View Full Details of Astell Care CentreMy brother is very happy at Astell Care Home and the staff are very good. He also reports that the meals are good and he looks forward to them. His room is very basic but it is clean and tidy and he enjoys watching his television. Although he has a comfortable armchair to sit in, he could do with a chair for visitors to sit on. The staff make an effort to engage him in organised activities.
The staff at Astell Care home are extremely good - caring, empathic and professional, but with a focus on the residents. There are numerous activities and residents are encouraged to take part and go out on little trips whenever possible. Residents are treated with kindness and dignity at all times, even when their behaviour is challenging.
My friend has been a resident for virtually a year now and I have nothing but the utmost respect for the staff who work tirelessly in very difficult circumstances. How they cope with multiple residents who are incontinent is beyond me. Because of this issue, the home does have a certain unfortunate odour but I didn't think a complaint would be fair. Whilst it would be nice if the rooms and shared areas were more welcoming. I do understand the need for practically to facilitate clearing and cleaning up after accidents.
I go to see my father every day, he's doing so much better than being alone. He's well looked after, the staff are an absolutely amazing lovely bunch myself and my family couldn't have asked for a better place for him to be.
The staff are all amazing, always so warm and welcoming and happy to keep us up to date on how my grandad is doing and anything he might need. Grandad is happy where he is and always seems well looked after and comfortable. His room is always tidy and clean and the activities he takes part in always look engaging.
In the 10 years that my wife has been a resident at Astell Care Centre, she has been treated with care, support and dignity from all the staff. The thing is I feel that her room could be upgraded and decorated. Kind regards.
The carers and staff are always on hand and always look in to make sure she is ok and have a chat with her, she loves them and laughs with them.
Poor quality of care. Relative moved from the establishment yesterday. The personal odour accompanied the dirty clothes - clearly unchanged and unwashed for some time. The rooms are shabby and bare and lack any stimulation. He felt unsafe in the institution and could not wait to leave. He said the food was awful - cold and inedible. Staff had little regard for mental wellbeing - he very rarely left the premises and felt like a prisoner. I would recommend avoiding this place at all costs.
My father who was admitted as a known at risk of falls had six falls in the three days he was there. The last fall was fatal, more like an asylum than a care home. Be very observant of any changes to your loved ones if resident here.
My mum has been a resident at Astell Care Centre for around 18 months. During that time she has been so well cared for, the staff are lovely. All the staff from the management and admin the carers and cleaning team, the kitchen staff and the laundry staff are brilliant. They all care about the residents, get to know them well and are respectful of their individual needs. The place is always clean and tidy and my mum's physical and personal care is excellent. The activities staff work hard to include everyone and cater to everyone's tastes and needs. I feel that all the staff are approachable and nothing is too much bother. The nursing staff have kept me well informed about my mum's health needs and again are very approachable. I feel happy that my mum is receiving such good care and she is in safe hands. I'm aware that the place needs some TLC but that is now happening so everywhere will get an update.
The staff are lovely and caring. Today it was 20 degrees outside there was heating on, no fans in the room. This was unbearable, especially for senior people who are uncomfortable enough with their illness. I was told that the heating has to be on. I asked for a fan and was told they had none. The only one in the building apparently belonged to a staff member. I was told I could bring a fan of my own, which I did. I left feeling concerned as I thought all electrical equipment should be checked before use? The photos on the website do not reflect the bare rooms, bare dining areas, or lack of any decorations, especially at Christmas.
Management and staff were very caring and efficient when I spoke to them. Security is good all over the main building. Regular meals were provided for my father in his room as he wanted to stay there all the time. The room was clean and well laid out.
My wife has been a resident of Astell Care Centre for a number of years, in all the time she has been in their care she has received the best care. The staff have in veritably seen to residents the past few years and cared for her with passion and thorough professionalism, I feel very fortunate to have my wife in their capable hands.
Needed respite care at short notice after the care home I usually use let me down at the last moment. The Astell team were awesome! They were thorough ensuring the person would be cared for appropriately, checking preferences, medication, quirks, etc and arranged callbacks at times that suited me and stuck to the times agreed. The premises were immaculate and the staff were extremely welcoming. They couldn't have done more to make the temporary resident more comfortable. That person remarked repeatedly how there was always plenty of staff on hand and how good the food was. I do feel these are very important for people finding themselves in this position. I will be using this facility again without hesitation.
My mother is a different person since being in your care. She's so much brighter and alert. Excellent care.
Care and support are second to none. Residents are treated with respect and dignity. The staff are polite and helpful.
I am very happy with the care my husband gets, he is always clean, shaved, and in his own clothes. The meals are very good, fresh veg and a balanced diet. Rooms and washing are cleaned and washed as often as they need to be, never left. All staff are caring and helpful and a good support to me as well.
My mother has advanced Alzheimer's and the management and staff in the care home do an excellent job of managing my mother's care and wellbeing.
My long term experience of the care provided to my mum has been excellent. The care team are always approachable and all have amazing qualities in the care they provide. The other members of this team; kitchen, laundry and domestic staff also demonstrate a level of professionalism I would expect to find. My mum's needs were met on a personal level by all of those involved.
My sister spent the last 6 months of her life at Astell Care Centre, I can't express enough how well she was loved and cared for by the team of carers. They always made me welcome and they treated my sister with compassion and dignity.
