First experience of a nursing home for our relative. Sadly turned out to
be a poor one. No senior members of staff introduced themselves or
rarely spoke to us as family members. Our relative was kept in
isolation for over half of their stay, at risk of falls this only
impeded the situation and made respite a difficult time for all. The
family felt the need to visit still daily again against the point of
respite care. Couldn’t covid tests be done at home prior to avoid this
for residents? If at all still needed now. Staff were all wearing masks
and appeared not to be transitioning into a covid recovery. Told to ring
to give the time of the visit which is very restrictive and had to visit
in the bedroom; never in communal areas. This wasn’t home from home as
we expected, very depressing for the resident and family. This resulted
in ending respite early. Tablets stock amount we thought were not
returned, own GP cancelled by the home leaving us with our relative in
end-of-life care with no GP and took ages to sort.
