. On a daily basis, communication is satisfactory but it is sometimes difficult to obtain specific information.
We are very well cared for. All of the staff work very hard to see that all our needs are met. The home is very well-cleaned daily. There are some very nice sheltered gardens which are ideal for residents to sit out in the summer. Food is adequate, though variety is limited.
My mother was in Whittington House for seven years. Her care was fantastic. Excellent food. Always gently encouraged to eat when she didn’t feel well. The home is always clean and well-kept. I was always contacted if there was a problem or the staff were worried about Mum. I cannot fault Whittington House.
My mother had become in need of 24-hour care and therefore we had to search for a suitable care home. Having researched and visited several in a variety of counties we decided on her remaining in her home town and selected Whittington as our favourite. The whole experience from the initial call to arrange viewing and subsequently the prompt availability of a room for initial respite followed by the acceptance as a permanent resident was excellent. I can fully recommend the facility and staff.
First of all, I must comment on the outstanding support and care that all at Whittington House provided for my late mum. They helped and supported us through this very difficult and sad time. Taking care of Dad and helping him adjust to Mum's passing and coming to terms with Mum no longer being there. I am pleased to say that Mum and Dad, spent Mum's final few months together both being well looked after with all of their needs taken care of. Dad came to Whittington House as respite care, but during this time, and being assessed, it became apparent he would not cope back at home. It was a big adjustment for him but Whittington House Staff once again helped him adjust, with care and attention to his needs. Dad now joins in the activities and can still do his art and gardening. I cannot always be there, but I have no worries as I know Dad is being well looked after. The staff always keep me informed and are straight on the phone if Dad's not well. Lastly, I look forward to going.
My mother has been a resident at Whittington House Nursing Home for 3 1/2 years. Recently she needed to be admitted to hospital for an emergency. The staff identified this and informed me immediately. They packed a bag for Mum with everything she needed for her stay to be comfortable and this reflected their knowledge of what Mum liked. This meant I could meet Mum at the hospital and stay with her. Fortunately, her stay was only 3 days but during this time Mum was keen to get back to Whittington House and the activities. This reflects Mum's feelings that Whittington House is her home. This is a credit to the staff who look after her so well and organise all the activities. We are very grateful for the care Mum receives.
We have been extremely happy with the care of our father/father-in-law. He is always clean and tidy, all the carers and other staff members know him and always make small talk with him. This is so important as obviously, they are often on their own for periods of time. We as a family are always contacted if he’s not well or has a fall etc. We receive a weekly activity sheet of everything that is on offer for the residents. The building is well-maintained and very clean. All staff are extremely friendly to us all in the family. Personally, I highly recommend it
Whittington House is a truly wonderful place, from the initial contact to moving my nan in, all the staff at Whittington couldn’t have been more compassionate, caring, professional and fun! I cannot fault the care, hygiene or food at Whittington, but in particular the amount of effort and thought that goes into activities for residents is amazing, there is always something to do and they mark every single occasion. Most people lose their independence when going into care but my Nan has gained it, her quality of life has improved remarkably and I will always thank everyone at Whittington for making that happen and for taking such good care of her.
My mother has been a resident at Whittington House Nursing Home for nearly two years. Choosing a suitable care home for a loved one is always going to be a difficult decision. Whittington House is the second one she's been in so I have experience with how standards vary. I'm happy to say Whittington House is far better in every respect and standards are improving continually, especially since the new manager has taken on the management role. During normal working hours, the phone is answered quickly by a friendly receptionist. Residents have the opportunity to give feedback at regular meetings, one of the outcomes being better menus. The corridors and shared areas are clean and don't have that smell often associated with care homes. The activities at Whittington House are great, those responsible ensure there are lots of varied activities to keep residents stimulated. My mum's cognitive abilities have certainly improved largely thanks to this as well as the great care from all staff leaving me confident that she is in the best possible place.
My review relates to Whittington House Jan 2022- Aug 2022. Having previous experience of a kind, caring and supportive home, Whittington House is none of these things. From the time my sister moved in, the home were unable to provide for all her basic care needs. Equipment missing, missing birthday cake, rude and abrupt staff, dirty rooms, poor communication throughout the whole of Caring Homes organisation. I have particular concerns around dignity and respect. The home dressed my sister in night clothes with holes. This was the final memory I have of my sister, lying in nightclothes with holes, that were not even hers despite having new nightclothes in her drawer. For me, this is a lasting memory which causes unnecessary trauma and suffering as well as them letting my sister down. There have also been many many unresolved concerns which, despite following a formal complaint process Caring Homes has still failed to provide an adequate reply let alone an apology. Please avoid.
Having Parkinson's, my wife's condition and attitude can be extremely variable and Whittington House Nursing Home rose to the occasion. They coped admirably. Thank you very much. As and when she requires full-time care we shall be looking to Whittington House.
Overall, I've been very happy with my stay. However, the food tends to be cold when getting it. The room has only been hovered twice, and that was when I requested it. Being over 6ft tall, I find the best the most uncomfortable I have ever had.
We have had a mixed experience of care. Generally, the standard has been okay but there have been some chaotic times. I believe that the staff do a really good job, given the information and training they have. One area which requires attention is keeping track of possessions and clothing which has often attracted complications. This is especially the case with laundry. I think Covid has made a hugely detrimental effect on care provision in many ways.
