View Full Details of Summerhill Care HomeAfter my latest visit to see my dear mother yesterday I felt compelled to post a second review. Sadly Mum's dementia continues to progress but, despite this she always seems very well cared for and devours her meals. Kind and considerate staff go above and beyond the call of duty. Very grateful to all!
Our dad has been a resident for over a year now when he moved to Summerhill after a period of poor health. He soon improved with the support of the care team and has been in a steady state healthwise since then. Mentally he is much happier and less anxious as he knows the care team is there to help him when he needs it. We have been impressed by the whole team at Summerhill, from the receptionists to the managers we have met. Everyone seems genuinely engaged with the residents' well-being and willing to take time to talk to them and keep their spirits up.
My mother-in-law is receiving very good care at Summerhill. Staff and facilitates are welcoming, efficient and professional at all times. It certainly gives relatives confidence that their loved ones are being looked after well.
After five years of care at Summerhill, my mother has been well cared for, treated with respect and had her personal and medical needs attended to with kindness and good humour. I particularly appreciate that she is always referred to by her name, not 'love' or 'dear' or 'darling'.
The carers are very kind and caring with Gran, ensuring her needs are met. The staff in the home are friendly and always willing to help or answer questions. Gran's room is kept tidy and clothes are cleaned regularly. I do feel that the staff work hard and would sometimes benefit from more staff to meet the demands of some of the residents. They sometimes appear overstretched!
My aunt is happy here (though doesn't like the amount the fees are). The staff are very kind and attentive. The food is good, but she does forget to ask for it to be cut up for her.
Have settled in well here after struggling living on my own. Made to feel very welcome, safe and well looked after. The staff are very kind and supportive. I am staying in a very comfortable room with good facilities, amidst friendly residents. Meals offer a reasonable choice but quality can be variable and not always served very hot.
Our overall experience at Summerhill has been excellent. As visitors, we consistently receive a warm welcome which is so much appreciated. Mum's care is delivered with dignity and respect and always to a high standard. The kindness, demonstrated by staff, provides us with reassurance, confidence and great comfort.
I was lucky enough to acquire a room at Summer Hill five years ago for my mum. As I'm very hard to please, this was my mum's fourth care home. On my first visit, there was something homely about it. First off I think it was the staff and the length of time they had worked at Summer Hill. Secondly, the residents were allowed to be themselves, the ladies and gentlemen weren't made to go and sit down, my mum was quite vocal and would wander up and down, she was allowed to be herself. I would arrive to see my mum at very different hours, no one knew I was going and the consistency was true. I arrived one Saturday morning and from outside my mum's door I could hear a young man attending to mum, the way he spoke to her was lovely. Moving on to January 2024 Mum was near the end and a young staff member came to work on her day off so Mum wouldn't be on her own. I was with Mum when she passed 11/01/24, nurses and staff fantastic, looked after Mum and me. Thank you Windermere, can't thank you all enough.
I am very pleased with the service Mum has received in her first three weeks with you. The staff have been very professional and welcoming, which has been incredibly reassuring.
Sadly my wife passed away very peacefully and gracefully in January. She had a fabulous 18 months in Summerhill and was cared for with great skill and affection. All my family and friends were very impressed with the warm welcome they received and the lovely atmosphere in Summerhill, particularly the Buttermere Suite. As my wife was a very social and friendly person, she enjoyed being with others and was always invited to participate in the wide range of events and activities that Summerhill put on. Congratulations to the manager and staff for giving my wife a wonderful time.
This is a very pleasant, clean and welcoming home. The nurses are very good, kind and helpful. We had problems when he first arrived - no one came to see us in his room for over an hour, leaving us wondering what was happening and what to do. It was some weeks before we had any written information at all. Carers are mostly kind and helpful, though some seem a bit suspicious of family involvement and don't always manage to do the small things such as opening curtains, putting warm enough clothes on the residents and putting spectacles on. We are not sure all carers get the information they need for his individual needs - communication between them could be better, but we do understand that they have a heavy workload! They have told us that we are "not allowed" to do some things, but we had no prior information about such rules. We try to help them by helping him with a meal and giving him a drink as he can't do that himself. We are very grateful that he is in such a good home where he is warm, safe and given good nursing care.
My mum is looked after with loving care by the Buttermere staff. As I have to travel, I'm grateful for the welcome I receive from everyone. Sadly, my mum is very ill, but she is being looked after in a kind and caring way by all the Buttermere members of staff. Thank you for looking after my mum - she is very happy at Summerhill.
My wife has been here a week. She is now comfortable in her room and comfortable in Summerhill. She enjoys the food and thinks highly of the staff who are very cheerful. I was struck on my first visit with a welcoming and caring atmosphere.
We received a very warm welcome on Saturday morning from a lovely helpful receptionist. We then experienced a male activities team member who delivered a quiz on Thirlmere Suite. It was evident that he was very in tune with the residents and tailored the morning's entertainment to suit them. He was very kind and included everyone. The care staff were as usual on hand to answer any questions. They too clearly know their residents very well. The home is tastefully decorated, clean, and inviting. The atmosphere was calm and the staff appear to be happy and engaged with those in their care. There can't be a better care home. Well done to the team at Summerhill.
Our mum was very well cared for whilst at Summerhill. Staff were kind, hard-working, efficient and helpful and we are very grateful for all they did for Mum. Reception staff always took the time to chat with Mum and were always so kind, showing an interest in what she was doing and sharing a joke together. Buttermere staff always gave the impression that nothing was too much trouble and ensured that all Mum’s needs were met, along with those of all the other residents. They created a warm, family atmosphere in the unit and often went above and beyond for their residents (and residents' families). We were always well informed about Mum’s health and well-being. The well-being team are fantastic at providing varied activities and entertainment for the residents and take time to get to know them all personally. The well-tended garden was a good focus of a visit. A huge thank you to all the staff. You do an extremely important job and are very much appreciated.
Summerhill is a happy and friendly place, and the staff are all amazing.
Each time you enter and leave the home, you receive a warm welcome, and genuine interest is shown in how you and your family are. This atmosphere continues on to the unit, which I can only describe as perfect. All staff go about their work in a professional manner and are both friendly and helpful. It has been clear they are all really good with people, which brings residents and visitors alike. The staff took the time to chat with Dad, and I was delighted that they were jovial, having picked up that he had a good sense of humour. Dad’s room and the communal areas were always extremely clean. The meals were well-presented and nutritious. The care that the nurses provided blew me away. The clinical knowledge and experience of the nurses allowed them to manage Dad's ever-changing needs in a proactive way. The nurses are empathetic and took the time to keep in contact and explain anything I needed clarification on.
I attended Summerhill's first carol service since Covid with my mum. It was so nice to see all the residents who wanted to be there together and faces light up as they remembered the carols and joined in with the words. My mum loved it and I loved seeing the joy it sparked in her. A big thank you to the staff for organising and making it happen.
A warm welcome awaits visitors. This welcome by the staff extends to the floor we visit. It became clear from the beginning of our visit to Summerhill that all staff display commitment in every aspect of caring for the person. Kindness is displayed continuously. The person we visit mentions to us "how wonderful" the staff are. There is also mention of the lovely meals they are served daily. The overall cleanliness is excellent. The resident's lounge is beautiful. It is clear the decor/furniture has been throughout carefully for the comfort of all residents. Overall, my husband and myself believe the residents are well cared for and are happy and content during their time in Summerhill.
