View Full Details of Homer Lodge Care CentreExcellent care. The manager and his team are excellent and give great care and support.
Overall, I am well satisfied.
My dad went to Homer Lodge for respite and physio after a spell in hospital. He was put on the 3rd floor at the end of the corridor for 3 days and nights. There was a constant alarm going off (obviously a resident was pressing the alarm although no one was attending). On the 3rd morning of him being there a carer walked in to his bedroom at around 7am, pulled his quilt off him then pulled his pyjama bottoms down (dad being half asleep asked what she was doing). She then pulled his quilt back over him and said you don't have a nappy to change and walked out. Dad is not incontinent. This should never have happened, there is no dignity in this place. Myself and siblings took him out of there were he is now recovering at home.
I was placed in transitional care at Homer Lodge Care Centre after a fall. My stay was temporary. I found all the staff very helpful and polite. The carers were lovely. Even the cleaners were lovely and engaged in conversation. The food was good and you had a choice of different meals. My care was designed for my needs and I had visiting Physio Therapist. The only thing I would say is perhaps the meals could be a little hotter for my liking. I went to a seated exercise class held in the lounge. It was very good. The guy taking you through exercises made it fun and engaged in personal conversation with all service users.
My Dad was in here for 2 weeks after being in Hospital for 4 weeks. He was in here for rehabilitation. Can't fault the staff who were always friendly, helpful and always listened to what we needed as a family. It was clean and Dad said the food was good, beats the hospital any day. Thank you for looking after my dad, much appreciated.
My stay at Homer Lodge was due to an accident where I was confined to bed rest initially. My room was spacious and clean. The management were hands-on with all professional ethics where the patient comes first. I was very impressed with how well the facility was organised and how attentive and friendly the staff were. The chef and kitchen staff were concerned about allergies and catered for our personal meds to a very high standard. I can recommend Homer Lodge and will revisit on my passing as I know I feel very welcome as a friend.
My father spent 3 weeks at Homer Lodge in an active recovery bed. He definitely benefitted from this. He was well-fed and had the chance to recover his strength after 3 weeks in hospital. He had access to health professionals and a caring team of support workers. From the family's point of view, we were impressed with the care and support he received, enabling his return home when we didn't think it possible. We feel we would have benefitted from more info, more about what was on offer, visiting times, access etc. Perhaps a sheet of info could be provided.
My mum was taken to Homer Lodge after being in hospital. She was treated very well at Homer Lodge. The only complaint really is that when she arrived there her medication was not sorted out straight away because it was the weekend and no doctors available for prescription until nearly a week later. It causes a toxic build-up when patients do not have their recommended tablets, it is not good. The staff and management listened and acted as best they could. The staff are all thoughtful, caring and have lovely personalities. Thank you.
My mother-in-law was a resident of Homer Lodge from June 2023 to February 2024, when she passed away. Although the physical building is not luxurious and the location in the city is not near a country park, everything else about this care home is exemplary. The freshly cooked food (home cooked on the premises by superb chefs) / the very high standard entertainment (with an emphasis on 'arts and crafts' in a participative style) / the cleanliness (the whole place always smelt of pine or fresh lemon) and tidiness / the warmth in winter / the comfort of the armchairs / the service from the medical professionals (physiotherapy, nursing attendance, doctors etc) / the full-time maintenance staff to ensure any electrical or plumbing issues were quickly repaired etc. Most importantly, the genuine affection and brilliant care shown towards her by every single staff member was outstanding. We shall miss you all. Thank you.
My mother was admitted to the transition floor after falling and breaking her shoulder. She received physiotherapy during her 13-day stay. The care given by the care home manager and the care manager was above and beyond. They were empathetic and went to great lengths to secure correct medication for my mother. They were always willing to discuss her care and keep me informed of developments.
I cannot speak highly enough of the whole team at Homer Lodge. My grandma was a resident here for the last 6 months of her life and they made that time very special for her. From the brilliant food to the extensive range of activities, encouragement to get involved and comfortable surroundings. The care was exceptional, particularly in the final few weeks. The whole team showed genuine care and affection towards my grandma, whilst also providing support to us as a family. A heartfelt thank you for everything you did for her, it will never be forgotten.
My friend came to Homer Lodge after another fall and a visit to hospital. He was put onto palliative care shortly after arriving. He sadly passed away thereafter. The staff were absolutely amazing. They treated him with the utmost dignity and respect. They were so caring towards me too. Would thoroughly recommend.
A huge thank you to the wonderful staff who provided excellent, kind and loving palliative care to my mum. Everyone was so supportive - they took time to get to know my mum and were so lovely with her. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. To know my mum was in such safe hands during the last weeks of her life made such a difference to us as a family.
Although the location of Homer Lodge in a residential built-up area with no on-site residential parking and the building is a bit 'dated', (albeit being constantly updated), the important features of the care home are very impressive. The cleanliness, outstanding cooking (all done on-site in their own kitchen and high-quality fresh food, changes daily with excellent chefs) are all high quality along with the entertainment, warmth and management and housekeeping, but the most outstanding feature is the care. The genuine affection, love, care and attention shown to my mum since her arrival in June '23 has been exemplary.
The first thing that gets mentioned is food. Excellent home cooking that I have seen and smelt and my mother absolutely loved it and started eating things she had said in the past she said she didn't eat. The car park is accessed from the street and allows time to gain access to the building as it is secure and you also have to be let out by staff. There appeared to be enough staff (I'm no expert) and the staff are very compassionate and even the cooks and cleaners knew the names of residents and appeared to engage when opportunities allowed. I noticed that the daughter of a long-term resident knew the names of all the staff which, to me, indicates a low staff turnover and so most beneficial to residents. No TVs in rooms but noticed there were aerial connections and some people had TVs so assumed had been taken in for them. Perhaps one suggestion would be to have a checklist in patient rooms that includes even the basics as we realised her teeth were not cleaned for a few days.
Very impressed with the high standard of care given to my aunt during her short-term stay at Homer Lodge Care Centre. Staff always cheerful and helpful and ready to make sure the residents receive the very best of care. From the senior management down, standards in my opinion are top-notch.
All staff were extremely kind and considerate, the accommodation was good, the food was good, well cooked and presented, the care workers were all very knowledgeable and the physiotherapy department was excellent. I wish them well in the future, and have my full support too.
My husband was admitted to this far below standard Care Home. We can honestly say that the attention from the staff was brief and he had to wait a very long time when he called for attention of a personal nature. Personal hygiene of a morning was scanty and I had to attend to this myself. Most of the staff were pleasant but we felt needed more in-depth training to achieve the standard of care that they were expected to deliver. Communication was pretty much nonexistent. A complaint to the Area Manager took three days for a result and I had to ask for the outcome. My husband was not given the opportunity to explain his side and it was dismissed. He was mortified to have not been believed. The entire home is far from clean in all areas, which we found very distasteful and there was a very unpleasant odour throughout. I hope no one else has to suffer the way my husband did as it has had a very traumatic effect on his life. Needless to say, he is now home and happy with his loving family.
The staff took care of me on all matters. The food is good most of the time. Staff are mainly caring most of the time.
Homer Lodge Care Centre staff have looked after my husband with kindness and respect. They are a very friendly team, mostly young people who are a credit to their generation. The more mature staff have also treated us as a family visiting Homer Lodge with kindness and understanding. Well done each and every one of you.
Excellent care. The manager and his team are excellent and give great care and support.
