View Full Details of Alston View Nursing & Residential HomeThe staff are always very approachable and very kind. I'm very happy with everything in the home. The staff are always very busy when we visit.
Our friend has been in Alston View Nursing & Residential Home for just over 5 weeks. We have found the management staff to be approachable and proactive in her care. They have actioned assessments and support from a range of external professionals. At this time, our friend's needs are being met by a team of caring and understanding staff.
I can only give a very limited assessment of staff and facilities at Alston View following a few short visits to a neighbour recently. The manager and members of his team who I have spoken to have all been very caring and professional. My neighbour is happy in their care. The manager came over as a very knowledgeable and professional person and with the staff under his leadership I am sure Alston View will provide an excellent service.
Do not let any relative of yours stay here even temporarily. My dad went in for respite care while his wife underwent an operation. During this time he went rapidly downhill. His room smelt of urine. Staff were not brushing his teeth. He had a urine infection which was left until he needed hospitalisation. Following this I spoke to the manager voicing my concerns which I was told would be addressed. I was informed a district nurse had dressed some 'dead skin' on his foot. A week later I was told my dad had had a fall whilst they put him to bed the night before. The following morning they rang an ambulance as it was a suspected broken foot. Once there we were told that he would have to have his leg amputated above the knee due to it being completely dead! Due to my dad's age and his now fragility, this was not undertaken and we have been told he has a few days before he dies.
I didn't choose this home for my mum. Due to her needs we needed to find her somewhere quickly. The reviews online were just OK. I have been pleasantly surprised. The home is lovely, Mum is always clean and she always has someone around her to help calm her when she is upset. The staff are lovely, helpful and knowledgeable. They are kind and patient with my mum. My mum has settled really well and is happy there. There is entertainment for the residents, a large communal lounge with two tellies and plenty going on. Food is also good quality and plenty to go around if more requested. I am so happy with the home. It takes a load off my mind knowing she is happy and being looked after.
Mum was a resident for over two years, each time we visited we were always made welcome and answered any questions we may have. Mum was always in clean clothes and her room was always clean and tidy. The staff treated her with respect and dignity. When mum was having a bad day staff would take time to reassure her and if needed staff could sit with her giving her comfort.
Such a lovely and positive home, the staff are amazing and really cared for my friend. The atmosphere here is fun, and loving and you just have a great time. I cannot thank you all enough for the changes you have made to my friend's life.
As a family, we are extremely grateful for the outstanding care and support you gave to Dad whilst in your care. You went above and beyond to accommodate him, showing empathy towards his advanced Alzheimer's. After a long hospital stay you delivered excellent personal care allowing him to regain dignity and the high level of heigene and appearance he always took pride in. Dad even commented on 'winning the lottery', he was so pleased with his lovely new environment.
In the small amount of time our dad has been at Alsron View, he is very happy and settled. The staff are wonderful and always very welcoming. Dad is clean and comfortable in his new surroundings. The activities are also brilliant. What a nice little place.
My partner loves it at Alston View; even though he has dementia, he always says that. I have found the staff and cleaners very friendly and helpful, and the caring is very good. I visit twice a week and have always found it peaceful. If I have a question, they will always answer me or have a problem with my partner; they always help.
Mum was very well looked after, I knew she was safe.
Alston View Nursing Home has been fantastic with my mother over the past few months. She is extremely happy when we visit which is two or three times a week. It is local and the nursing support she gets is great, the staff are caring and helpful. Mum is treated with dignity and respect. The facilities are suitable and extremely clean, we can't fault the home for everything they do for Mum. The room is spacious and the community area is welcoming and relaxed. Thank you.
I would just like to say that all the staff take good care of my father. And that they always welcome me and my sister with a warm welcome. He is looked after and from the cleaning staff and the Office Manager who I cannot fault, are so pleasant. I have known the staff for 2/3 years and I cannot fault them. The new manager is very pleasant. Thank you.
Disappointing culture where legitimate concerns over poor care were responded to with visiting restrictions (7.30 am to 3.30 pm only). Alston View and Gray Care Group (owners of Alston View) reacted to our genuine care complaints by arbitrarily restricting visiting times denying relative with dementia crucial after-work visits since 28th October. Cruel and thoughtless and nothing to do with covid. Attempted to visit one early evening and was turned away, the nurse in charge quoting the manager. Despite requests to remove restrictions, they remain in place and our emails to management and owners have been ignored. Termination of contract since given (thank goodness in our view). Totally appalling experience.
My mum has deteriorated massively in the four weeks she has been at Alston View and has already had a fall there, making her terrified of falling. She could stand and walk when she went in but now cannot currently do either. From day 1 we frequently found her alone in her room during the day distressed. She has been offered drink against her SALT diet guidelines putting her at risk of aspiration pneumonia/choking (now with safeguarding). The manager was helpful before admission but day one after admission has been defensive, even hostile and difficult. Do not put your relative into care at Alston View, some lovely carers but little concern from management for my relative, only their convenience. From walking & sharing company with others she is now depressed & now practically bed bound. Desperate to get a move.
My mother has been a nursing care resident since December 2018 and although there have been a few ups and downs along the way, we have always had confidence in Alston View. It would also be fair to say that there has been a dramatic improvement over past few months and I put this down to the open and transparent management style of the manager. Whenever I have concerns, she always finds time to speak to me and puts my mind at rest. I firmly believe the overarching principle of the management team is to ensure all residents are treated with the utmost respect, empathy and understanding and I am pleased to report that this sentiment is shared across the board and that all the staff consistently uphold these high standards. Most importantly, I would unreservedly recommend Alston View as a first-class nursing and residential home.
My dear Husband is in Alston View. The staff are an amazing team. They look after the care and dignity of the residents with kindness and compassion. I cannot thank the team enough for the amazing work they do. I would highly recommend this place.
Amazing care home with amazing staff and Manager. The care my sister gets is outstanding and nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff and Christmas activities have been great!
I would just like to say that this care is wonderful. They look after my brother so well and he is happy living there. I cannot thank all the staff enough.
Think the Nursing Home could 'up' their standards a little. My mother's room could benefit from cupboards being wiped along with bumper on side of the bed. Door handles need sorting been like that for 2 years! I feel sad to think that because she is bed-bound and not able to express herself then all these things do not matter. But they do. One carer last week fed my mother with a spoon and failed to wipe her face. I had to ask the carer to wipe it clean, which she did but with total disinterest. It's the basic kindness and care towards my mother is what I wish for but do not see much of this. There is much more I could say but things happen each time we visit and I come away upset.
