View Full Details of Westbourne House Nursing HomeI just want to thank all the amazing staff who have looked after my mum so well during her very recent almost 6-week stay in an NHS Intermediate Care bed at Westbourne House. Nothing was too much trouble and they went above and beyond to help our family celebrate Mum's 90th birthday in December, giving us exclusive use of the dining room and putting up decorations for a little Afternoon Tea and cake. It was Mum's first experience of being in a care home and although initially she found it hard to adjust, we all know how much better and more mobile she is again after her time spent at Westbourne House and much more able to return home today with community carers and family support. Thanks again for treating our mum as anyone would wish their loved ones to be when they need some extra care and support. We are very grateful.
My mother stayed for a few weeks on intermediate care following a stay in hospital. The staff were compassionate, caring and thoughtful, and tended to her every need. The team leader on red zone was exceptional and lead a team of carers in an excellent manner. My only dissatisfaction was with the GP allocated to this care home, who didn't listen to my concerns or discuss medication changes to my mother, which in the end culminated in an emergency readmission to hospital, but throughout the care staff reacted with true professionalism.
Star Quality: The city woke up to a blanket of snow this morning, with many roads impassable or difficult to drive on. One staff nurse who should have been on a day off saw the weather and immediately set off for work to help, knowing she would be needed. Others struggled in, however, they could get there, to support their vulnerable residents. Commitment above and beyond and representing everything we value about the NHS. Thank you.
My Grandad was admitted here for rehabilitation but unfortunately he went downhill and refused to participate in any rehabilitation and deteriorated. He was refusing food and taking very little to drink despite the staff encouraging and helping him. He became 'challenging' at times but the staff here were so nice to him, he was always clean and well looked after. Unfortunately he sadly passed away but during the time preceding this we were really well looked after as a family, all the staff were really helpful and nothing was too much. We are obviously devastated to lose my Grandad but it gives us a lot of peace knowing that during his last days he was so well looked after and respected by everybody working there, he passed peacefully and in comfort thanks to all the staff looking after him.
The last time my poor nan was well enough to have a conversation and eat a proper meal was the day before she was sent from the hospital to this God-forsaken hell hole. The evening she arrived there she rang my mum to tell her she had fallen. The next day we got to her we found her completely out of it, she hadn't been out of bed and she hadn't eaten a thing all day. She was unresponsive and clearly in a lot of pain with her leg. It took hours for the carers who were on duty that night to admit she had fallen the night before - they were trying to cover it up as they had not followed procedure, and nothing had been recorded. We demanded my poor nan be taken into hospital, this happened 2 days later. We never got to the bottom of what happened but my beautiful nan went rapidly downhill from there. My nan gained her angel wings yesterday. I will never forgive them for the way they treated my poor nan.
My mother was admitted to Westbourne House. She was so frail but the staff were amazing. Sadly she never gained enough strength to come home and she passed away. The care home was so clean, and the staff were so friendly. I can't recommend this place enough. If you are looking for a good environment for your loved one, look no further.
My mum was admitted for intermediate care with a view to being able to go back home to live independently. She was however very ill and died within 2 weeks of her being at Westbourne House. The GP and all the staff myself and my mum came into contact with were exemplary. Kindness, professionalism, respect and dignity were shown always not only to my mum but myself and my family. Nothing was too much trouble. We stayed all the time during her last 3 days and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Anything they had to make all our lives better we could have. Exceptional, everyone and we would like to thank you all so very much for everything you did for Mum and all our family we couldn't ask for more.
My friend stayed for around 4 weeks in intermediate care. Both the nursing and care staff were so lovely and caring. They treated my friend well and kept me informed of any problems. The food was really good, even tempting her small appetite. Visitors were welcomed. I would have no worries recommending this home if you find yourself needing one.
Westbourne House has cared for my mum very well. The staff have been very attentive and have always been there for Mum when she has needed someone. It was comforting to know that a doctor was on site three times a week. The food was fine and we liked the fact that it was cooked fresh on site. The staff on reception were absolutely lovely and were always cheerful.
We spent 2-3 hours visiting our sister, and all of the staff were attentive and friendly. We also heard the care staff’s interactions with other care users while evening meals were being served; the conversations were noticeably caring, with the staff making sure that they served the best choice to their guests. The nursing staff and doctor were very attentive and obviously caring about outcomes and comfort. The best care home visit we have experienced ever. I had to give a rating for management, but I really have no idea or contact. However, they must be doing something right with outstanding staff like this.
I am a patient here, having been discharged from a long stay in hosptial. Basically, was given the choice on where to die. Not that I expect it to happen any time soon. I forget stuff: make up memories etc. The staff are very good about this and kind to me. Prior to being in here, I have had a liver transplant; and have chronic liver and kidney disease (the transplanted liver being faulty). However, things are now post-Covid so I will concern myself with this. Male. Born 1957. Covid-19 twice. Heart attack twice - mild. Flu twice. Pneumonia once. Any one of those illnesses should have killed me. But all I have to show for it is scabies. One other thing is the food can taste odd. This is a side effect of Covid-19, as the taste can also be found inside sealed food...such as soft-boiled eggs and biscuit packs. And there are alternative foods. Today I am having a thick pancake and jam scone. Followed by tea and biscuits.
My Dad has been in the intermediate care twice in the last two months, both times all the staff, including the physio team, have been amazing, very friendly and professional. Many thanks for all your help and support.
My father went in the home for 3 months following a fall and hip replacement. We were really apprehensive about this after all the reports regarding nursing homes in general but we quickly realised there was no need to worry. The care and staff were fabulous my father was well looked after and well fed. Only downside was the room, as it was temporary it was a little bleak but clean. Well done and thank you guys.
I found the care given to my husband was very good. Nothing seemed too much trouble. Unfortunately, my husband has since passed away.
My mum, fell in her garden and broke her hip, in March 2022, was in Northern general hospital for two weeks, then to Westbourne house for six weeks, I visited my mum often, I can honestly say the staff were fantastic. Myself and my brother were often called by the staff for my mum to speak to us to reassure her, it’s the personal touches I liked about this home, always friendly staff, and make you feel so welcome, mum has never been in a rehabilitation home before, she is now home and says she misses all the staff and people there, I used to take my karaoke microphone in to let the residents sing, they all loved it and so did the staff, 10 out of 10 from us. Thank you so much Westbourne House staff xxx
The staff were very friendly during this tricky time and made sure I knew what was going on and why. Due to good weather, I did not go into the facilities but spent my time in the grounds at the front. I have not marked the below options that I am unable to comment on, sorry about that.
My beloved Mum was transferred from hospital to an intermediate care bed at Westbourne House Nursing Home for physio and occupational therapy to help Mum’s mobility before she went home. Sadly, Mum became very poorly and passed away a few days later. Every member of staff was kind, caring, respectful and courteous to my Mum, myself and my brother, from reception to the nurses in charge and all the wonderful staff members whose names I never got to know, especially the beautiful twins. I was so thankful that I was allowed to stay with Mum so that I could be with her and the staff made it possible for me to do that. They made sure Mum was clean, comfortable and settled and I will never forget their kindness and patience. We couldn’t have wished for better care and we feel so lucky that Mum was so well looked after. Thank you from the bottom of my heart
In very difficult times (COVID) the home have been excellent at engaging me in the care of my 91 year old mum. Phone calls and WhatsApp calls have been used to help me communicate with my mum and the rehab team. Thank you.
The night staff is too shorthanded. The breakfast menu could be improved.
I have been in here twice and find it very good.
