View Full Details of Derwent Lodge Nursing HomeDad moved to Derwent in December 2024 due to health review , staff at Derwent were welcoming and warm from the beginning not only to dad but us as his family. He was treated with dignity care and compassion, always greeted with a smile and time to not only see to his needs but to generally chat with him and us . Dad's care was above and beyond what we expected, he was kept warm, clean and plenty of refreshments on hand. Sadly we lost dad on 25th January 2025 and he was continued to be treated with the dignity and respect he deserved. Thank you all at Derwent.
My father came to Derwent Lodge from hospital after being admitted from home (with carers) in Feb 2024. It was such a relief to see he was treated with dignity and respect despite some challenging behaviour at times. At last he was in a safe environment where he was given proper meals, kept clean and regularly checked. He stayed there until he passed away at the beginning of September 2024. Throughout this time he needed to be referred to a number of external agencies and various changes in needs and meds were necessary. Most of this went smoothly although there were occasions when I needed to chase for information rather than being contacted with updates by phone. The carers and nurses were all approachable and friendly - they quickly got to know my dad and his likes and dislikes. This broke down somewhat when agency staff were needed to cover. Entire place was clean throughout. Overall I would recommend. Bring back the entertainment though - the other residents loved it.
Emergency respite had to be arranged quickly for my husband who has Huntington's. I was struggling to cope and he had never been in a care home, we were both so frightened about this but also knew we couldn't carry on as we were. He stayed in Derwent Lodge for 2 weeks whilst a care package was put in place. From the moment we walked through the door we found it to be so welcoming and friendly, from the receptionist to all of the front-line care staff, chef and cleaner. Everyone was so kind and looked after my husband so well. This was such a relief as I was worried about leaving him initially, but felt reassured by how warm and welcoming everyone was. I got to know the manager who is very approachable. Having worked in the care sector most of my life I could see that the positive culture in the home comes from her, she is very caring and has respect for everyone. Her staff are very happy in their jobs, that speaks volumes I think about how the residents are treated.
Relatively new here, so still finding our feet as such. So far so good.
Having only been a resident for 3 weeks we have limited experience of the home but up to now have found it excellent with staff very helpful and spotlessly clean at all times so a good start! Nearly all newly decorated and a lovely new furnishings.
My sister has been removed from this home 29/07/2024. She was neglected so badly that I got authorities in. Mental health and adult social care, I would not recommend this home to anyone. The pictures I have of the care she didn't receive and the conditions she was in were disgusting. My sister was end of life and treated very poorly. It was heartbreaking. I did report to CQC the staff and management are rude and arrogant. My sister is in hospital with very large spleen and chest pains. The home was told she was in pain and did nothing and kept the door shut so no one would see the state of her. No one ever bothered to sit and talk to her, but now she is safe clean and cared for 24 hours. The proof I have of the conditions she was in is disgusting.
I have previously submitted a review and this one covers the new management. The new manager has made improvements in the overall care standards. The room is not well organised in terms of layout. The ensuite door does not close for privacy. Activities are currently very poor. They were previously excellent. There was a "buzz" before now nothing. The quiz continues due to one resident's skills. Liaison with relatives/Next of Kin - is not often followed up. The laundry is outstandingly good. The care staff are kind.
Very welcoming and friendly atmosphere where one feels at ease. The staff are most approachable with one feeling if any concerns are easily seen to.
My mum came to live here last month. The home is lovely with lots of activities for the residents to join in with. All the staff are lovely and caring and my mum is shown dignity and respect at all times. The new management team have improved things a lot since taking over. Care plans are in place and referred to, to ensure the correct care is given. I'm very happy my mum is at this home.
My parents had to suddenly go into care and I was a little worried about how they would adapt to such a major lifestyle change from independent living. However, the friendly and helpful staff have helped them settle far better than I expected and I am very pleased with the care and support they have received in the home. There is a real community spirit and a genuine desire to please.
Derwent Lodge is a well-run, friendly place which has my Mum's best interests at heart. The staff are very caring and attentive and she loves getting involved in all the many activities they regularly have. My mum is very happy at Derwent Lodge.
I find Derwent Lodge to be the best place that my brother could be in. The staff are wonderful and caring, nothing is too much trouble for them. He enjoys the food. His room is always clean and he feels comfortable. There are plenty of activities for the residents to enjoy. Whenever I visit the atmosphere feels calm and welcoming.
I visit my brother most weeks at least once. Every time I have been there I have been greeted with a smile and a wave, by the staff who always seem to be busy looking after the resident. I have not seen anything that would make me anxious about my brother's care.
My dad is so happy here. He has been living here for just under a year and he feels so at home. The staff couldn't be more lovely and willing to help my dad in every aspect. Thank you all at Derwent Lodge.
My mother is happy and settled at Derwent Lodge. She is well looked after and due to the good food and the excellent care that she receives, she is in better health now than when she lived at home. I can say in all honesty that every single one of the staff is smiley, friendly and helpful. It is very reassuring to know that they are unfailingly cheerful and kind towards my mum. Both staff and management are ready and willing to listen to any enquiries or concerns. The lady who organises the activities is always jolly and raises everyone's spirits. The residents love her. She was born to do that job! The nurses are very professional and manage medication efficiently. They know the residents well but will always be on the side of caution if they have concerns. At such times, communication with family members is good and I always feel that I have a say in her treatment. When I say goodbye to Mum after visiting, I feel I am leaving her in safe hands.
Staff very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Clean and tidy doing what they say they will do. There are good activities available nearly every day but a lot seem to be animal related. I only say this as Mum being a country girl has never been enthusiastic about animals! I feel the premises restricts the staff and residents but appreciate there is nothing that can be done about that. There is always a member of staff to hand to call on and they are willing to be multi-functional.
This home has changed my nan's life. She seems to have come alive with the brilliant care and activities available. The staff are so caring and all the residents have the chance to be involved in afternoon activities and day trips out. She seems so much happier and feels safer as she is surrounded by other people and if she becomes unwell the staff are able to get her checked over by a doctor. When we visit the atmosphere is very friendly and relaxed and the residents look well cared for. I think Derwent Lodge is an amazing home that cares well for its residents and enables relatives to relax knowing that their loved ones are being well looked after.
I came to see my uncle and the home is friendly. The home does not smell of food or urine and the residents all look clean and tidy. They could do with a bigger TV in the lounge. My uncle seems happy. A member of staff, in particular, is very friendly and good with the residents, very attentive with my uncle.
My brother recently spent four weeks at Derwent Lodge for respite care. During his time there, I found the care he received to be excellent, all the staff were very welcoming, friendly and attentive throughout. The premises itself is in a lovely position overlooking the river, is clean, well managed and cared for with regular social events for residents. Going forward, I would be very happy for my brother to move there full-time in the future if his needs dictate.
My partner has been there for eleven days and from the start to finish all staff were very professional. I just want to say a big thank you to everybody who kept my partner happy and safe.
