Caring open door to manager, staff are professional and caring to patients and family. Communication excellent, any problems picked up with patient's needs and dealt with quickly and efficiently ie doctor visits and family kept informed.
I had a wonderful two-week holiday. All the staff were very kind and caring.
My mother recently moved into Portland House from the hospital. The help, welcome and support from the whole team towards my mother and me has been excellent. I am always made to feel welcome and staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. My mother has settled for better than I ever thought possible, which has been so reassuring.
Cannot thank the team at Portland House enough for the time and care they gave my dad. He always felt like one of the family as opposed to just another patient. The time, effort and manner in which the team made him feel human and valued I cannot thank them enough for. All of which made his final weeks very comfortable and peaceful.
Both parents are in Portland House for respite care following illness. They have received excellent care and I have had very good support from the staff. My father had to go back into hospital and his room was kept for him and staff have asked after him every day when I visited my mother I would highly recommend Portland House.
The staff were caring to my son.
When it came time for our mum to move from residential to nursing care my sister and I had some trepidation not wanting to lose the engagement and stimulation we knew she responded well to. We also didn't want a home with a clinical atmosphere and were delighted therefore to find Portland House with its clean but homely feel and daily entertainment programme. The manager and staff are always available to talk about any concerns you may have. We were made to feel welcome, could visit Mum at any time for as long as we wanted to and were never made to feel we were in the way. Mum’s room was treated as her own home and we were able to decorate it with any pictures or ornaments we liked to create a pretty and stimulating environment for her. The residents are treated with respect and dignity with their personal care, how they are dressed, talked to, with and about etc. As well as nursing everyone here from the manager to the maintenance man genuinely cares about the people in their charge.
My mother spent over 2 years at Portland House at the end of her life and we found the level of care offered by all the staff to be very high. There is a very homely, warm atmosphere and you feel every effort is made to keep residents comfortable, clean, well-fed and engaged. Very special thanks and gratitude to the nurses, carers and all those involved in alleviating my mum's suffering at the end, their kindness and support towards me.
Everyone was helpful and made us feel that Dad was in safe hands and that he mattered to them. Dad was comfortable and supported throughout his time in the home. The staff are friendly and approachable. They made you welcome any time of day or night.
Mum is so happy here, which is such a relief for me and the rest of the family. Mum enjoys the activities and music, especially singing the old songs she grew up with. She has a lovely room with an ensuite bathroom and it's full of her favourite things. The staff are great with Mum, she enjoys their company, fun and laughter, and they take good care of her.
My mother is extremely confused but seems very happy at Portland House. I am unable to visit as often as I would like because of personal circumstances but I have no concerns at all about the excellent care and attention that my mother receives.
Portland House Nursing Home was fabulously taking care of my mother who was in for respite care. The staff etc were fantastic and I can wish for Mum to be able to go in there permanently, as I know she will be taken care of without having to worry.
My mum has been a resident of Portland House for many years. She is comfortable and happy. She loves her room which looks out onto the entrance, so enjoys seeing people coming and going on the odd occasion she stays in there. The nursing home is exceptionally well led and my mum's medical and well being needs are attended to with diligence by the experienced nurses and carers. Any questions or concerns I have raised have been resolved quickly. The staff have recently been extra caring and supportive due to a family bereavement, for which I am extremely grateful. It is such a great comfort to me to know that my mum is so well cared for.
We have great confidence in the care provided by Portland House and their staff, our mum spent a couple of years here before passing and when our father became unable to fend for himself, he expressed a preference to attend Portland House, initially for respite care and ultimately as a resident. Everyone is so friendly, welcoming and helpful.
It broke my heart to admit that I could no longer care for my lovely mum at home but after her condition deteriorated I was left with no option but full-time nursing care. Portland House care home was recommended to me and after meeting the manager and having a look around, I was happy we had found the right home. I have found staff to be friendly and approachable and if I ever have any questions or issues they are answered and resolved immediately. The inside of the home is beautiful and well-maintained and it's lovely to see the residents enjoying mealtimes together where possible. Everywhere is very clean and the communal rooms are bright and comfortable. Staff really care about the resident's family members as well as the resident. The manager has been very supportive and her office door is always open for a chat or a cry! Mum has a lovely, light airy room and enjoys seeing the staff passing her door. She is safe and cared for and that is the most important thing.
Really grateful for the exceptional care Mum is receiving at Portland House. It is very clear how much her health has improved over the last 16 months. Recently when my Dad didn’t appear for visiting the team followed it up and potentially saved his life in alerting me. Just wish to put on record my thanks and appreciation.
My dad was transferred to Portland House after a hospital stay which prevented him from returning home. Dad had dementia and wasn't the easiest of residents I'm sure to deal with, but the care he received was second to none and I will forever be grateful to all of the staff at Portland House for making him comfortable during his final months. I would not hesitate to recommend Portland House to anyone considering it.
Making the difficult decision to accept you can't give the care your parent needs at home anymore is solely destroying. But finding the gem that is Portland House has helped restore my faith in the care system. The care my dad is receiving at Portland House is exceptional. The staff are friendly and attentive, and it has a real family feel about it. The matron is very approachable, the nurses are great, and the care staff do care! Then all the people behind the scenes, domestic, kitchen admin etc are always friendly too.
My father seems to have settled in well at Portland House Care Home after being unable to cope at home following a stroke and several hospital stays. The manager and all the staff are friendly and have been very supportive to us.
