View Full Details of Millfield Nursing HomeI'm more than happy with the care my mum receives. All the staff are friendly and always willing to help with anything.
Mum spent her last few months at Millfield and we couldn’t have wished for a better place to end her days. All the staff were fabulous with her. They loved her like their own. They welcomed us as visitors anytime. Which we greatly appreciated during her final week. We as a family would like to thank each and every member of staff.
My mother stayed at Millfield Nursing Home struggling with poor mobility following a hospital admission. Sadly I feel that my mother’s physical and mental health declined in the four weeks that she was there and the promise of care that would be provided for my mother was not fulfilled. The high price does not reflect a high standard of quality of care and value for money. However the thing I find the most shocking was getting my mother to sign a Residence Contract without a family member present. I was later told “she has capacity” but at 96 I feel this is totally unacceptable. Yes, she has capacity but not to sign a 13-page contract setting out the legally binding terms and conditions of her stay. This really is not good practice.
Our mum was in Millfield care home for three and a half years from June 2020 to December 2023 when she passed away. Over the years the care our mum received was incredible, they treated her with love and respect and she formed special bonds with all of the wonderful staff. When our mum had her stroke it was so hard for me and my two sisters having to put her in a care home, but we were so glad we chose Millfield. We ourselves built up really good relationships with all the staff, nothing was too much trouble. We experienced some wonderful moments with Mum, especially going down to watch the entertainment singers, Christmas and Summer fairs. Knowing our mum was loved and cared for by everyone gave us peace. In Mum's final days everyone was absolutely amazing in every way, the way they handled Mum, how they treated and spoke to her was just incredible, they supported us too and couldn’t do enough for us all. There are not enough words to say how grateful we are to each and every one of them. Thank you.
My mother-in-law stayed for a week’s respite care. The room was excellent, with a huge en-suite bathroom. The staff were so welcoming and couldn’t do enough for her. They were so friendly, and the support they gave her was brilliant. The food was good, and they always encouraged her to eat with other residents. The management of the home was excellent. Overall, a really nice place to stay. She definitely wants to return for another stay.
I've witnessed residents being shouted at by carers. Resident checks are infrequent, and they can be left on the floor, shouting for help for an hour or more at a time. Meal quality/size is inconsistent, and residents are sometimes forgotten. Residents are often insufficiently dressed, and the home is insufficiently heated. Clothes regularly go missing. The majority of residents are also left in their rooms, with no stimulation, and excluded from any form of entertainment. The carers have no dementia training, and most don't understand how to speak to anybody who lacks full capacity. Don't expect to see the manager around the home, as she is usually locked in her office. The floor is often dirty/sticky, and excessive amounts of air freshener is used, which is bad for those with respiratory problems. I could put more, but running out of characters! This home may be okay for somebody who can speak for themself, however, I'd avoid if your/your relatives' needs are at all more complex.
Dad had short spells of respite over the last year so when it came to full-time care we were confident that Millfield Nursing Home was to be his home. It is such a friendly and welcoming place for both residents and their family. The staff are so caring and I feel confident Dad is getting the best care he could. Also, the activities and days out are great for the residents and Dad never complains about the food!. Would definitely recommend.
Good experience at the care home. The staff are caring and attentive. The only problem I have is with the cleaning regime, which I feel could be more thorough, especially when it concerns bathrooms and toilet areas.
Some staff are great. Others are not committed to care and seem to spend more time sat talking near the lift than attending to patients. Most of the staff are very good and the facilities are OK. Sometimes people lose sight of just how much some patients are paying from their own life savings to be cared for.
A very friendly atmosphere from all the staff and around the home in general. Resident checks are very frequent and jovial. Help with feeding the resident is gladly given. The dignity of resident is protected at all times by the staff. End-of-life care given with care and compassion. This applies to visitors as well as the resident. A home where caring is the number one priority. I would definitely recommend this care home.
The staff here are fantastic and worth their weight in Gold. Dad went in the nursing home after an awful time in hospital. He has Alzheimer's and deteriorated a lot in hospital. All the staff at Millfield Nursing, from nursing staff, carers, laundry, cleaning and cooks, and not least the entertainment staff, they are all a credit to the home for not only doing their job but for clearly caring for the residents and the family who visit. My dad is now on end of life care, and he is so comfortable and relaxed it is making a terrible time seem so much more bearable. I thank God that my dad was put in this nursing home. He has clean clothes on every day, all washed and ironed well. He is clean shaven. The food is great, home cooked food, amazing cakes. Over many years I have visited people in nursing homes and never seen as much care as I see in Millfield. It is such an important job, and having the right staff is crucial. Thank you to all the Millfield staff.
Mum came in September 2021 and settled in really quickly. She is enjoying her new surroundings and is being looked after really well.
My opinion is that Millfield at Bolsover is run to the highest degree. Management is excellent and very professional. Staff are very responsive and caring to their job in caring, not only for Mum to the highest attribution possible. My trust is with this nursing home to look after my mum, 95 years old, to which I compliment them on a good job and care.
It's been amazing to see dad and mum. The staff are amazing. The visit through the french doors was very emotional.
All the staff are very caring and patient. Although most are quite young, they have a lot of compassion. The activities are very good with quite a variety from games to quizzes and cooking.
My mum arrived at Millfield in very poor health, after a prior nursing home stay. Instantly, the Millfield staff went above and beyond to welcome mum, make her comfortable and ensure her environment was as loving as possible. As family members, we found the support and guidance provided second to none. Staff went out of their way to help and support us, something that was incredibly reassuring at such a difficult time.
The overall care of my relative is very good. I would recommend Millfield care home to anyone needing care.
My mum and I are both happy with the care and support she is receiving. We enjoy attending the activities the home provides. They seem to be bringing my mum back to her old self. We are looking forward to having Christmas dinner at Millfield with my mum.
My nana was a resident of this care home until she passed away. I truly believe her final year was made to be a truly great one. The activities kept the residents busy and the staff were always attentive.
A well-run home from home. Good food, cleaning food, no smells. Don't water plants! Friendly staff, very responsible and good carers.
