View Full Details of Dunkirk Memorial HouseI recently visited Dunkirk Memorial House Care Centre, for the service of a close friend who had passed away, the staff were very caring and those I spoke with had a great sense of pride in the difficult, I would imagine, job that they do. The Centre looks amazing and the residents I met had big smiles. Thank you to all for the care and compassion you give.
I can't praise Dunkirk House enough. My mum was there for nearly three years, and the care she received was outstanding from all staff. All staff were helpful, friendly and most importantly skilled in the work that they carried out. Thank you
My mother stayed at Dunkirk House, in the dementia wing (Dunkirk Mews), for over a year, until she sadly passed away recently. From the moment my sister and myself walked in the main building, to inspect the home on behalf of my mother before her stay, we were so impressed with everything. It is a beautiful building, in a beautiful location, with beautiful grounds. The staff in the dementia wing do a difficult job incredibly well. The residents are really well attended to, the food/catering is amazing, and they have many activities throughout the week to keep them entertained. My mother was really well cared for and attended to around the time of her passing. Only one word of caution, the residents are looked after so well that many of them live to be in their nineties, and at the time of writing I believe some are around the age of 100! If you are lucky enough to have the option of having a relative stay here then look no further. I cannot speak too highly of Dunkirk House.
From the start, we were impressed by, and delighted with the level of respect shown to our dad, as well as all the care and consideration afforded him by all the staff. Every effort was made to make him feel at home and to ensure that his needs and wants were met. They also looked after us as family members. He could not have been better cared for; you could not fault their professionalism and the kindness was exceptional.
My 97-year-old father became a resident a little over a month ago having lived with my wife and I for eighteen months after my mother passed away. He was very impressed when he came to look a the home a couple of weeks previously, but we were a little unsure of how he would adapt. We needn't have worried because it became obvious after the first couple of weeks that once had got over the problem of finding his way around the home he settled very well. He is really happy with the level of attention and support given by all members of staff, and his room is really good having brought quite a lot of his own furniture and pictures. He is impressed with the meals both with menu choices, and the quality of the food, and is slowly making the acquaintance of some of the other residents. I feel quite relieved that this latest change in his life has been achieved without any drama or concerns and would like to thank all the staff for their support during this transition
I found all the staff at Dunkirk Memorial House amazingly helpful. They were kind and considerate to my friend and myself as a visitor. They went over and above to bring and sort out my friend's computer issues. Thank you.
I am very happy here and having animals around is a real bonus for me, it is a happy place. My only problem is that it is difficult to see a doctor if required, as it is outside. However, that is not the fault of the home.
Staff are very caring, facilities are good. My mum is very happy here. I am always kept informed of any changes of medication or if they have any concerns for Mum's welfare.
My mother spent the last days of her life at Dunkirk House, having only had a short time to organise it. There is a longer but all good story of how the staff were so helpful and wonderful, but my all too short summary would be that this is a family home of love, understanding and mutual connection. It was a joy to both my mother and myself that she was able to have had the final privilege of being in a place that she could so quickly call home. When she finally left, covered in a British charity cover, the staff 'turned out' to see her off. My thank you to them was pretty blubbing and sniffly, but also very heartfelt. I think I set a few of them off as well. It made her departure so much more bearable. Thank you.
I have been a resident at Dunkirk Memorial House since June 2021, during my time in this residence I have been treated with niceness and respect by all the staff and most of my fellow residents. As I am a loner by nature I'm able to please myself to a large degree what I choose to do i.e. Walk, Cycle on an indoor bike, read, and do crosswords at my leisure. So it suits me very well. One of your questions was is it value for money I can't possibly answer this as I've stayed in no other residence than here, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else because the grounds are spectacular and I love to walk. I would not hesitate to recommend this home to my friends. The staff and management are always welcoming and encourage me and other residents to come to them with any concerns no matter how small it might be. Since I have been here I have managed to get the title of champion motor world cyclist of the year but not only for this country but for worldwide. I'm very happy here.
I stayed at Dunkirk as a resident and I was made to feel very welcome by staff and other residents. The food was fantastic and I thoroughly enjoyed the mealtimes. The rooms were clean and tidy.
I can't believe how lucky my parents are to be in Dunkirk House. We as a family are so grateful that our parents are getting such good quality care at this stage in their lives, both in their 90's. The staff are very professional and caring. The food is of the highest quality and very good choices. The chef and catering staff are friendly and very attentive towards the individual needs. Right from the minute I walked into Dunkirk House, the warm welcome I received from the receptionist and all the staff, is like no other care home I have visited. Thank you all.
I have only one comment from an otherwise excellent impression of the home. I have on two occasions in the last three weeks stayed at the home for lunch with my wife and each time we had to wait some 45 minutes before being served. I do not know if this is the norm, but do feel that the lunchtime situation should be checked.
My husband was lucky enough to be able to move into Dunkirk Memorial House at the end of February. From initial contact through to moving in and the month he has so far spent at Dunkirk Memorial House the experience has been tremendous. The improvement in him has been wonderful. The staff are quite frankly fabulous- caring, friendly and so good with looking after the residents. The restaurant and food are lovely. The facilities are incredible and whilst I miss him terribly I am so glad he is where he is. Highly, highly recommended.
I cannot speak highly enough about this care home. My father loves it. At 96 his mind is very active but his body is weak. Dunkirk gives him the mental stimulation he needs whilst at the same time caring for his physical needs. He loves the carers and nurses. After 5 months at Dunkirk, he looks 10 years younger. Wish I could go in for a spell!
My dad is resident in the dementia wing at Dunkirk Memorial House, I have visited him many times and seen the great care and compassion and respect given to my dad by all the care staff. It is so nice to say that he is definitely in a wonderful residential setting and gives my family and me so much reassurance to know that we could not have found a better place to help my dad cope with his awful condition. The wing is very well managed and staffing levels are excellent, and they all provide the care and compassion you would hope to see if it was your family member.
My grandmother was a resident for many years at Dunkirk Memorial House, as was my grandad; the best and most comforting thing was that both were able to move to Dunkirk Memorial House together when my grandad became unwell, and obviously, my grandmother chose to stay once he passed which is testament to the fantastic level of care and support provided by all the staff. I never once worried or doubted that they were in the right place; I cannot fault any part of Dunkirk Memorial House. The staff are what makes the place. All of them are exceptional. Caring, empathetic and who go above and beyond. Such was the bond between my grandmother and the staff that we had quite a few attend her funeral. That alone meant the world to my family. If you have any doubts about Dunkirk Memorial House, put them to one side. You or your loved one will be well taken care of. I cannot thank Dunkirk Memorial House for all they did for my grandmother and grandfather during their time there.
The residential staff are absolutely amazing and so supportive and caring to the individual needs of my mother. They are friendly, reassuring and work with residents and the family ensuring safety, dignity and the best possible experience. Thank you so much for all you do. The well-being team and volunteers always have a smile and organise different activities, celebrations and outings for the residents, facilitating new resident friendships. Management and admin staff always so supportive and helpful, with a proactive listening ear, quick responses and regular updates/communication. Again, very reassuring. Reception and dining room serving staff responsive to individual requirements, helpful and friendly. A big thank you to you all.
When the time came that mum chose to go into a care home, there was no hesitation in choosing Dunkirk. A short stay previously with dad, had given some idea of the attention to resident's requirements that would be given, but when mum moved in, from day 1, the attention and loving care mum received was over and above expectations. Of course, there are always days when something does not go right, but to know mum was going to get all the care she needed and was going to be safe and comfortable in her surroundings gave us peace of mind as well, which in its turn was important to mum. We were always welcomed and looked forward to visiting and staying with mum, (bearing in mind covid) to hear the latest news, gossip and interactions with all the staff, which were many and mum felt loved and part of a new family in her new home. When the time came for mum to need extra care at the end of her life, there was never a moment we felt mum was alone, the love from all the staff was beyond amazing.
Such a warm and welcoming environment from the moment you come through the front door. Nothing is too much trouble and the staff are friendly and approachable. The communication during the recent flu and covid outbreak was excellent and then the staff managed to still organise and present an incredible Christmas with a delicious menu, individual well-thought-through presents and so many activities to enjoy. Thank you one and all.
