View Full Details of Callands Care HomeMy mum loves it here she has been cared for and nursed back to health after a major op. The food is great the cleaning is excellent the carers nurses all staff have been exceptional! And she's never been so happy! - Mum's words. The new manager is making a great impression and positive changes to the home. If I could give a higher rating I would.
My dad has been in the home since September 2023. He is slowly but steadily declining which makes his care increasingly more complex. I am delighted with the level of care my dad receives. The staff are consistently jovial and very positive towards my father. Their professionalism is amazing. We cannot thank them enough for the difficult work they do, day in and day out.
Having had no experience of a care home setting we were very apprehensive about Mum moving to live there. However, from our first interaction with the staff we were put at ease and felt confident that she would be well looked after and kept safe. The team quickly picked up Mum's needs and worked out the best way to communicate and look after her. They were always prepared to listen to our views and ideas and made relevant changes to her care so that it was the best for her. Mum was happy, settled and treated with dignity, her personal care needs were always met. Her room clean and tidy, food OK and alternatives always offered. Medication given on time. The staff were absolutely amazing and built a strong bond with Mum. It was a fun and positive atmosphere but still maintained professionalism at all times. At the end of Mum's life the staff were there for both her and us and for that we are eternally grateful. We couldn't ask for a better team of people to look after our precious mum.
My mum was a resident at Callands Care Home for just over 12 months. She was very settled and happy there. She was always treated with dignity and kindness. Her room big, spacious, homely, clean and tidy. Her personal care needs were always met. Medication was given on time and the food was good. The team would always find an alternative if needed. As a family, we were always made welcome when we went to visit. The staff would answer any queries/concerns that we would have. They listened to our ideas and views in terms of Mum's care. For me, it was the staff who made my mum's time there so enjoyable and settled. It felt like a big family. The atmosphere was positive and fun, but the staff were always professional. At the end of Mum's life again the staff were there to offer support and care, not only for my mum, but also to us as a family. I cannot thank them enough for this.
Mother has been at Callands, on the Coniston unit for approximately 2 1/2 years. Initially, we were very pleased with the placement and the fact she was now receiving the care which her previous care home could not provide. When visiting, the staff are polite, respectful and friendly, but they are clearly run off their feet. There are just not enough of them, and the people who suffer are those they are caring for, as with any care home, no matter what the fees. There are items that will go missing like clothing and toiletries so one needs to keep an eye on these items. Anything more serious I would advise that you speak with management whom we found very approachable, and recently dealt with a few issues of ours quickly, and to our satisfaction. Since the recent CQC grading for Callands as a whole, I have seen a concerted effort by the organisation to improve things. In conclusion, a canopy over the front entrance would be welcome to protect visitors from the elements whilst waiting to gain entry and making contact with the relevant unit via the intercom.
My mother died on 12-2-24 and I cannot thank the staff enough for their care and support of me, my mum and my dear auntie and uncle. I always felt welcome by the staff and they listened and answered my questions with sensitivity. My parents were in the care system for 5 years and my advice to others entering the system is to work with the staff, they are your support, don't fret about clothes going missing, it doesn't matter. What matters is how they treat your parents/loved ones and my parents have been treated with the utmost respect and amazing care. The staff have taught me much and I thank you from the bottom of my heart each and every one of you and for the support during my mum's 'good death', amen.
Every time I visit, the atmosphere and the attitude of the staff is always really good. I can see my mum is very happy and well cared for.
On first entering the home, the staff are very welcoming and greet you as a friend. Everywhere is clean and tidy. The staff are very pleasant, kind and caring. Activities/games are posted on a board for the residents. Always a calm, warm atmosphere. I have no concerns regarding the care given to my sister. A big thank you to all the staff!
Excellent.
All very good. My wife moved to Callands in 2017 and has improved.
The staff are very supportive/professional. My mum has always been cared for and safe at Callands, every time I visit she is happy. I was shocked to see the CQC report in a local newspaper - with so many horrible comments - 99% of people couldn't do the job the staff do! She's always clean and the food's lovely. As is the activity lady who does my mum's nails. The staff and management didn't deserve to be plastered on social media.
I have been very satisfied with teh care my husband receives. He is always clean, his bedding is always clean, and he is regularly checked. The staff are always cheerful, friendly and polite. He is happy staying in the privacy of his room, although the carers do try to persuade him to go to the lounge or dining room. They work very hard.
Mum is on Ullswater wing of this care home receiving end-of-life care. From the first day Mum came here, all the staff are amazing and exceptional at providing high-level care for our loved ones. All the staff are friendly and respectful and very helpful. You can see that the staff take pride in their work and caring for their patients. We know Mum doesn't have long and we couldn't have wished for a better place. All the staff here are angels. A very big thank you to all the staff, you truly are all amazing.
The staff at Callands Care Home are all friendly and helpful and seem to be taking good care of my aunt. So far, we are pleased with the care being provided - thank you.
The staff are always willing to answer any questions. They work extremely hard and cannot thank them enough for looking after my father, who has been in there since October. The home is very clean and has a nice atmosphere. I am glad this is the home he is in.
The overall care my mum receives is fantastic, the staff go the extra mile and are always very friendly and helpful. They even let dogs in to visit residents as it's seen as good therapy. Wonderful place.
My husband entered the care home at end of May 2021. Since that date, he has been lovingly cared for and nursed. He stated that they look after him very well - also he enjoys the food, his room is spacious, modern and comfortable. The whole building is very attractive in the enclosed gardens. Also well maintained, inside and out. I am very pleased I chose this care home for my husband.
I am satisfied with the care my relative is receiving, but I am not happy with the arrangements for visiting. It's so hard to get appointments to visit, it can be up to three weeks on occasions and I am only allowed twenty minutes which I find unacceptable, I am fully vaccinated so why can I not go to her room for a visit, this arrangement needs addressing urgently.
We had a full group meeting with a member of staff from each team on Mum's unit. All staff are very friendly and professional. Mum encouraged to join in activities. Would be nice if we could see Mum's room so we can organise it so pictures are on the wall and a shelf for smaller pictures and toys.
Very caring and thoughtful staff. Coping well under difficult circumstances.
