View Full Details of Oval HouseIn lockdown so did not see too much in the 3 weeks I was involved - so can't comment on much of the building, food etc. There were complicated circumstances concerning my friend - no next of kin etc. I was well informed by the staff at all times and dealt with professionally and empathetically.
Following the sudden and unexpected need for my mum to require 24-hour nursing care, I was apprehensive and worried about her going into a care home that I had not been able to check out or even see her due to covid. Over the past couple of months, all staff that I have encountered have been friendly and supportive. I have been kept well informed about my mum and the staff have been patient and understanding of my fears. I have been able to Facetime and talk to my mum on the phone which although it's heartbreaking not to see her, has reassured me that she feels safe and happy. The staff have quickly made a positive relationship with my mum and speak fondly of her. The staff are knowledgeable and up to date on my mum's needs as well as being able to respond in a timely and effective way to her needs as they change. Thank you all for the kindness and support that you have shown my mum and family.
An indication of the level of care and attention to safety in these Covid-19 days could be summed up in the initial “meet and greet” of my mother-in-law on arrival at her new home. Appropriately dressed in full PPE gear the manager knelt down to her wheelchair, eye-level requesting permission to take her temperature. The ongoing care and individual attention shown by the manager and his staff to their new “resident” has been exceptional, and we as a family could not be more thankful to them for the peace of mind that this brings. (As a postscript, my mother-in-law seems to be settling in and getting on well with the staff, admiring the pear tree through her window with wistful memories of scrumping and loving the grub!)
The staff at the Firlands are very good to Mum who has dementia. They are a very caring and dedicated team. They have time to talk with us any time of day and keep us informed with Mum's progress. Nothing is ever too much trouble for them, they make us feel like a part of their family. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, I've not really seen inside the home and rooms or meals properly but from what I've seen when I've been there it looks like a nice place. I would recommend the Firlands to anyone who need to be placed in residential care.
Every time I have left Firlands after visiting my brother, I am assured he is being cared for to the best possible standard. My brother is not an easy client and I appreciate the home's honesty in relating both the ups and downs of everyday life. I know that in all circumstances he is being treated with kindness, dignity, and respect. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I am being informed of his welfare on a regular basis.
My uncle was moved here because he needed more care, which his first home couldn't provide due to my uncle falling a lot, and just needing more care. Since my uncle was moved here he is more settled and happy. So I would be very happy to let people know that any family member would be well looked after.
All of the staff are excellent and very helpful always willing to do anything for both my husband and myself. Nothing is too much trouble.
Firlands Care Home, where my mother is staying, is a very homely place. Nothing is too much trouble for staff. Very caring to my mum, the home has a very relaxed atmosphere. Mum's needs and dignity is uppermost. The manager was very helpful, answered all our questions, very hand's on with all staff and residents.
My mother was transferred from her previous home following a safeguarding issue. She was extremely unwell and uncared for. This changed as soon as she arrived at Braunston Firlands. Staff took time to sit with him and listen to her even though she makes little sense when speaking. Mum's much more settled and the pressure sore she has had for over a year was treated and healed within a month of her arrival at Firlands.
This is an excellent home which provides first-class care for the patients. The staff are friendly and polite and are willing to help visitors in any way they can. I would recommend this home to anyone.
