View Full Details of River Meadows Nursing HomeIt took me a while to find the right nursing home for Mum. I visited quite a few, however as soon as I went to River Meadows it just felt right - good positive atmosphere etc, friendly home. Mum was at the home from June 2024 to her passing in March 2025. It has been a wonderful place for her, where she has been cared for at a high standard in all aspects. She also made friends with some of the residents and they enjoyed various events and eating together too. The team made Mum's visitors feel so welcome including myself and I got to know the staff well over the month. Everyone from managers to nurses, admin team, care staff, chef and cleaners seemed to know my mum and know what she liked etc. The care was exceptional and to add to this the home has Henry who liked going in Mum's room and she believed he was her cat! Even as the end was coming for Mum, the team looked after her, made sure she was comfortable and kept me informed at every stage. Their kindness and sensitivity has been really appreciated by me, family and friends who have visited. If you ever need me to give a recommendation for someone considering River Meadows I would do that willingly. I would also say that prior to moving there my Mum was at her home and due to her deterioration, it became a burden for me to look after her plus work full-time, my relationship was strained as I was exhausted. Mum's stay at River Measows gave me back my mum and our relationship blossomed again. This was an added bonus I didn't expect. So a big thank you to all of the team who looked after my mum and inadvertently looked after me too. Note - I can't really comment on activities, but I am sure they are excellent and I know that my mum was always included, but due to working I wasn't really around to observe this.
My Daughter received nothing but first-class professional care during her time in River Meadows, right up to her death. The manager was so supportive and kept us so informed at all times. I did not have the pleasure to visit River Meadows as I was caring for her dad who also passed away recently. But I will never forget the manager and her team's kindness and support, they attended to everything and I mean everything.
My Uncle - who is 80 years of age - is currently receiving respite care at River Meadows whilst he is waiting for medical treatment following a recent hospital admission. As part of this is vision-related, he cannot function safely at home but also now has issues with severe anxiety. This makes it impossible for him to care for himself in a domestic environment at present, so he is staying at River Meadows until his operations and referrals have been carried out and we can plan a route forward. Having lived in the same house for over sixty years, this has not been an easy transition for him and let's just say he has not always been the most enthusiastic and cooperative resident! Of course, much of this is due to his current health and anxiety issues, and as such, the team have been both patient and understanding. He's started on some medication and is now much more relaxed and settled. I'm kept in the loop where needed and the manager and the team go out of their way to help me when I have a query.
Outstanding clinical and medical support. Friendly, caring, approachable staff. Good food. A room with a beautiful view over open countryside and en suite toilet and washroom. Exceptional activities, entertainment and individual support by a full-time member of staff. Meeting for residents and family members. It is such a relief that Mum is living somewhere with this level of 24-hour care and support when she needed it and is happy here. Highly recommended.
My father was placed in River Meadows from another care home due to poor care. He was just left to lie in his bed and no communication. From the 1st day of being in River Meadows, we saw a big change in our dad. He was eating and drinking sitting up. Sitting in a chair and most of all laughing again and talking to other residents. We had our dad back. All the staff go above and beyond, I can't thank them enough for what they did for our dad. It's just a pity we didn't choose it sooner. I highly recommend this home.
What an amazing caring home. My father was end of life/palliative care and moved here for the last 5 weeks of his life. The change in him was amazing it was like turning back the clock 30 years. The laughter in his room from the caring staff banter was great. We knew we could leave him there without worry. The chef did special menus for him. One of the staff took him to be pampered in the salon. The nursing staff are so caring and attentive answering all concerns. Being in River Meadows made my dad's passing for us as smooth as it can be because we knew his last few weeks he was happy.
The care my mother receives at River Meadows is outstanding. The staff do care. My mother's room is always clean and tidy and the staff respond to Mum's needs in a professional and timely manner. The staff at River Meadows have mostly been there for many years, which informs me that the management team must be getting it right. Well done to all at RM.
I have found River Meadows Nursing Home a caring safe environment for my mother. The staff are supportive albeit constantly very busy working under challenging conditions which I am sure is indicative of the social care sector as a whole. Any concerns are dealt with in a sympathetic manner. Management are approachable. Lots of activities for the residents. Overall River Meadows is a lovely home.
Fantastic activities coordinator although never enough staff, they are hardworking and caring. Management team are efficient and on the ball. Best nursing home I've ever been in. Wonderfully caring and empathetic during end of life for my husband, extremely supportive to me.
The staff are always very friendly and professional, also very knowledgeable and patient. They treat dad like an individual and remain respectful even when his behaviour is challenging. They include him in activities without forcing him to do something he doesn't want to do. The home is always clean and tidy, the food is excellent and dietary needs are catered for. It really is a home from home, but it is the staff that make this home unique they are like one big family and it is because of their efforts and dedication dad remains there.
My mother is extremely well looked after by kind, caring staff. Very clean, comfortable room and she is very happy. Excellent activities co-ordinator, doing lots of crafts and trips out.
I can't speak highly enough of River Meadows Care Home at Shawbury. My sister passed away recently in the home - she had been a resident for palliative care for 5 months. She could not have been treated better ANYWHERE. The loving care that she received from all the staff was without fault and it was a great relief to me to know she was being cared for when I was unable to make my daily visits. It is a very well run nursing home and I would be quite happy to spend my own final days in their care - but not just yet I hope!!
The care and support for my mother was superb. Brilliant staff who were compassionate and caring. Lovely clean rooms. Marvellous grounds. Cant praise this place enough. Thank you for all your help.
