View Full Details of Sycamore Care CentreOur mother went to Sycamore Care Centre in September 2024 after a long stay in the hospital. She had extremely complex medical needs but, management and staff worked tirelessly caring for her and to request additional help and support be put in place for both our mother and the family. Unfortunately, she deteriorated further over a very short period and passed away in January 2025. The care centre itself is modern and scrupulously clean and the rooms for residents are spacious and very well equipped. Activities and entertainment are offered regularly and although encouraged to do so, our mother wouldn't always engage with staff or other residents. Dietary requirements were also difficult but, we discussed this with the staff and her needs were met. We would definitely recommend Sycamore Care Centre, Boldon, to anybody looking for placement of their loved one and would like to thank you all once again, for the care and compassion shown when our beloved mother passed.
My experience at Sycamore Care Centre is wholly positive. The staff are wonderful in the caregiving of our family member. They phone us promptly with any health updates or concerns and general updates. My dad is happy and content and well fed, clean and tidy. The staff are very professional and always happy to chat with us when we visit with any questions.
My father was admitted a few months ago. The staff realised quickly that he would be better suited in a different unit. They moved him as soon as a space became available. This suited him and although it has taken time to settle he is comfortable and the staff are fantastic with him even on his most grumpy days. The activities provided daily are great and the activities coordinator makes a point of seeking him out to make sure he joins in. The rooms are fully equipped and personal items are encouraged. Can't fault them. They do their best for the residents.
Mum needed 24-hour care due to the onset of dementia. We chose Sycamore as when we went to look around for a suitable care home this one was so warm and friendly with promises of activities for the residents, outings etc. The reality was slightly different, the staff for the most part are lovely and caring and do their best to cope with and look after several residents all with different levels of care. I haven't seen many activities and all I tend to see is residents sitting around on dining chairs all day. The food that I have seen seems to be an unappetising ' beans with everything' menu. The night shift seemed to scare my mother a bit and concern was raised by my sister-in-law. Mum still has not settled properly but I'm hoping she will given time. Overall it's not a bad place, the staff are brilliant for the most part. I'd say mum is well looked after but not cared for.
I am overwhelmed and incredibly grateful for the care my auntie has received. The staff went above and beyond, she was treated with respect and dignity. She was not just a resident, the lodge is like a warm and welcoming family home. Nothing was too much trouble and I felt that she was safe and in good hands. Her room was spotless on a daily basis and the staff had so much time for her and also for us as a family. She was settled and very content, we could not have asked for more and I will forever be thankful.
This home really needs improvement. The amenities and decor need an overhaul and the lift and heating are not adequate. The food is mass-produced and isn't appetising. We can't fault the staff, they do their very best and they were appalled as the friends and family were/are at the treatment of a recent resident by management. Going into care you would expect that needs are complex and at times challenging. The resident had issues regarding mental health and lost his wife whilst he was there for a total of four weeks. In that time the home did nothing to support him but thought it fit to hand him his notice directly after telling him his wife had died. His family moved him and he is so happy in his new home. No outbursts, no issues. That says a lot.
After many weeks in hospital, Dad received a very warm welcome on arrival at Sycamore Care Centre, Nookside. His needs were met and he was made comfortable straightaway. Staff could not have been more friendlier or helpful, nothing was a bother or too much trouble. They promptly helped or fulfilled any requests, they were always available to help and answer our queries or questions. Unfortunately, Dad was only here for 12 days but died peacefully in their good hands. We highly recommended Sycamore Care Centre, as within a very short time the staff earned our trust and respect, therefore we are so grateful to them for their love and care they gave Dad in his last days and the family at the time of our sad loss.
My mother is well cared for and feels safe. The staff treat her with dignity, at the same time ensuring that her needs are met.
I have only just recently moved both my parents to Sycamore Care Home in Nookside, Grindon. My parents have very different needs, but the staff have gone the extra mile to keep my parents together, which is of great comfort to them and the family. I cannot express the relief, knowing that they are both being looked after in such a caring way, especially as my mum needs 24-hour nursing care. Everyone at the home is so friendly, happy and hard working. My father was adamant that he didn’t want to go into care as he was very independent until a short while ago, and everyone who knows him can’t believe how quickly he settled and how happy he is and the praise he has for everyone at the home. He’s even joined in on activities full of praise for the staff. I can’t thank the staff enough for their support and for looking after my parents with genuine affection; it is such a comfort. The staff are all stars and worth their weight in gold.
My mother was a resident in The Lodge at Sycamore Care Centre from October to January, and then again in March. She had excellent care, and we highly valued the compassion and attention of the staff. This was especially important to us in her second stay, in the time before and immediately after her death. Her time in Sycamore is when we most felt that her care was person-centred, and she was treated as a human being with a rich life rather than a transient patient. She loved to banter with the staff, and it was clear to us the genuine affection that they gave back to her. This made a big difference to her last few months of her life and gave us, as her family, peace of mind that she was not just safe but valued and looked after as a person. This care and compassion across her stay were shown by all the team at Sycamore, from the most senior members of staff down to some very young staff, and their kindness to the family when she died was so appreciated.
We are very pleased with the staff at Sycamore Care Centre and the care that my mother is receiving. Very welcoming and open. Not had any issues at all from the first day my mother moved there. Excellent.
Staff are very approachable, listen to needs and address issues as they occur. They show privacy and dignity with residents in their care.
Although the staff were friendly there is not enough per shift, this leads to incidents as there is no staff keeping an eye on residents even when they have been put on close observations, and one member of staff on certain shifts with dementia patients! Having a domestic as an extra member of staff is not sufficient, multiple incidents with staff which could have been prevented if they listened to the family of the resident. After speaking to management it was clear they were not interested and when we asked for documentation about his care including what he has eaten, incident reports, and staff levels when there was an incident this was refused even though we have a right to this, felt as though they were trying to hide something.
The care the staff have shown to my dad, getting him settled and managing his complex needs is amazing. I can't believe that have managed to support him in socialising and being more active. Thank you.
Mum has been really welcomed into the home, and as a family, we have been able to make this her new home. She is being well cared for with dignity and respect. After lockdown, it is lovely to see her interacting with others and taking part in activities. Knowing Mum is safe and being looked after means I can rest. I highly recommend Sycamore Care Centre.
I found the care staff and admin staff very approachable and friendly. The standard of the home is of a very high standard. No problems at all. My dad stayed in the villa for end of life, and I could not fault the care and support he was given and also to myself and family.
In view of my experience at Sycamore Care Centre (respite), I found I was treated to a high level of standard by all staff and management. It made my life more relaxing, them being always there to answer questions and concerns. Thank you again.
My mam has been at Sycamore Care Centre for 9-months now, and I have peace of mind that she is well cared for by all the staff there. She is totally bed-bound and fully dependent on all the staff who care for and support her for all her everyday needs. There is also a nursing team onsite to quickly help if necessary. I have found that if I need any help or advice, this is actioned quickly by the care staff and also the admin department. The care home is always spotless due to the domestic staff. The entertainment team are good also. I would recommend Sycamore Care Centre.
Our Mam became a resident at Sycamore Care Centre on 20th July 2021. Since that time, she has settled really well into her surroundings. I speak on behalf of the entire family when I say we cannot thank all the staff enough for your continued care of our precious Mam. It goes without saying that she couldn't be in safer hands. We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.
I stayed at the home from February 2022, and I give the home and staff 100%. I have been really happy with the quality of care. I have really loved my stay here and have given a score of excellent in every area.
