If you are looking for a care home for a relative I can highly recommend Gillibrand Hall. My sister and I had to make this decision 11 years ago and within the first two and a half years we removed her from two homes which were most unsatisfactory, but fortunately found Gillibrand Hall. My mum has happily lived here for 8 years now which speaks volumes for the environment the staff work hard to create and maintain and the fact that they have a real interest and compassion for their residents and family. Mum is in the late stages of Parkinson's disease, so requires a great deal of attention both medically and personally. The staff provide this with professional competency, kindness and respect of her dignity.
My husband went in hospital after a fall, were told only months to live. Discharged to a nursing home that had some good kind staff but not enough. My husband has dementia, had some accidents and split his head open three times falling so for safety he was in bed a lot of the time. In December he moved to Gillibrand Hall and we are impressed. The staff get him up every day. He sits in a chair. There is entertainment. He has been out several times for cake at a garden centre and to the local town followed by another town for donuts. He is now always clean-shaven and showered. Dining tables are set with clean tablecloth, place mats and vase of flowers. He has had manicures, spa bath, and always staff around all of which are kind lovely people who encourage people to join in with the music singing painting even the cleaners, maintenance and clerical staff are friendly and welcoming. My husband thinks he is at a hotel most of the time. Thank you to each and every one of you hard-working wonderful people.
My wife has been at Gillibrand over a year. At that time she was given 12 weeks to live, however, she is doing well. My wife is looked after very well and given good service. I can't thank the staff enough for all their hard work. I have given a 5 for the food and drink but my wife's condition leaves her unable to eat/drink.
24-hour phone number not always answered. Residents' buzzers noted to be beeping for many minutes without response. No buzzer or similar means of residents attracting attention when they need help during the day time. Many members of staff on an individual level are fabulous but actioning issues addressed has proven difficult. Radiators on the hottest day of the year and residents sat in front of these for long periods. Days out advertised but in actuality maximum of two residents can take part. Lobby is quite beautiful whilst other areas are dated and sometimes not as clean as they could be.
The home and staff are very caring and welcoming. Matron’s door is always open to ask/report any concerns or changes which need to be made. Requirements concerning medical and prescription requests for my mother, who is a diabetic and needs to feel that she can eat similarly to other residents and not feel excluded are difficult to manage when there are many sugary desserts on the menu, which she cannot have. The home is clean and tidy, staff endeavour to make activities fun and varied and encourage everyone to join in.
Very good home my dad does very well here as in past homes he was rejected because of his behaviour. My dad has been here for 5 years now so I think that speaks for itself. Staff are very good with him and in the past when he has been ill have made sure he was admitted to hospital.
I have visited the resident on many occasions since May this year and have never had any cause for concern. The staff and the care he receives is really very good and my sister has been welcomed every day as a visitor which is very important to her. I would recommend Gillibrand Hall to anyone needing the type of care they provide. I cannot comment on value for money.
The staff look after my grandma just like their own family. So caring and respectful, for example for her birthday they threw a huge celebration with cake, balloons, decorations and flowers. She is so happy living there.
I have spent a minimum of three hours every day for several months now visiting my husband in Gillibrand Hall Nursing Home and I am delighted with my observations during those visits. The staff are compassionate, conscientious, dedicated and friendly to both residents and their visitors. My husband has dementia plus other problems and is being very well cared for. Hence, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this home to anyone in similar circumstances.
A really nice spacious home in a great old stately home. A number of really open common rooms with high ceilings make the home look and feel open. The common rooms are bright and welcoming. The staff are really attentive and care for my mum. She has severe dementia and can be challenging, but the staff are patient and caring and help Mum get out into the common room so not in her room. Although my mum is challenging, the staff have taken mum out to local garden centres for coffee and cake. My mum has been in various care homes and has had to move to a nursing home due to dementia. Most homes are pokey, dark, 1970s look and feel. Gillibrand is large, spacious and with helpful and plenty of patient and caring staff.
My husband has come on leaps and bounds since being there, the staff are kind and hard-working, and nothing is too much trouble. He went in from the hospital unable to talk, and now he can make me understand things he needs, and the doctor even had a face time with him.
