View Full Details of Thornton Lodge Care HomeMy Brother seems happy here and overall we are satisfied.
My father was transferred to Thornton Lodge in the middle of the pandemic in 2020. I went to visit my father in the pod and recently, over the weekend in the care home. He has always seemed really settled in this care home and still does even though he is in poor health. The care home have proven to me that his care is the most important task to them, and when he has been admitted to hospital on many of occasions, they have discussed with me before or after his admissions. The staff are friendly and always have the time to discuss my father with me and that makes me feel he is in good hands in their care.
I found the staff very friendly and helpful. The home is very clean and staff are always ready to answer questions if I need to know anything. The only problem I have is not seeing my husband's room, due to Covid measures, so I cannot answer the ratings for what I think of his room.
My uncle has been here roughly 12-weeks, and in that time, I find the staff very approachable. However, I understand they are busy, but I find it hard to get through to talk to my uncle sometimes; it's been a few days before I could get through.
So grateful to all the staff at Thornton Lodge. Looking after my 86-year-old mother, who has dementia, incontinence, hearing and sight problems. The staff take great care of her, treat her as if she were a member of their own family. They constantly talk to her, listen to all her stories, make sure she is active, and since being there, she has been able to walk with a bit of help, which before she moved into the home, she could not do. She is happy here, and I would have no problem recommending someone to use this home if they need to. The staff are really friendly, always happy to see you when we can go for a visit, and keep you informed about things, especially during this very difficult time of Covid19. The staff have been really great during this time, making sure the residents have been looked after, and the families up to date with all the current guidelines. They have taken away all the worries and doubts I had about placing my mother in a care home rather than try and look after her myself.
The change in my mother has been astounding since coming to Thornton Lodge. Her previous nursing home was awful. She was deteriorating and it was a very difficult time. Seeing her looked after so well, washed and cared for. Has been a Godsend. The general managers and all the staff are brilliant. Thank you so much.
Father admitted in July on the fast track for end of life care. I was initially worried as you hear stories about care homes but he has settled well, likes the food and staff and has always been treated with dignity. Staff are friendly and caring not the most luxurious building with biggest rooms but improvements are always being made and the charges are not as high as some but it is the care which is most important and I cannot fault that. I am aware that there are activities but as my father has limited mobility and likes to stay in his room, I cannot rate these. Occasionally, his call button hasn't been pushed in properly. When I went to view the home, I had not made an appointment but was welcomed in and shown around the premises.
My stepmother has been a resident for approx two years. She has been very happy since moving into the home. The recent refurbishment has been very well done and it's a pleasure, as I look forward to my visits to my relative. The staff and residents are extremely happy and cheerful, I have made some significant friendships within the home.
My Dad has got dementia and was recently moved into this home because another home he had been placed in, for only a short time, stated they were unable to meet his needs (a complete turn around from when he was admitted). The other home looked far superior as it had just been refurbished and I was, naively, taken in by this which is why he went there. I now realise you have to look beyond the facade. Thorton Lodge is in a different league in its care of my father and knows exactly what to do to defuse his anxiety and confusion (something the other home didn’t do although they claim to offer dementia care!) The carers here are welcoming, efficient and seem totally genuine in their care with the residents. Some of the areas/furniture etc are a bit tired looking but it’s the care they offer that’s important and this far outweighs the look!
My sister was admitted to Thornton Lodge in September 2017 and we are happy with the care and staff that look after her. The difference in her every time I come has and is improving. We are very happy with the care she is getting. She has an en-suite room with garden view and the food is good and to her standard. We are able to talk to management and the owner whenever we wish.
From the very first phone call to Thornton Lodge we were greeted with enthusiasm and respect. My father has been looked after with all the care I would give him if he was living with me. Also, the administration is efficient. We are shown care records whenever we ask about appointments and continuing care plan. The staff have asked us about my Dad's interests and life history and also have talked to us about plans for the future. This home provides excellent all round care for residents and their families and friends.
Following a short stay in hospital, social services assessed mum's and it was agreed that she needed 24 hour care. Since moving into Thornton Lodge I have seen an improvement in her general health and social interaction with myself. She is calmer and in general, is very happy with her surroundings. She enjoys the food, having her hair and nails done. We feel much happier with mum having 24 hour care and that she is safe and well cared for.
My mother was previously living at home. Unfortunately, following a couple of falls she had been bed bound for a few weeks and her physical, psychological and emotional health and well-being were deteriorating rapidly. Despite home carers visiting 4 times a day, plus regular family attendance and a night nurse, she was not improving. Both my mother and I, therefore, decided that 24-hour care was appropriate. Since moving into Thornton Lodge, my mother's physical, psychological and emotional health and well-being have improved astonishingly. She is happy, conversant and better cared for than she has been in long while. The care, commitment and dedication of the staff and their attention to the residents is exemplary. I would highly recommend this home to anyone.
My father has been here for just under 2 years. My dad had been in sheltered accommodation but his health required full-time care as his wife had been hospitalised. Caron the Manager was able to admit him almost immediately and the staff could not have been more helpful. This home was recommended by a family member whose wife was already a resident. He is well cared for and the staff regularly assess his health and care needs.
Mum's been at Thornton Lodge Care Home since Sept 2016 and we can really see an amazing improvement in mum. The staff are so friendly and caring, always have a cheery word for the residents and their family. There's something on for the residents most weeks and everyone gets involved. We as a family feel happy and secure that our precious mammy is been cared for when we can't be there. From the owner, manager, to the cleaning staff, I can say all are so thoughtful and caring. Happily recommend Thornton lodge to everyone.
Thornton Lodge is currently caring for our mother. It was the hardest decision we as a family have ever had to make in our lives. The owner, manager and all the staff there went out of their way to ease our distress at the time. Their approach to the level of care provided is consistent, caring and empathic towards all the residents. They strive to maintain the dignity of our mother at all times. They are intuitive to her needs and so very patient during difficult times. The staff appear to really care for our mother over and beyond it being their job. Nothing is too much trouble for anyone and they are at all times eager to meet the ever unfolding needs of our mother, as with the other residents. The home is clean and well maintained. Food is constantly on offer and individual needs/likes catered for. The calm ambience and emotional warmth provided to our mother maintains stability and reduces many of her anxieties. So appreciative ALL of the staff at Thornton Lodge.
After 3 months in a different nursing home lying flat on her back, mum was transferred to Thornton Lodge. After 24 hours mum was up in a wheelchair having breakfast and lunch with other residents. After 3 days mum was staying up for tea. After a week she had had a bath and tried walking. She was now using a commode or toilet rather than a bedpan. After a week and a half, she was taken on a trip out. She regularly gets involved with the daily activities all after being told she wasn't capable of moving. Thank you!
Although my family visits were infrequent, we always felt very welcome and listened to by all of the staff. The personal approach was very helpful and we felt reassured by key members, nursing staff, owner, manager, GP etc that our uncle was cared for with genuine respect and dignity for his situation. The premises needs a lot of improvements but this was never hidden. I cannot comment on my uncles daily routine of care other than he always spoke of Thornton Lodge as his home which I know he wouldn't be able to say had he not been cared for properly.
Thornton Lodge is a friendly homely environment for my uncle. He is treated with respect and is happy there. The staff are very good and kind with all the residents despite being very difficult at times.
Staff at the care home have always treated my Mother in a compassionate and dignified manner, and appear to develop authentic supportive and caring relationships with the residents. I have also found management both approachable and easy to talk to, and have felt listened to whenever issues have come up. Now that the home have employed an activities coordinator there are more opportunities for stimulation, which is especially important for my Mother, who suffers with dementia. I look forward to this role growing, and welcome increasing variety of activities on offer. The inner decor is currently under refurbishment, and is already starting to look both brighter and cleaner.
