View Full Details of Barchester West Abbey Care HomeMy husband has been a resident at West Abbey for twelve months now. He settled in better than we could ever have hoped, and that is largely due to the wonderful care he is receiving. I know that if there were any problems the home would contact me straight away, although this hasn't been necessary as my husband is so happy and content. I cannot fault the care at West Abbey and the friendly, compassionate atmosphere; you are always greeted with a big smile from all the staff. The care home is immaculately clean and all the residents look well cared for. There is also a wide range of activities laid on for the residents, and the food looks delicious. I would not hesitate to recommend this care home, and we are grateful for the dedication and hard work of all the staff.
We are delighted to have found such an amazing care home for our mother. From the moment she arrived nearly 18 months ago she has always been treated with endless kindness and respect by all the staff, regardless of role or seniority. The care home itself provides everything she needs from a light airy home looking onto a beautiful internal garden, with plenty of activities that she is encouraged to participate in with much enthusiasm from the staff. The staff themselves are amazing, often going out of their way to cheer her along when she is struggling with her alzheimers. I am very happy we have found West Abbey Care Home and would like to say a huge thank you to all the staff for taking such good care of our mum.
I visited many Nursing Homes but West Abbey stood out. Mum has settled in well, thanks to all the wonderful staff. It has not been an easy journey for Mum as she suffers from advancing Alzheimer's. The Home is clean and well maintained both inside, and in the grounds, outside. The gardens are lovely to wander around in. Staff on the Lyde Unit are brilliant where there is such a lovely atmosphere. There is plenty of space to wander around. You feel part of a bigger family. Staff are polite and very welcoming and quick to resolve any problems or concerns. We love the café area where we can escape the world and have a coffee and one of the slices of the chef's cake of the day!! There are daily activities which include day trips, games, knit and natter, communion and of course, scrabble! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend West Abbey. All staff both medical and non-medical are amazing. Thank you so much. It means the world to me to know that Mum is safe, well cared for and loved.
My first experience is very good. Everybody is very helpful.
Visited my nan. Home was always clean and lovely.
My Mother spent her last six months at West Abbey. From walking in the first day until the last we as a family felt very welcome. Always a smile from the staff and very happy residents. Mum had full nursing care which was amazing. The staff were so kind and caring not only to Mum but to us as well. She very sadly passed away there. Couldn't wish for better treatment. A huge thanks to all the staff. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend West Abbey.
I was looking for a residential home that could provide a range of care and nursing services. I attended an open day at Barchester West Abbey Care Home, Yeovil. I was given a guided tour of the facilities that are, to say the least, impressive. The whole place is clean with well-maintained, pleasant decor, nothing tired-looking. Individual rooms are of a reasonable size with en-suite WC, comfortable beds, furnishings and TV. The communal areas and dining rooms are spacious and well laid out with comfortable furnishings. Residents are encouraged to use these areas and the facilities they provide. The menus for the dining rooms offer superb choices. The garden areas are well-kept, very colourful and attractive. All the staff that I met were, without exception, affable, polite and knowledgeable about their roles and were able to answer my questions about care and accommodation. More importantly, from the reaction of the existing residents, staff were obviously well-liked, kind and caring and residents seemed happy.
Mum was very well looked after. Lovely rooms with good views of the garden. Food and facilities excellent. Mum could join in with the various activities when she felt like it but wasn't pressured to do so. There was good feedback on how she was coping with her fortnight respite care and she also made a couple of friends. I also found the whole experience very beneficial. Staff were all very professional and caring.
Can't thank everyone enough for taking care of two of my family/relatives they have settled in really well as you have made it feel like home for them both, it's lovely to see them both so very happy when we visit.
During 12 weeks of respite, we have come to know West Abbet and its wonderful staff. It is the team that makes the home. I cannot praise the home highly enough. My brother is moving in permanently in August, and we are so pleased about his future. I would happily go there myself, but you don't do a BOGOF! Thank you all.
Cannot fault any aspect of this care home.
I came to visit my relative and was shouted at by one of your male nurses in a very unprofessional manner. He said have you seen your relative to which I replied yes, he replied drink your tea, leave it at that and go. He then returned to the visitors in seconds and shouted "I will give you 30 seconds", and then 30 seconds for a patient who was end of life. Disgusting and very unprofessional.
I cannot recommend this care home enough. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly by the staff who showed genuine care and compassion for the residents. The facilities are brilliant, clean and beautifully maintained. The residents are all well taken care of and seem genuinely happy and content. The activities and programs offered are diverse and engaging, keeping everyone active and stimulated. The meals are delicious and nutritious and there are always options available for any dietary needs. Overall, this care home goes above and beyond in every aspect, providing a safe and nurturing environment for its residents. Five stars all the way!
Our daughter has been a resident at Barchester West Abbey Care Home for twenty-five years. During that time, we have been more than happy with every aspect of the home. The staff (from cleaners, carers, nurses - everyone!) are friendly, caring and welcoming and make us feel like we are family. A wonderful home.
Wow, where do I start? Recently had a relative stay on a short stay and from the moment I made contact with the team I felt at ease and knew I would be confident in the care that my mother needed. The management team were always available to answer any questions I had and added great reassurance throughout our stay. The manager and her team were absolutely wonderful as were all the staff really. From the kitchen staff to the care team everyone was friendly, smiley and happy to assist and made a huge impact on our family during our stay. A team who are an absolute credit to the care industry. Well done West Abbey, Mum will be back!
The staff were so kind the minute my nan came through the doors of West Abbey and throughout her whole stay, we visited her often while my mum was away on holiday and she was always well looked after. Nan stayed for respite and we will definitely be back. Thank you to all the staff.
A well run home, good staff. Food good with a choice. Very helpful and considerate. Might get a care home nearer as it is too far to me to drive full, have to rely on lifts.
I was worried about bringing in my husband, who has vascular dementia, to a home for the first time but my mind was soon put to rest when I watched him a few days later. Happily engaging with other staff members and residents and joining in the activity. There is such a wonderful, warm atmosphere there. I would have no hesitation in using this home again.
Mum was admitted at short notice, so had no time to get used to the idea of moving into a care home. She was warmly welcomed on arrival nine weeks ago and has settled in really well. The staff are friendly, caring professionals and she is treated with respect at all times. Despite having dementia Mum has become more confident in herself and is engaging in a full range of activities. She has made friends and is much more like her old self. Smiling all the time. Thank you for making this difficult transition from home to care home, a smooth and stress-free process for both of us.
When I entered Barchester West Abbey Care Home for the first time I immediately had a good feeling about it. The home was spacious, clean and well presented. All the staff (including non-medical staff) were friendly and professional. My brother was a difficult resident to care for, partly because he had complex needs (some of which had arisen because of inadequate care in a previous home and from NHS hospitals in a different area, not connected with Barchester or Yeovil). He eventually needed palliative care. A huge thank you to West Abbey for admitting my brother who was in an appalling condition. During his final 2 months, West Abbey provided high quality care and kindness and very good food. We were also impressed by the range of weekly activities for those who chose to participate. We are also grateful to West Abbey for the way they maintained close communication with us, his family, and for the sensitivity they demonstrated in managing the whole experience.
