View Full Details of Whitby HouseMum has been here for a while after a spell in hospital and having left another home. The staff all go out of their way to show great kindness, compassion, and support to both residents and their families. I can't praise them enough for their attention to her care. The overall environment, level of attention to detail, food, etc. is high. Nothing is too much trouble. It has a calm, steady, upbeat feel.
The home is very well run. Staff are friendly and caring, and respect residents. The home is lovely and clean, the food is all home-cooked and all residents have choices for food. I feel my mum is very well cared for and the staff do a fantastic job.
A very friendly home with the staff all very helpful. My mum's room is great, big and with a television. Overall I and my family are happy that our mum is being looked after well. The home is very clean and the meals are good and my mum really enjoys them. Regular visits by staff to the residents in their rooms, and good they have time to talk.
Dad at first wanted to go home but now has settled, he wasn’t eating much but since he’s been in the home he has started to eat a little more. The staff are really nice and cheerful, always popping in to check on all the residents. Nothing is too much trouble for anyone. We can see the difference in Dad, we sit him in his room having a laugh and the carers are always about checking on the residents. Dad is now happy and content.
Dad is happy the staff is friendly and kind Dad feels safe and is well cared for. Lots of choices on the menu always something he likes. All staff are very friendly with the family when we visit they are always available to speak to. The most important thing for us is that they all respect Dad and give him their best.
The team at Whitby House work hard and it shows. Dad is very well cared for. His room is clean and he enjoys all his meals. We are always welcomed as visitors and will forever be grateful for the kindness and care everyone gives and for looking after Dad's needs better than we can now.
Absolutely disgusting! My Aunt was placed here direct from the local hospital under a medical need. She arrived Thursday afternoon, I sought immediately an alternative care home, because of the poor condition of the room and the smell. She remained in bed for the duration of her stay until the following Tuesday. Her hair was never brushed, teeth were never cleaned. If she didn't complete her food as she's a slow eater they removed it, no matter what and was subjected to sitting in her own excrement because they never responded to her calls for the toilet. The commode was dirty and unstable. The staff were told she was bedbound so never moved her, which wasn't the case, she just had limited mobility. This care home charges £1360 per week. My Aunt was self-funding, I wouldn't put a rabid dog in there. All equipment and furniture needs updating and an overall deep clean and painted. Larchwood Homes should be very ashamed it's disgusting.
My husband has now been in Whitby House for four years and during this time I have found the care to be very good. He needs a hoist and two carers to be moved from bed to chair or wheelchair etc but the staff are great and he is always clean and tidy, as is his room. He enjoys the food, which is also very good. There is a very nice lounge for entertainment and activities for the residents to enjoy and is used daily. If any problems do arise the staff are very approachable and things soon get sorted out.
I visited an elderly friend of the family here the other day and I was quite shocked about how pleasant the whole experience was, to be honest! The place was well kept and tidy and the staff were so friendly and kind, they even offered me tea and biscuits! It seemed as if the residents were very well looked after, they catered for their every need, they even had a live singer on in the lounge which they all seemed to love, I love it when they do that, you know that they are making sure they are not getting bored! I would highly recommend this care home to friends and family.
Dad is well looked after and is doing well. I appreciate all the staff and their loving attitude towards Dad. A special shout out to the entertainment director. A very special lady.
Our Aunt is happy here as it has got that home from home feeling. Throughout the lockdown, we have been able to keep in touch by Whatsapp which has been great and we can see that she is OK. There are plenty of activities but it's up to her, whether she joins in or not. She can be a bit challenging, at times but the staff try and cater to all her needs. They are like one big happy family. The food is good and it is a really friendly place.
I have been most impressed that through this awful year everybody has experienced, this nursing home has remained free from COVID-19. All the staff I have come into contact with have been the most caring and decent people. I fell comfortable my sister's needs are being met. She feels safe and comfortable here which is all that matters.
Our father has been in Whitby House for almost a year now and for the very start, we felt he had the nearest thing to his own home. He felt safe, well cared for, in professional and caring hands. The family felt supported and able to see him in his room or the communal lounge. The food has been excellent and adapted to his needs. Since the lockdown, although has been hard for families, we have had regular contact via video link and kept informed of his condition. We are now able to visit outside in the gazebo and garden. Very happy under the circumstances and hope to visit outside soon.
My mum is so happy here, which helps me to feel better when I leave her. Through the lockdown we have been able to keep in touch by Whatsapp which has been so comforting for me. There are plenty of activities, and it's up to her to join in, sometimes she just wants to stay in her room. They are like one big happy family. Food is good, staff cater for her needs. Nurses are approachable if you want to talk. Really friendly place.
It’s been a tough few months for everyone. But the added worry of having a parent in a care home has been eased for me significantly with my dad being in Whitby House. All of the staff have been fantastic and they have all done a wonderful job of keeping the residents safe and well.
I was aware of the good reputation of Whitby House, which is why it was top of my list, and I was elated when a room was available for my mum. The staff have saved my mum's life, mum was to be made comfortable in her last days in January. Mum is better than ever and going to the lounge and joining in with activities. The activities are excellent, and the staff even provide trips out. Whitby House has been excellent through the lockdown, and I can't thank them enough for providing relatives with a closed group Facebook page so we can all see pictures of our loved ones who are safe and well. I never worry about Mum because I know she is being cared for by staff who treat her like family and she is very happy there.
When your loved one moves to care home, you think no one can look after them better than family, the staff at Whitby House are family and care for them with love, care and professionalism.
I am very pleased with my aunties care at Whitby House although she may be difficult at times as she has dementia. The staff are caring and patient. The staff also include her in all activities and encourage her to join in. Overall, I am very pleased with her care.
I find the staff very friendly and helpful with nothing too much trouble.
I have been really pleased with the care given to Mum. Staff also show empathy to family and friends when visiting. All mum's needs have been met as her condition has deteriorated, especially how quickly the staff picked up on the fact that Mum needed to have pureed meals.
