View Full Details of Howgate House Care HomeThere is a lack of warmth and welcome at Howgate that is not conducive to resident wellbeing and visitor confidence. I am comparing Howgate to what I consider to be better care homes (from personal experience).
Mum is well looked after. It is good that carers have a word with my mum at regular intervals.
Very happy with Mum's care. Mum settled here very well. Thank you.
From Mum arriving at the home, Mum settled in very well and is content. Thank you.
What a wonderful care home Howgate is made more so by the excellent staff and management who are all pleasant and willing to listen at any time. They all strive to make sure the residents are safe and as happy as they could possibly be. What more could you ask from this wonderful caring care home, so from the cleaners to the managers a big well done.
The staff are friendly, but there are not enough of them. We are consistently being told the staff-to-residents ratio is correct, but it absolutely isn't. The staff-to-residents needs ratio is not being met. When my mum moved into Howgate in January 2023, she had a shower every week, now she's lucky if she gets one a month. I get costs are rising but this should not be to the detriment of the residents.
My aunt has come into Howgate House since 28/12/23. Both her physical and mental health has improved. She has put on wight and is enjoying the food. She has settled in quickly. She has as many personal possessions around her as necessary to make her feel at home. The carers are all lovely with tons and tons of patience, very kind and respectful. The management staff are all approachable and sort out any concerns efficiently, it's all good.
Brilliant. Right from the start of my mum's assessment to acceptance, the admin staff have been so helpful and really pleasant and friendly towards my mum and us. The carers are exceptional, they all know her and have a good laugh with her and us. The activities are varied and often and the two ladies are bonkers. They are all truly great and I wouldn't want my mum anywhere else. Thank you all the team.
My mum was lucky to be sent to Howgate House Care Home for her palliative care. I couldn’t have wished for more caring staff, my mum was made to feel very welcome and settled in immediately. The staff and residents have been so supportive of Mum. The staff and manager genuinely care for their residents. It’s one of the hardest decisions to make, putting a loved one into care. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend sending your loved one to Howgate House. I can’t thank them enough for caring for my mum in her final days.
Carers were kind and helpful with my Cousin. The home is dated and could do with a facelift, the home does not smell like some homes but on a few occasions I had to clean the floor as it was dirty, cleaners came in to take over, they are overworked and maybe could do with more staff. Things go missing and no one tries to find out why. Had problems trying to get out of the home at weekends as all carers were busy, this happened a few times to other visitors. I wouldn't recommend this home.
My husband was recently admitted to Howgate House Care Home and I can't sing their praises enough. Sadly, following his diagnosis of Alzheimer's six years ago and having cared for him myself at home throughout this last year has become increasingly challenging. He is now residing at Howgate House Care Home permanently. The manager and the rest of the staff have been amazingly supportive to us. They have been so reassuring and my husband is receiving excellent care. In a safe, clean, comfortable environment where his needs are met, that makes both of us content.
My experience of the care home has been really good. Staff are very helpful and treat my dad with dignity. I'm very happy with the care my dad is receiving.
Staff are always friendly and caring. Mum has been at Howgate House Care Home for seven years throughout that time she has been well looked after and staff have always kept me well informed of any issues.
Staff care is so lovely, nothing is too much trouble. Carers are hard working, lovely, polite and caring.
My mum has been in Howgate House Care Home nearly five years. In all that time I have never had any concerns at all with any cleanliness, food, drinks, rooms. The staff I cannot fault in anything they do, so caring. I think they go above and beyond. I am there most days, if asked I would recommend it to anyone looking for their loved ones.
I visit my old neighbour, he is very happy and well looked after.
Since my husband has been in Howgate House Care Home all has worked out well. All the staff, care, nursing, kitchen and manager have all been very caring and understanding and will do anything to help. In out case myself and sons have been very pleased with how things have worked out.
Moving Dad to a new home was 100% the right thing to do - whilst not fancy Howgate House Care Home staff really do deliver "care" in this comfortable home and I would have no hesitation to recommend them.
From the moment we contacted Howgate House Care Home they gave us amazing care and support. They cared for both my mother and my father, who were settled, happy and well looked after whilst in their care. The staff always had time to talk, help and support all the family. They helped us through some very difficult times with true professionalism and care - forever thankful.
Since my husband moved to Howgate House Care Home, he managed to get out twice (fire exit and main entrance) without staff noticing. Police were involved to find him the first time. Reception staff very friendly and helpful. During visits I clean his floor, some debris under the bed is still there since he moved in. Clothing getting mixed even though it is labelled, I now wash myself. Staff undermine his appearance. Some carers bully him. Can go on and on.
