View Full Details of Oaklands Care HomeDad is happy and cared for. Staff are fantastic, really polite caring and show the residents total respect. Nothing seems to be too much trouble, so glad we chose Oakland for my dad to spend his remaining years.
The staff are really hard-working, on occasions they looked understaffed due to being here, there and everywhere, I don’t know how they do it really. Always polite and pleasant. Sadly, my dad passed away in November 2023, and two particular members of staff were really supportive and actively encouraged us to visit as many times as we could and to stay as long as we needed to. The staff really stepped up during those last few days and hours, checking on my dad and checking on us with friendly and comforting conversations, which really helped a lot, especially those last few hours. Two other members of staff were also brilliant, obviously not having gone through this before; we had questions which they answered, helping to make us understand what was happening, whether he was comfortable or what was next, etc. Overall, the staff really humbled me; they're so professional and have so much strength to work through those difficult times, making sure everyone involved is being thought about and comfortable.
My father moved into this home earlier this year after a rapid deterioration of Alzheimer's. The management and staff can not do enough to help. They've made him feel at home and us very welcome. My father's appearance can not be faulted; they make sure he's cared for and attend to his every need. I highly recommend this care home.
Mum came to live at Oaklands Care Home in February this year after a long stint in hospital. As a family, we feel extremely lucky that mum has joined the Oaklands family. Every single member of staff has made the whole family feel so welcome: I do not need to worry about the care mum gets. Her room is always spotless; she is always dressed well; she is so well looked after in every respect. We genuinely cannot thank everyone enough - you are all amazing!
The carers were excellent. My issues are with management who despite saying their policies are in line with government recommendations, they are not. Despite the Government saying quarantine was not required after visits out, I was told again and again that it was. I had to go above and speak to the area manager to get this corrected. Government guidance allowed me to be an essential caregiver and two extra visitors should have been allowed as well. We were only allowed one extra contravening government guidance. When mum was on end of life, the GP prescribed morphine every two hours if needed. We requested meds when mum was showing signs of pain. This was most frequently every four hours. Two nurses accepted our word, two would not until they saw it for themselves. We did not ask unless we had seen pain signs. As it took twenty minutes to get the meds this needed to be at the first sign, not once the pain was strong. The manager misinformed us about mum on a few occasions.
The care my Grandmother receives is phenomenal. This home is filled with love and laughter, with a care team of people who are passionate about caring for people. My grandmother is always clean, well cared for and happy, as a family we couldn’t wish for better. The facilities and activities available are brilliant, and the team are so creative and understanding. My Grandmother is treated with dignity and respect and despite her dementia feels settled and at home in the Oaklands. Would not want her to be anywhere else!
My mum has been lucky enough to be a resident here for the past year. I can’t recommend it highly enough. The lengths the management and staff have gone to are amazing as we only had a couple of weeks before lockdown started so didn’t have time to take many belongings in. One day the manager asked me to email lots of family photos through for Mum and together they laminated them to make her a photograph album. She even sent me a video of Mum looking through them! The home have always maintained regular contact throughout lockdown and I was so overwhelmed when I could finally visit just how happy, content and well cared for she looked. I never have concerns about my mum at all as I firmly believe she has the best care possible.
My godmother has been a resident of the Care Home for 5 years. She is well looked after by the caring staff who have helped her continue to live as full a life as possible even with dementia. My godmother is very happy despite all of the challenges that her illness presents and that is largely down to the staff in the home as well as the residents. It has been a difficult year for all concerned but the staff and management have put all safeguards in place to protect all of the residents from Covid; well done to you all with grateful thanks.
This care home is truly wonderful from the manager to the admin staff, the carers, maintenance man, in fact, everyone who works here is fantastic. I have a friend who has developed severe dementia and was seriously ill and luckily I made contact with the manager and without hesitation, she visited him in hospital and assessed my friend and invited him into their family at the home, this saved his life and has given him a quality of life he once had again. I cannot thank the total members of staff for the wonderful job they are doing at such difficult times, nothing is too much trouble for them. I have had lockdown like most people, but the home has produced a bubble which allows me 15 minutes live visits every week which means so much to my friend as I am the only person outside the home he remembers and the person who supervisors these visits even rings me to make sure I remember my visit, thank you mate. I am kept updated with my friend's medication and his diet. Thank you.
The staff employed at Oaklands are always helpful and actually do seem to care about the residents, they have always been very friendly towards visitors and get to know them and take an interest in the whole family, both the visitors and residents. They have made visiting possible recently in what are very difficult circumstances due to COVID, and prior to that offered video calls so that we could keep in touch with our Dad, which can’t have been easy for them trying to fit in these extra tasks. The management always seems to be hands-on and are involved in the day to day care of the residents, and not just behind a desk. The food is very good and offers a choice daily to cater for all needs, and the members of staff serving the food know the residents by name and are very friendly towards them. Overall the care home offers a safe and secure environment for our loved ones, with caring staff, which gives the relatives peace of mind that they are being well looked after.
Very friendly and caring staff who have worked extremely hard through these hard times. They have gone beyond the realms of duty. It is a hard decision when choosing a residential home for your loved ones but I would highly recommend Oaklands and their lovely staff.
All the staff at the home have great care and compassion for the residents and view it as the residents' home, not their workplace. It is a wonderful feeling knowing that my step mum gets the love and care she needs. Due to her complex needs, we couldn't give her that and it was a huge and very difficult decision to make for my Dad. Staff at Oaklands treat her with respect and compassion and meet her every need. We have trust in and respect for the staff of Oaklands.
My wife has been a resident of Oakland's for very nearly 4 years during this time she has been looked after extremely well. I find that the staff are very caring and extremely patient with those that are in need of shall we say extra care. My wife is so very settled and with the way she reacts to the staff she really feels at home. The food is very good and the accommodation is reasonable. My wife is always clean and tidy, her clothes are always kept clean. The activities have improved greatly and you only have to look at the videos to see what an effect it is having. The visiting area that has been built is a great job and it is fantastic to be able to see our loved ones in person as it makes us feel better.
I am sure I can speak of the total admiration and gratitude of both myself, our children and grandchildren who have visited Oaklands since my wife was admitted in November. We do miss visiting her since lockdown but accept the need to also do our bit to keep Oaklands clear of covid 19 and follow closely any directives we are given. I cannot thank you all enough for the constant caring attitude and attention to my wife's needs. We could not expect more. Also for the friendly reception on the telephone and indeed when visiting in person. We feel like friends of Oaklands. A special and extra effort was made setting out our anniversary lunch in February. Many thanks again, this is typical of all the staff's attention to detail. Sincere thanks again.
The staff are very caring and loving towards the residents. The general atmosphere in the home is friendly, compassionate and relaxed.
My husband has been at Oaklands for 22 months and I have always been impressed with the care and professionalism of the staff. They are kind to both my husband and myself and I have nothing but praise for them all there. I would recommend this home to my family, friends and anyone that mentions the home. The staff go out of their way to make the residents and their families feel at home and valued.
Oakland's Care Home is a very lovely nursing home my wife lived there for 8 years. The staff there are so welcoming to everyone no job was ever too big for them. I would highly recommend to anyone that is looking for continued care.
My husband has been in Oaklands about two months. I and the family find the overall standard good. All staff are helpful. Clean rooms, food, and drink are good. Safety and security are good.
Dad is happy and cared for. Staff are fantastic, really polite caring and show the residents total respect. Nothing seems to be too much trouble, so glad we chose Oakland for my dad to spend his remaining years.
