View Full Details of Oakfield Nursing HomeI was there in early 2023. I found the place very welcoming and almost homely. The staff and nurses were very good and helpful. The carers could be a bit on the hit-and-miss side, waking you up at 7 am to check on your nappy/pad which you all had to wear in case of 'Accidents'! Overall I found my respite care stay to be very pleasant and will give the place 5 stars.
I simply can not speak highly enough of Oakfield. It is clearly an extremely well-led establishment, and that is evident as soon as you walk through the door or telephone the office. All the staff look and sound happy to be there, and that then rubs off on the residents, who all look happy and well cared for. All the staff know their residents well and put simply, they care! The home is spotlessly clean and smells fresh, and not how you could envisage a care home to smell. My mum has settled in tremendously well and is able to take part in a wide, varied range of activities. She is now able to enjoy her latter years again, and we are able to relax, knowing she is safe and happy. In short, Mum has her dignity back! Communication with the family has been great, and we are kept up to date, particularly during Covid, all decisions taken regarding visiting and restrictions have been the correct ones. The safety of the residents is the number one priority.
Very disappointed with the policies and dealings with Covid. The management seems to only want to protect themselves from litigation or criticism of their policy and implementation of measurements during the outbreak. The continued "lockdown" of patient, and, extremely draconian measurements are questionable at best. The guidelines by the government seem to be left behind, and the management seems to have made up rules which are neither balanced or in the best interests of the residents. There has been no reasonable communication to the families about proportion or the effects of these extreme measures and the length of them. Communication and support are necessary if residents interests are to be secured and supported. The home has, in my opinion, been very authoritarian and has not liaised or taken the relatives concerns into consideration.
The staff at Oakfield nursing home are second to none, you couldn't have better care workers, they couldn't do enough for me and my family which is greatly appreciated, I would recommend this care home to anyone looking for their loved one's care.
