My husband has been at Balmoral Court for 8 months. He has settled well. I visit twice weekly and he's relaxed and content. All staff, management, nursing, care, cleaners, laundry are friendly, caring, conscientious and permanent. There is a good support network from GPs, NHS, which is very encouraging. The ward has recently been refurbished, it is light, functional and clean. The atmosphere is calm, care staff are visible at all times and alert. Bedrooms are basic but functional, cleaned regularly, fresh bed linen daily. Hubby enjoys his food and family members can arrange to have a meal if booked in advance. Occasionally, clothing and slippers go missing but they usually turn up a day or 2 later. Anyone looking for a place for their loved one should visit - the care for dementia patients is second to none.

My husband went into Albert Unit in March 2024 but deteriorated quite quickly and after spending time in hospital, was discharged back to William Unit in May. He had advanced Alzheimer's, the level of care he had was fantastic, (would give seven stars if I could), the staff made sure he was comfortable and if I asked for assistance for him they were there as soon as possible, considering there were other residents needing care. The facilities were all being renovated while he was in there but to be honest, he didn't need them as he was bedbound. If you are looking for a plush, hotel like evironment, go elsewhere but if you are looking for warm, caring staff, this is definitely the place. My husband passed away in December in the home and I was with him the whole time. Recommend you check this one out!

Thank goodness I was able to get my husband out of Balmoral Court, Byker. As soon as he arrived he went downhill rapidly. He was left in his room bent double in his chair looking at the floor all day (he is unable to walk). There were never any fluids in the room, the food was dreadful and cold. A few days after he arrived personal items were stolen from his room and clothes always missing so he was dressed in other people's clothes. If he asked to go to the toilet no one was available, or it took 20 minutes to come by which time it was too late. He was always getting head injuries falling out of bed, and on some occasions not recorded. When I asked how it had happened, I was always told he was found on the floor (for how long). Albert Unit is a disgrace, there is no compassion shown to residents when dealing with very ill people who can't speak for themselves. I have kept a journal and photographs of all my visits. Management did not listen.

I want to express my deep gratitude for the exceptional care and support provided by all the staff at Balmoral Court. From the Manager and nursing staff to the cleaners, everyone has gone above and beyond to assist my dad and me. They've always been prompt in responding to queries and requests for support. When I needed advice regarding my dad's care and assistance with contacting social services, the team was incredibly supportive. Both the Manager and nurses demonstrated a high level of experience and knowledge, which gave me great confidence in the care my dad is receiving. Moreover, the warmth and politeness of the staff made me feel genuinely welcome every time I visited. I've read other reviews and was surprised by the content because my experience has been highly positive. While some areas of the facility may be a bit dated, I cannot fault the level of care and support provided. Thanks to everyone involved in my dad's care.

Absolutely appalling care, place needs to be shut down. Have noticed others coming forward sharing their horrendous experiences which are similar to the awful order our family had to go through with my grandad. It won't allow me to post it on this site however if anybody would like to get in touch with me I have left my email address on another review platform for Balmoral Court. We need justice for our loved ones and not allow this place to operate any more!

Absolutely vile, the place is rotten. Management is so unapproachable and you dare to open your mouth about an appalling lack of care and you get told to leave the building and put safeguarding in against you. Bearing in mind the place works with the most challenging of residents the staff appear to have next to no training, experience or compassion. When I visited my grandad was left filthy in the same clothes all week with flies swarming the room. Was never any linen on his bed apart from dried-in urine and faeces on his mattress. This was on most visits. He was only given a small bowl of watered-down soup without a drink for his lunch! We had to take food in for him which seemed to revive him by the end of the visit. It was more like a prison riot with residents fighting in the corridors and no staff around to witness anything going on. I've worked in care for years and it is beyond any belief how it's allowed to operate. It needs shutting down.

There is a nurse bell in every room, the one in my Nanas is dodgy and any reply takes 5 minutes. The whole home is in disrepair and my Nanas chest of draws is falling apart and a week later still no help with getting them sorted. The whole place is disgusting, food is served cold to my Nana cause she sits in her room I’m guessing. They mess around with medication without discussing it with patients or family. They put intelligent people on a ward full of people completely out of it with dementia and other health problems etc. My Nana doesn’t leave her room at all because she doesn’t want to be around people who are out of it and talk like it and sound like it. She has no independence there at all, her bathroom since she moved in has stunk off awful wee and is just disgusting. This is due to the last person in the room who apparently peed all over the whole bathroom on the walls etc but clearly was not sorted before she got there. There are so many concerns I cannot fit into this review.

My husband went into that home as it was the only place that had a place that could see to his needs. He had dementia, he was walking and talking when he went in, but every time we went he was asleep. He was supposed to have 24/7 but every time we went there was no one there. The place smelt terrible his room was a disgrace, and his clothes kept going missing but there was a lock on his wardrobe. He always had dirty clothes on. We used to have to pay for someone to come out and cut his nails as they were so bad. My daughter had a few times to give him a wash and a shave. I would say go and check it out and think twice before you leave a loved one there. Maybe if you lived near it might suit, unlucky for us we didn’t.

Absolutely disgusting, dad had no dignity no compassion or care in this hell hole. He was filthy on every visit, never had a beard in his life till he came here. Nails long and filthy, my brother paid private for his hand and feet nails, over medicated, sleeping on the floors while staff cutting hair in corridors, so dad breathing in hair. Even at dad's end of life was undignified, filthy tee shirt, mouth dry, staff untrained and English very bad. I could go on, this abuse and neglect has been reported to safeguarding team CQC and councils, investigation on ongoing. Wish I could show my videos and photos of evidence. Please don’t bring your loved one here. I’ve been a health care worker for over 20 years and never experienced such bad practice.

I have nothing good to say about the home and the majority of the staff. My dad was in here for approximately 3 months which was the most horrible time for my dad and our family. We had no assistance or assurance from the management they were not interested in anything we to had to say we were told we were a family of complainers (bearing in mind had been in previous homes and always told we were a wonderful family). Had to be moved to this place due to having behavioural issues and needed more nursing care. Food disgusting, we used to take food into him. Clothes missing although we always did his washing, would go to find other residents in his clothes. The bed was dirty room filthy and the bathroom. How this place is still open is beyond me. The only time management responds is if someone leaves a positive review. The place doesn't look like what is in pictures all I can say is if you value your loved ones this is not the place for them to be.

My mam has vascular dementia and had challenging behaviour issues. I was put in a position where I had to find somewhere to move her to urgently. Balmoral Court had a place and they could cater for her needs but I did have initial reservations before she transferred. They very quickly disappeared. The quality of the care provided is outstanding, the staff treat the residents with dignity and respect and I feel they are genuine caring people. The residents’ welfare is top priority and as a family that is very reassuring. My mam has settled so well and I believe that is down to the staff, they are very approachable and nothing is a problem for them. I can’t praise and thank them enough for looking after her so well. She has been there for 3 months now and I can see a massive difference in her, thank you Balmoral Court, excellent service all round!

I have nothing but respect for the staff and management team at Balmoral; it’s a tough place to work with the most challenging of residents, yet I find they are always approachable and helpful. The home could do with a lick of paint, but every time I visit, they are working on some updates. Some have commented on the smell, but as I said previously, it has a lot of challenging residents, and there is always a cleaner going around non-stop, as well as the care workers mucking in. My father has had to go to hospital numerous times whilst he has been there, and a member of the team always goes with him and stays with him often for a very long time and throughout the night. In summary, the team do the best they can to make sure the residents are happy and looked after in a challenging environment.

Used to be a nice home then covid hit and over time most were forced to quit their jobs. The ones that did stay struggled daily which is sad to see as there are some diamonds caring there (the few who did stay). The others were supposedly replaced by the managers' close family members and the nightshift ones were replaced by foreign agency workers with no dementia care training and just basic care training, if you can even call it that. The whole place needs a lick of paint. Don't let the pictures on their website fool you. It's 10 years outdated and the whole place stinks of human waste and asking a question or getting anything done is a no-go. The management is a joke and needs to learn some etiquette skills. Last week 17/01/23 they moved all of the downstairs residents upstairs and all of the upstairs residents downstairs. What a farce, 20 or more running around like headless chickens with no clue at all. Whilst there two residents escaped from the building. Luckily they were back within minutes, it could have been a lot worse.

My husband has been in Balmoral Court for several months now. The care he is receiving is excellent. I am informed of every aspect of his care, and every query I have is answered. My husband is very settled here, and it's all down to the staff on his unit and management. The staff member who always answers the telephone is very cheerful. He speaks highly of all the staff on his unit. I would just like to say a big thank you to everyone who is involved with my husband's care.

My aunt was admitted to Balmoral Court, and it was a positive experience. We were kept in the loop with information, and she settled very well in the service. The food appeared appetising, and my aunty enjoyed the meals provided.

My friend was recently admitted to Balmoral Court. We've been video chatting often as we live in different countries. He seems to be very happy and settled at Balmoral. He talks highly of the staff and is very fond of several of them that work on his floor. He often compliments them on their professionality and their hard work. I'd like to use this chance to thank the staff for looking after him and for all the hard work I'm often told about.

My gran was at Balmoral Court on a short term stay. Whilst staying there, she was looked after well and had plenty to do with the activities; she particually liked it when the man with the birds came in for animal therapy. The care staff were fantastic and did a fantastic job.

My nan is a resident at Balmoral Care home and I honestly can’t fault the staff in any way at all! It’s a big decision choosing to put a family member in a home, but Balmoral has made her and us feel so welcome and comfortable. Thank you.

I've found the staff at Balmoral Court to be incredibly helpful and vigilant. They have been very accommodating to me and my family and do a great job looking after my mom. They've provided a wide range of stimulating activities for her and took great care in ensuring they know her likes and dislikes. We're always made to feel very welcome.
