View Full Details of Madeira House Residential Care HomeI came to visit my Father from New Zealand and was pleased with what I witnessed. Clean home, no smells, nice caring staff that try hard to give each resident what they need. My Father has settled and seems happy enough and his room was clean and tidy. He likes the food. The building needs an upgrade but it is well looked after and maintained.
Sadly our experience of Madeira House care home hasn't been a positive one. Our loved one has often been neglected; lack of care and compassion. Many issues with members of staff and management. On many occasions our relatives personal care has not been satisfactory, drinks weren't always available and the general cleanliness was poor. The home seem to offer many activities for the more abled residents but hugely lacking in care all round. Some staff have been helpful and genuinely care but others don't appear to have the correct training and skills needed.
Needs updating (which they are in the process of doing) No disabled toilet. The staff are extremely good, helpful and smiley. Very clean. The activity staff are amazing, taking you shopping and activities. One lady is a real help. The food is excellent - very good cook and plenty of it.
I am very happy with the care staff. Glad to see the building is finally being upgraded and they have been keeping on top of the garden. I am always informed if there is a problem and can tell the staff genuinely care about the residents. Entertainment is improving again, which is good. Food is also improving. The yellow tops are awful, it would be nicer for the staff to have the older colours.
Mum is settled and happy in Madeira House. The staff are very good with her and the manager is always there if we have any questions or issues. On attending the visitors and relatives meeting I feel confident that the manager and the team have plans to improve things. You can see that the building needs some improvement but things are starting to get done. Mum told me that the staff are her new extended family. Please keep up the good work team.
Very good. Caring.
Still waiting for a refund for nearly £2500 of overpaid fees, 80 days after my father died after the promised payment period came and went. Communications are awful, emails are ignored. The home staff are lovely people who do their level best to care for the residents, but badly underfunded and considering the home fees came to £1100 a week, the home is very run down.
I was admitted to Madeira House Residential Care Home for rehabilitation (after a leg injury) during October to December 2023. Right from the start, I was totally impressed by the pleasant and relaxed surroundings and particularly grateful for the warmth and compassion of the care staff. Thinking back on my own career as a university lecturer, I greatly appreciated the professional dedication, attention and commitment of all those involved in the well-being of the residents (including cleaning ladies and ancillary staff). The quality of the food and catering was excellent. I have absolutely no hesitation in completely recommending Madeira House to potential future residents.
During my stay at Madeira House, the staff have been fantastic. The care has been great and this is all the staff, they have been considerate and caring and nothing was too much trouble. They have helped me become mobile and independent and this has made it possible to return home. The only things that reduced the stars were the food was not always great and a little monotonous. The only other thing was my room sometimes was cold, they always offered me blankets it was mentioned to move to a different room which was down by the lounges and dining room, but would have been noisy while the room I was nice and quiet which is how I liked it.
My work colleague was admitted here after a fall at home and she always says how nice the staff at the home are and nothing is ever too much trouble. We are hoping she will be home soon with all the help of the staff.
All the staff are fantastic at this care home and always go above and beyond for everyone. The activities team are fabulous, always trying their best to put on events for the people that live at the home. I am retired now, but it warms my heart to be able to donate to the home and give back to the residents.
I am so grateful to the staff team and manager at Madeira House. They have provided great support to my mum and have always been really supportive and caring. Since new the new management have begun work it’s been great to see the positive changes around the home. The home has started to feel like a home and not just a care home. Thank you all so much for the hard work you do and a big thank you to the manager for being so approachable and caring. Seeing Mum happy means the world to me and my family.
Such a shame to hear the news that the manager is leaving, she truly is one of a kind and has brought Madeira House up from the ground. She is so kind and compassionate with everyone and there is no one that could replace her, can’t thank her enough for looking after my nana, but also our whole family at the same time. Madeira House will not be the same without you.
Overall I am quite happy with the care home. It is quite run down and needs a lot of updating. My mum's room is very poor. The staff and manager are lovely. The food is very good. There have been a few occasions where the care could be better.
I would like to express my sincere thanks to the manager and staff. I was conversing with the manager from Australia in relation to the care of my uncle. The manager was amazing, extremely patient, helpful and understanding. I have since returned to UK and have found the staff at the care home to be extremely professional and caring. I cannot speak highly enough of the manager and her staff. Thank you.
My father came to Madeira House in October 2021 with various health issues and needed full-time care. I had no doubts he was well looked after in every way and nothing was ever too much for the staff. As we live over 200 miles away it was so important for us to be kept up to date on a regular basis and they always did this. As well as this being a beautiful home, the staff are outstanding. I spoke regularly with two members of staff and felt so comfortable knowing they were caring for my dad. The manager is lovely - if ever you need to place a relative in a home for permanent or short-term care I cannot recommend Madeira House enough.
I was very unsure of choosing Maderia House as we had had a very unpleasant time there 20 years ago with my grandma. After visiting the home in December 2021 I was more than happy for my mother-in-law to reside there. The home was welcoming, bright, clean and didn't smell. The staff, especially the manager, were amazing in our short time there. We can't than them enough for the care and support they gave - thank you.
My mother has been in Madeira for two and a half years now with dementia and I can only say I am so pleased we picked this home for her. She is so well cared for, nothing is too much trouble for the staff and they are so friendly. They have made myself and my siblings at ease with having had to make the daunting choice to place mum in a home, they truly are caring. I am always kept up to date with anything that may crop up no matter how trivial it may seem and the staff are always there to help me with any queries I may have and point me in the right direction if I feel I need to talk to anyone at the home or outside should it be the doctors or adult social care. I can honestly say I would not want mum to go anywhere else and would happily recommend Madeira to anyone who feels it is time to have a loved one placed into a care home.
Very good, the staff are very helpful. Overall experience is very good.
Top class, best ever.
