View Full Details of Moorland HouseOur mum began to need more care than her assisted living flat could provide. Having looked at several and asked around, we were lucky to get a room for Mum at Moorland House. The decision to move a parent into a residential care home is not an easy one, but we were unable to cope with her increasing needs. Mum has been there now for 6 months and we are pleased with her care. The home is responsive, the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming and there is a programme of activities which is good. Her room is spotlessly clean and she has a hairdressing appt each week. Her nails were even painted recently. The building may not look the smartest from the outside but don't let that deter you. There is a warm welcome inside and the friendly carers have the patience of saints.
My mother required more care as she became frailer and we wanted to choose a care home with good recommendations and within easy reach of the family. Moorland House met both requirements. Whilst the decor may be dated and in need of some TLC, the important aspects of care support, food and staff are excellent.
Truly a wonderful care home. Level of care is very high, food is wonderful and there are daily varied activities. I feel nothing is too much trouble for the staff and minor issues are handled quickly. The staff appear happy and caring (even if run off their feet) - lots of smiley faces. The Moorlands social media page is a great way of keeping up with events, so lovely to see Mum engaging in activities. My mum is thriving here. Thanks to the gentle and kind way Mum is spoken to at Moorlands she now speaks to me more positively than in the past. Highly recommended.
My cousin was determined to remain in her own home, ending up with 3 care visits daily (too much can go wrong!) and after falls was at the end of her tether. I knew Moorland House as a volunteer originally and sought respite care urgently and two staff assessed her in a certain location - she would require the highest level of support. A fine room was made available and I assured my cousin she would be happy there. From the outset when she declined a wheelchair from the car and entered with her Zimmer frame and a helping hand to say 'It's nice and warm in here' she felt secure and was delighted with her room. All the staff were very welcoming and supportive. Fortunately, she was able to stay on as a resident. I consider Moorland House to be organised very professionally. Everything is spotless, the staff are so helpful, the food is good and activities are popular. They have coped well with some problems and keep me informed.
Mum has lived at Moorland House for just over two years and settled in really quickly thanks to the friendliness and patience of the staff. The thing that is so nice about Moorland House is other residents' families also say hello and have a chat with her as I do with them when I visit. The staff are helpful, friendly and polite and I know there is always someone I can talk to if there is a problem. Not everything is perfect, but Mum is happy and because I can call in any time of the day, it gives me great comfort to know that if I can't be there she is well looked after. The activities are frequent and well-organised and the staff get really involved especially with sing a longs and musical events. Christmas was amazing, the home was beautifully decorated and there was practically something happening right through December. They also encourage groups and residents from the village to visit the home, to talk and do activities with the residents which is lovely to see.
Christmas can be a lonely time but the staff at Moorland House do all they can to make sure everyone has an enjoyable time. There are many activities and outside groups visiting ie choirs, school children and theatre company. Although this is just once a year the other 11 months are just as good! I believe a home is only as good as its staff and at Moorland House they are excellent.
Mum moved into Moorland house a year ago and feels she made the right decision at an appropriate time in her life. Tried 24-hour care at own home but realised she was bored and wanted to make new friends and participate in activities. Moorland House has certainly ticked those boxes for her. She has a lovely room, super caring staff and plenty of activities to choose from. The staff are proactive in maintaining and supporting her safe mobility which is wonderful. Everyone is very friendly and it is a lovely caring environment. Staff are easily contactable and update relatives on a regular basis on residents' health and welfare. As a family, we feel very blessed that Mum is happy at Moorland House and she is content, enjoying friendship, love, music and safe, competent care. Thank you!
We spent a long time looking for a suitable home for my mum and visited many different places that looked great online but were disappointed in reality. As soon as we set foot in Moorland House, it felt different. The staff were naturally relaxed and friendly which was reflected in how content residents were. The home has lots of big windows with beautiful views of the gardens and hills so it feels light. There are lovely craft activities organised and visits from musicians and entertainers that bring residents together and most importantly, there are conversations and companionship. Mum has lived at Moorland House for just over a year now and she loves it - she feels safe and happy - and we in turn feel reassured that we definitely made the right decision for her.
The staff are responsive to the needs of my dad and manage these needs well between them. The home has a very caring ethos and this is led by an excellent manager. My dad is not an easy man to care for and the staff have been able to manage him with a high degree of compassion and dignity in the latter stages of his life. As a son, I have been always welcomed and I have been very impressed by the care given.
Mum has been living and thriving in the super environment of Moorland House Care Home for the last five years. She's been really welcome and cared for ever since she moved in, even calling it 'my home' after only the first couple of weeks. It was a huge relief to the whole family to have Mum so happy and engaged after feeling isolated in her old home. A huge thank you to all the staff...or 'the extended family' as Mum calls them.
Moorland House is a warm, friendly and caring environment. The staff all know my mother by name and she seems happy and well looked after. The home manager runs a 'tight ship' in my view and does a great job in light of tight resources and the legacy of covid. I know my mother would appreciate more home cooking of cakes and I think her room could do with a quarterly 'deep clean' but overall I'm very happy with Moorland House.
My mother moved to Moorland House after having a bad fall and being hospitalised for some time. She was very distressed and didn’t want to move into a care home. The staff have been wonderful and have helped her recover. She now regards them as friends and feels very comfortable. She enjoys her meals and has put on weight. She no longer wants to return to her home as she feels safe and well supported.
My aunt is very happy at Moorland House. She has lived there several years and only has good things to say about the staff and the care she gets. She also says that she enjoys her meals. She has several serious health issues and was not well physically or mentally when she first went in. She is much happier and her physical health is better than when she arrived despite her being a few years older.
My grandma came to Moorland House for respite, following a fall. She really enjoyed it. She joined in with all the groups, attended the weekly church service and even had her hair done every week. She made some good friends with both staff and residents. The care, food, and cleanliness were great. Thank you so much for taking such good care of her.
We had been caring for my mother for a number of years and she has a complex set of conditions. After a stay in hospital, it became evident we could no longer cope with her at home and she moved into Moorland House in October 2020. This was at the beginning of the second lock down which meant we couldn’t visit her to see if she had settled in. Staff and management welcomed her in and took the time to get to know her, and her needs. It was a difficult time due to COVID restrictions stopping us from visiting. Video calls were arranged which helped us keep in touch. Moorland House have a number of social activities within the care home which my mother has been taking part in especially the art classes and music, as we can see on social media. The atmosphere when you go in is always nice, Moorland House feels homely, not corporate. The staff are incredibly patient, kind and friendly with a good sense of humour. Couldn’t ask for anything more at her stage in life.
My mother-in-law was a strong independent octogenarian brought low by a sudden fall. She initially, and understandably, struggled to come to terms with moving permanently to a care home. The staff of Moorlands, with their unfailing patience and friendly but professional approach, helped her settle into her new home which she now appreciates and, whisper it quietly, is starting to rather enjoy, This is a testament to the quality of care she receives. Well done to the team.
My dad moved to Moorland House as his health had deteriorated to the point it wasn't safe for him to be at home. His mobility has been very variable over the months he's been at Moorland House, but it's been very reassuring to have seen how well he's been looked after on his good days and his bad days. All the staff are so friendly and have made him (and us) feel welcome. They've encouraged him to be as independent as is practical, and have worked really well with all the family to make his move to Moorland House work.
I am now able to visit my uncle again in Moorland House, in his room. The team facilitated the visit very well and their approach to dealing with the COVID pandemic since early 2020 has been excellent. My uncle is well cared for and he is happy in MHA Moorland House. He specifically wanted an MHA facility and he is happy with the choice we made. The staff are always helpful and, as I live over 2 hours drive away, it is important to have a rapport with the carers so that any issues or accidents are discussed and dealt with professionally, which they are. I and my family would thank the care team for their hard work, particularly since the onset of the COVID pandemic which has made the task especially difficult for the staff. Thank you.
My aunt has lived in Moorland House for over 2 years. Although not in good health, she continues to be supported by the caring staff. I live 3 hours drive away and visit every 5-6 weeks. The staff are always welcoming when we visit.
My mother is cared for so well by the lovely team at Moorland House who go out of their way to look after her. She is settled and happy, raves about the food and has made some lovely friends. I'm delighted I can visit her in her room again and bring her out. I would highly recommend Moorland House and am so glad Mummy moved there as she could no longer manage at home. During the pandemic, when visiting was not possible the staff were fantastic at arranging video calls. They have all been under so much pressure over the last 18 months but it never shows, they are always upbeat and welcoming.
