View Full Details of Allambie CourtHad a lovely experience today. It was my Brother's birthday. Today we took him to The Chase (which is a walk up the road). How lovely to be able to have a change of scenery for a while, within walking distance. Then he celebrated his birthday with a birthday cake which the home supplied, and treats, celebrating with Staff and other Residents. My Brother was previously in a Nursing Home that didn't have local amenities. Thus, being in a wheelchair and unable to transfer, there would have not been anywhere to take him to socialise on occasions. In the Summer months, he's been taken to the recreation grounds, watching children play, whilst also enjoying the fresh air.
Carers are excellent but extremely thin on the ground. Little or no time to engage on a one to one basis. Music, which I understand stimulates people with dementia was rarely played. At meal times some residents are not seated at a table they eat off trays! There is no member of staff to book you in or out which is itself a fire risk! I wished to be involved with my mum’s care plan-failure to discuss with the family mums wishes in advance caused me great a lot of distress when she died. Nurse saved mums life when she had a stroke and I will forever be indebted to her. Events coordinator took photographs on her own personal mobile phone. No idea about data protection! No accounts are displayed to show how much has been collected towards resident’s funds.
My wife has been a client at Allambie since August 2009 and I have nothing but praise for the care and attention the staff have given to her. In most assessments the word "challenging" is used --- and the staff coped.
Having had a preconceived idea of nursing homes, I was reluctant to place my husband in one. Allambie Court has changed my opinion, the staff are all wonderful and I'm very happy with the care given. Many thanks to all of the Carers who genuinely care about all of the residents they look after.
