View Full Details of Barchester Ottley House Care HomeWe've been really happy with the care our mother has received at Barchester Ottley House Care Home. The staff are fantastic! All deserve praise (and a pay rise!) Thank you. Only issue is with a potential urine infection Mum has which seems to be taking a long time to diagnose - GP issue.
I have absolutely no regrets about handing my mother's care to the dementia care unit at Barchester Ottley House Care Home, Shrewsbury. Both the nursing staff and the care assistants were friendly, approachable and conscientious in the way they looked after my mother. As her condition deteriorated, they altered their approach and kept the family aware as to why they were making these changes. At all times, the staff did their utmost to make her last days as comfortable as possible. I could not ask for more.
Mum lived at Barchester Ottley House Care Home for over three years and I visited her nearly every day. Mum had been fiercely independent but due to the level of care and compassion shown to her, she came to view Ottley as her home and often described herself as "happy", which is amazing bearing in mind her health was failing. I came to know the nurses and carers and watched them working collaboratively and with good grace and this created a positive atmosphere in the home. The excellent nurses fought for Mum for investigations, pain relief and review because the GPs were sometimes difficult to pin down. Some of them phoned me after their shift to let me know that Mum had settled when I had been worried. If I ever thought there was an issue (and there were very few) the nurses would listen to me and sort it. The respectful attitude shown by the carers preserved her dignity and individualism and there was much humour. They would chat and laugh with her and comfort her when needed.
My daughter and I looked at many homes and whilst Barchester Ottley House Care Home is a 2-hour drive - or 2.5 train journey for me - we are very confident that we made the right decision.
Mum settled in very well to life in Barchester Ottley House Care Home. With the care of staff, she has regained some of the weight lost prior to moving into residential care. The staff have been extremely kind and helpful towards my mother, for which I am very grateful.
Everybody is helpful and look after my friend with kindness. Keep him clean and out of pain. Would recommend to everyone.
I have been very impressed with Barchester Ottley House Care Home. The facilities are excellent, clean and in good repair. The staff are professional, friendly and approachable and always willing to listen to and answer any concerns. My mother has been very happy here and loves the staff and her room. I would recommend Ottley to anyone.
My auntie was cared for with compassion and kindness throughout her time at the home by each and every member of staff. I have no doubt the level of care given made a difference to her comfort and well-being and also to her longevity. As a family, we will always be grateful to the whole team who afforded her dignity at all times. She always told us how lovely all the staff were and how comfortable she was.
The difference in my mother has been wonderful since she moved into Barchester Ottley House Care Home. She has returned to her old self, happy, chatty and interested in living again. Mum celebrated her 93rd birthday in august and the staff made it a special day for her, her room was decorated, a delicious cake made and staff were fantastic. We, as a family, recommend Ottley House, the staff are professional, kind and work as a team to care for the residents. Thank you.
My Father has been in Ottley House since April 2024 and following the initial visits, I was very pleased to have found such a lovely care home for him. Sadly, during the 3 months of him being here, I have noticed a big change in staff, with what I feel to be under-staffing at times. My big upset is seeing what was a most beautiful garden area being totally neglected, only two years ago this used to be well looked after and a joy to visit and sit out and walk around. Please Barchester, employ a gardener!
Went to see Mum after we had been on holiday - so pleased to see her looking so good and happy. Spent a lovely morning with her in the big lounge, so light and airy, she watched people coming and going, she has dementia. The carers all spoke to her in passing, they knew her name, impressed. Could wish for better care or carers for her. Thank you all.
Have parents here and was concerned about them moving in. I was surprised at how kind and supportive the staff are, from the nurses, carers, cleaners, kitchen and office staff. The activities are good and needed particularly by my father who is always busy, the more the better. The food is of a good standard and choice is good. A bin in the room would be an idea. For my father, in memory lane, try to maintain his independence as long as possible, i.e. shave, trim beard etc. Not living close, I would like a video call set up so I can communicate better. Dad no longer has his phone with him in memory lane.
Our mother's care home is very good indeed. We have trusted them to look after our frail and vulnerable mum since the death of our father, her husband, last year. They have risen to the challenge. Mum is very well cared for and is happy. The staff are very friendly and considerate. An excellent establishment. Thank you.
Mum is very well looked after, she has her moments and does complain to me occasionally however she does understand her situation for a short time when explaining. The staff all interact with her and are very kind and caring. If we have any issues, the staff are very understanding and usually bend over backwards to solve.
Our mother has been at Ottley House for five years and is really happy. The staff are kind, respectful and professional. We love the fact that there is an arranged activity coordinator. Our mother benefits from the stimulation. The home has a warm, friendly, homely atmosphere. The staff training is given priority (shown, I feel by quality of care) Home is very well managed in my opinion.
Five years on and our 94-year-old mum is still being cared for and loved by the amazing staff, from domestic carers, nurses and even the chef. We had her 5th afternoon tea party complete with a fabulous cake made again by the chef/kitchen. It was on the 27th just last week. She has Vascular dementia and many other illnesses and handicaps. 5 years in her comfy bed and never a bedsore. There is nowhere better, although she may not know us, she does know she is comfortable and cared for. A glass of wine or a Baileys, delicious food in an immaculately clean premises, we can be assured she is so well looked after and as happy as she can be. Thank you Ottley House and all staff.
My brother has been with the home since August 2021. On average I visit about 3 times per week, each lasting about 1 hour. During this time, I have established a good relationship with all the staff, from management down to the cleaners. I have found them all to be friendly and supportive in the care of my brother and he seems happy and contented in his situation.
All I’m going to say is if you care about your loved ones do not leave them at Ottley House. The place is a dump and needs shutting down. Staff neglect residents and do not care. They leave them suffering. Animals would get treated better. Do not believe the 5-star reviews, they are probably made up by staff.
My mother has been living at Barchester Ottley House Care Home for the last 6 months. The staff are always smiling, they all work so hard to take care of all the residents. Nothing is too much trouble and they keep me informed on Mum's care phoning me if something has changed. The food is varied and there is always a nice choice for mum to choose from. I cannot fault the care my mum receives. They have activities regularly. Thank you to everyone from the manager to the cleaner for all your handwork and dedication to the residents
The home always treats the residents with the dignity and respect that they deserve. Nothing is too much trouble, it’s a real home from home experience, my Dad is a resident and has been since last November. He always has a smile for all the staff they treat him like family. I have no concerns when I leave him after visiting, he is well looked after. Activities are regular including singing, cake tasting and a Sunday service which he loves to attend. Staff always notify me if there are any concerns or changes no matter how small. I visited other Nursing homes but none had the “personal” touch that I feel Barchester Ottley House Care Home has! Thankyou Ottley!
