View Full Details of Hoylake CottageA very well-run place. Staff are always friendly and helpful. Residents always appear relaxed and content. Everywhere is clean and tidy. Food is always plentiful and well-presented with good choices. We find it reassuring that we can visit at any time. Lots of social activities for residents.
No-where better. As others have commented it is so very difficult negotiating the difficult decisions when finding a home for much loved ones. I can honestly say that my father has been looked after as though he was part of a family within Hoylake Cottage. The staff have done their utmost to safely care for all aspects of my dad's medical and emotional needs. They've been quick to ensure he has accessed hospital and external medics when the times have needed it. They've supported us as a family. But more importantly, Dad enjoyed his relationships with all the staff here and he too was impressed with the care he had. This was our third experience of nursing care. He would not have lasted as long as he did had he remained in the others. He had 14 months here before ending his life here. That was dealt with so compassionately and it felt so natural. All the staff - no matter what they do. Are approachable, calm and know the residents so well. And the place is spotless!
My wife has been in residence at Hoylake Cottage for about 16 months now, since it became impossible for me to care for her safely at home due to the advancing effects of her Alzheimer's. The decision to move her into care after 50 years of marriage is the most difficult and traumatic decision anyone in my situation will ever have to make, so it was very important to make the best choice. Hoylake certainly was the best choice. One has to just spend half an hour there to sense the love, compassion and professionalism of all the staff who are involved in my wife's care and of all the other residents. It's striking how every person is treated with total respect, dignity and compassion by all staff members and it's quite evident to me that my wife, despite the ravages of her condition, loves all of them. The whole place feels so happy. Thank you Hoylake.
Found my father in pain on three occasions, but no one took any notice of his calls for help. Found filthy duvet thrown on top of wardrobe. Staff are rude and not doing what they should be doing. I could not get in at the door waited for twenty minutes, went round the side, a gate was open and security is terrible.
I cannot express enough immense gratitude for all the staff particularly Nurse and the staff on the Dementia Unit. My dad was so well cared for up until he passed away on the 21st March. Those few days before his death were made easier by the phenomenal care and attention that my dad received and the outstanding support that they gave to us as a family. Dad had only been in the home for less than two years, but even with his advanced dementia, it was evident that he was happy and well cared for and felt comfortable with all the staff. Thank you all so very much for making such a difficult time more bearable. You truly are all angels.
My mum has been resident at Hoylake Cottage for over 3 years. During this time she has been extremely well looked after even when she can be demanding. The care, love and compassion shown to her is excellent. She is always dressed appropriately and looks lovely. The laundry staff keep her clothes washed and ironed beautifully The food overall is very good with a varied choice of meals but could do with being hotter. Her room is always clean and smells lovely as is the rest of the home. Domestic staff are excellent. The staff are friendly and approachable and listen to any concerns I may have. They do an excellent job with good humour and a genuine commitment to the residents. The entertainment to stimulate the residents is improving after Covid. However, I feel there needs to be more than one person. To allow for different activities to take place at the same time. The staff have also been very supportive to myself during some stressful times because of Covid.
All the staff at Hoylake Cottage - both the day care centre, residential and administrative staff are so incredibly supportive and helpful. I wouldn't have got through the last 6 months without their support - I'd suddenly, unexpectedly lost my dad, and in the midst of grief was trying to care for my mum with advanced dementia. Mum's health has significantly stabilised since moving there - she is so obviously so very well looked after and cared for. She loves all the staff and they love her. She is brighter, calmer and generally just looks so much better than when me and Dad were trying to care for her by ourselves. Everyone who visits mum also raves about the staff and how happy and well mum looks. Honestly I couldn't have wished for a better place for mum to be. She has been gardening, learning a new language, dancing, crafting and they even moved a piano to her floor so that she could continue to play the piano. A wonderful care home with 'care' at its heart.
Thanks to Hoylake Cottage my mother is still alive. She was sent here with a few weeks to live and 18 months later, thanks to the excellent nursing care she has received, she is still with us and is happy. The care home is always clean and bright and the decorations made for Easter, Christmas etc are amazing. The staff are, in the main, attentive and efficient. The food is excellent and adapted to the needs of each resident. My mother is always clean and her incontinence needs are always attended to. The staff anticipate her needs well and she appears to be well looked after. The senior staff are attentive and communication is good. They have helped us as psychologically to deal with my mother’s illness when she was at her most delicate. Since Covid they are trying to get more activities organised for residents which is necessary to stop boredom and increase sociability. I would like my mother to take part in more activities to stimulate her social skills and mental health
My father had been a resident at Hoylake Cottage for around 2 years. He came to the home with advanced dementia and as a family, we wanted a better place for Dad than previous homes. We certainly got that. The care and compassion that my dad got was absolutely fantastic. You could tell he was happy and well cared for with such a high degree of professionalism that could not be faulted. Last week our father took a turn for the worse and sadly passed away. The care he received was amazing and the compassion from all the staff towards my dad and the family was unbelievable. There is no praise high enough that we could pass on to everyone at Hoylake Cottage, thank you just doesn’t seem good enough. Such an unbelievable group of people. Truly touched by all they did for dad and our family. Thank you
The staff-to-resident ratio is very good. They are very gentle and caring and are always on the lookout for any problems. They made a super effort to help my spouse celebrate a birthday.
The staff are exceptional. All very caring, approachable and understanding. Nothing is too much trouble. Mum is allowed her own furniture and room made to feel homely. I was delighted that visiting is allowed anytime by the entrance code. This, to me, shows they have nothing to hide. Concerns are acted upon promptly This is a care home I would highly recommend.
For the time my dad has been at Hoylake Cottage hospital he has been treated like family. The care is great and the staff are very competent and kind. During the pandemic, they have ensured we have been kept up to date with his care.
I could not fault Hoylake Cottage, from my first contact with their business manager - who was very supportive and kind to me even before my godfather was admitted - to all the members of the ground floor staff who looked after him with great kindness and respect. I was kept informed of his progress, which was vital to me as visiting was inevitably restricted and I do not live local to Hoylake. Although, he was there on a respite basis, thanks to the care he received he began to consider permanent residence. However, he succumbed to another chest infection and passed away, two of the staff attended his funeral. A wonderful care home.
Mum has been a resident at Hoylake Cottage for over 5 and a half years. During this time, staff have provided a consistently high standard of care, ensuring that the environment is clean, safe, relaxed and friendly. Since March 2020 throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, all staff in the organisation - nursing, domestic, catering and management, have gone above and beyond their duties to keep residents safe and well at a very uncertain and distressing time. Their dedication is exceptional and deserves to be formally recognised. We cannot thank the staff enough for what they have done and continue to do.
Excellent.
I am extremely grateful to the Hoylake Cottage staff for looking after and keeping my 95-year-old mother safe. They have been amazing during the very difficult year and have remained cheerful and dedicated to their work. I have given top marks as I would have no hesitation in recommending Hoylake Cottage. Due to Covid restrictions and to keep residents safe activities have had to be limited which I understand. When my mother came to Hoylake Cottage she had had 2 strokes and sepsis and I believe that the care she has received has saved her life. Well done to all the staff.
My father has been a long term resident and has always received very high-quality nursing care. Nurses, carers, visiting and entertainment staff are always available and easy to approach. The home has had many challenges over the past year but has always prioritised resident care and safety showing high levels of commitment.
Excellent nursing home, staff are caring and conscientious. They keep our family totally up to date with what is going on with my mother's condition and treatment. They have a totally holistic view of care with my mother and family. Thank you to them all.
The general standard of care is reasonable. The staff appear to be under pressure. There is a complete lack of activities to stimulate residents. Dehydration is a major concern - drinks are provided but some residents need prompting and help to drink. I have major concerns regarding privately funded residents vs local authority funded clients. There is a huge disparity which seems unfair.
Staff are attentive, professional and always available. My mum has been here for three months, and I have never had any concerns about her wellbeing. I am confident my mum is in excellent hands. Across all the shifts of nurses and carers, the high standard is maintained. Despite the 'comparative' high cost, I feel this is excellent value for money. I have complete peace of mind.
