View Full Details of Barchester Newlands Care HomeMy mother passed away peacefully on the 9th November in Barchester Newlands Care Home. She had cancer but the care received meant that she was comfortable right to the end. I would like to thank all of the excellent team for their faultless efforts and care during her time there. We will always be very grateful to the managers, nurses, carers, cleaners, caterers and other support and admin staff. Thank you.
Mum had a great stay, no issues. I visited every day, four - five times. She was very happy, the carers were excellent and Mum had a great stay. I would not hesitate to use Barchester Newlands Care Home again.
My relative is comfortable and cared for. Clean and friendly.
The home is always very clean and friendly. The activities are great, always well-organised. Only negative seems to be laundry. Ongoing issues with resident's clothing going missing and wearing other residents' clothes. Clothes stuffed into drawers instead of hung up in wardrobe. Can not fault care given from staff on the unit.
Great home with great staff, who are always really friendly and helpful with residents and visitors.
My lovely mum spent just short of two weeks at this lovely care home. She was treated very well. Looked after with dignity. The staff were lovely to deal with and nothing was a bother for them. The staff were very caring towards all my family during a hard time.
Communication could improve. Cleanliness could be improved. My dad has stated on several occasions that the food is awful. As an overall unit, the carers look after our dad with compassion, dignity and kindness. I have been approached by a higher member of staff and been told incorrect information which I am led to believe is incorrect.
We have had a really positive experience since my grandfather arrived at Barchester Newlands Care Home. The staff are so kind and caring. The home itself is clean and the food is very good quality. We are really impressed so far with all the staff and the home itself.
My husband is very well cared for in Lakeland unit. He always looks very clean, nicely dressed and beautifully shaved. No complaints about his care whatsoever, the staff, without exception, are caring and very efficient. My only worry is now I am 80, I worry about the 84-mile round trip. With winter coming on, the drive will be more difficult. I hope he can get moved. It is only the distance, I don't think he can get better care anywhere. Thanks everyone.
Staff are very good with residents, food good, staff very friendly and helpful if any questions I have about my husband's care, they find the answers. My husband has been in Barchester Newlands Care Home for over a year now and I have no problems with the quality of care he is given which I know he doesn't like with his care needs sometimes.
My dad has been a resident n the Lakeland unit for about nine months. He has settled in so well, much better than we had imagined. Every time we visit him he looks so well. He is beautifully clean, dressed nicely and well-presented. That would have been so important to him - he was always clean-shaven and very particular about this appearance. My dad has put on some weight, so he's obviously enjoying his food. He loves music and enjoys the activities where a singer comes to entertain the residents. The staff are wonderful! So caring, welcoming and professional, we can't praise them enough. Social media is great too!
I have nothing negative to say about Barchester Newlands Care Home. My friend always looks well cared for and is always content. The activities, both in variety and frequency, are amazing.
My mother has been in the home since October 17th 2023. The staff are excellent towards the residents and their families. They make you feel welcome, and the food is excellent. The only problem is that there is not enough staff during the day and night. The home needs to invest in more equipment, such as hoists and so on. Every staff member is very friendly, and some of them know my name. Newlands Care Home is the home in the whole of Workington.
When it was announced earlier in the year that the amateur society to which I'd been connected for over 30 years was producing a particular show in May because of my diagnosis I doubted I would see it. Thanks to management and staff here I was able to go along with another resident and two activities ladies. I told my friends they were bringing me. We were treated royally with snacks and soft drinks, a programme each and an ice cream in the interval. No one will ever know what it meant to me to be there but Newlands made my dream come true.
"Challenging"
Staff have been incredibly supportive and I feel that my mother has received excellent care. I have felt confident and reassured that she is in good hands which makes it easier for me during the periods of time I cannot get to visit her. The care provided seems to be tailored to my mum's needs. All of the staff I have met have been kind, caring and professional.
The staff at Newlands looked after our mam for 14 months before she died at the end of May. She had vascular dementia and a very nasty cancerous wound on her leg. This eventually resulted in her being bed-bound, and totally reliant on the staff for every aspect of her daily living. Mam was cared for so well, and treated with kindness, humour and compassion, even though at times, she could be noisy and demanding. Visiting was stressful and heartbreaking at times, as she often didn't know who we were. I would always feel comforted when I left her that she wasn't alone, and the staff would be in to see her whenever they could. I was contacted regularly if there were any new concerns. Newlands wasn't perfect, but they all did a great job under difficult circumstances. All the staff from the manager to the household cleaners, laundry and kitchen staff and the maintenance men, worked really hard, and I appreciate everything they did to make Mam's life more tolerable and comfortable.
With the condition of Progressive supranuclear palsy, my wife was unable to receive the special care she needed in her home town. We brought her here where the staff treat her with the utmost tenderness and dignity and looked in on her frequently to enquire about her requirements. Her dietary needs were met with food and drink, which I couldn't cater for as her full-time carer. Unfortunately, she came to Newlands Care Home in the later stages of her condition and sadly only lived 23 days despite this I am full of admiration for how the manager and staff were able to provide the comfort she needed in her final days.
Although my mam has only been at Newlands Care Home for twelve days, I am very happy with the way she has settled in. The manager and receptionists are very friendly, helpful and welcoming. All the care team members seem very nice and helpful and show genuine care towards my mam. I'm no expert but from what I have seen, the staff are looking after my mam very well. My mam looks clean and comfortable, it's pleasing to know shes doing well at Newlands Care Home.
My mother was cared for in the Lonsdale Unit at Barchester Newlands Care Home during the Covid outbreak. Obviously, activities were restricted and there must have been severe staffing pressures, nevertheless, kindness and professional care were always displayed. Great effort was made to enable visits and I was always updated on any changes in my mother's condition.
