View Full Details of Northlands Nursing HomeI visit Northlands Nursing Home once a month to do a communion service. I have between six to thirteen residents at a time. I sometimes visit at other times. In my experience, the staff are always friendly and engaging with me. The residents always look happy, well cared for and dressed appropriately. The staff always treat residents, family and friends with respect at all times.
My father was admitted to the home in October 2023. The care provided to him and his family was excellent to date. staff work hard to understand his needs, particularly with eating and communication. A couple of minor issues were raised with the manager, dealt with quickly and efficiently. Residents are treated as individuals with their choices being taken into account in care planning.
My husband was admitted to the home in October 2023. The staff was very welcoming from the start and the family has always been shown kindness and support.
I found the care and home excellent. Very helpful staff always going the extra mile to make residents and relatives comfortable and happy. The residents look very happy, safe and secure, which makes life in Northlands Nursing Home feel like a big family. The rooms are spacious, bright and clean. Plenty of activities are carried out every day and professionals come into the home regularly. Management is present every day in the home being involved and helping all the time making herself present! I'm so happy to be part of the team and I will recommend Northlands Nursing Home with all confidence and trust!
Staffing levels are a concern to me. Most of the regular staff have been there for a long time and are welcoming and helpful. However, more recently, there are lots of unfamiliar faces about the place, and the staff look weary and rushed. Standards of cleanliness around the home have slipped a little also. Having said that, my mum seems relatively happy and relaxed around the regular staff, who seem to work incredibly hard.
Very good experience of the home and care provided so far.
Northlands is an excellent care home and the delivery of care is exceptional. I am very reassured that my mother is being well looked after and that she is in a safe environment. There is always encouragement for her to be involved in the various activities that are regularly carried out and my mum is able to engage with other residents. The new lounge area has made a big difference, light and spacious with a lovely outlook and terrace. Improvements to the garden have made a much better impact to the front of the property which reflects on initial impressions. Overall, this is an extremely well-run care home with great staff well directed by the manager and senior care team.
My uncle has been in 6 months for recovery from a stroke and the home and staff are excellent with him. Made him feel so welcome and at home. The staff and manager do their best to care for all of the residents and are so great with all of them. Thank you so much.
My mother has now been in Northlands for 10 months and has settled in very well. Her room is adequate for her needs, and we have added some of her own furniture, pictures and photos, which have made it more homely for her. She is treated very well by all the staff, who are very caring towards her and treat her with dignity. She celebrated her 100th birthday there, and we were given a lot of support from the home, which made her birthday a very memorable occasion. The home is well run with very good and capable senior staff, who always make time for you.
The new signing-in method at the entrance is supervised by a member of staff, so a very safe environment. The door to the resident's area is coded separately to keep out intruders and to keep the residents safe if they have a tendency to wander. My mum was washed and dressed very nicely and was having seconds of porridge for breakfast as she had obviously enjoyed her first bowlful. The staff moved Mum and me to a separate room so we could chat so that there was no chance of spreading Covid to the other residents - and I wore a mask the whole time, even when Mum and I were alone. Although Mum has dementia, she is happy and settled at Northlands and is happy to see the staff. It is easy to tell when Mum is not happy as she will sit and mutter to herself and tell herself that she needs to go home. This doesn't happen at Northlands, as she feels like one of the family and has a routine that she is happy with. Lovely care home.
My father has been a resident of Northlands for over five years. When he first arrived, he was extremely frail and very ill. The care, dedication and attendance of the staff have enabled him to flourish and regain his good health. Recent and ongoing improvements to the home have transformed the physical attributes of the building, which is now inviting, modern, comfortable and clean. Dad is always treated with respect by the staff, and he particularly enjoys chatting with them, sharing anecdotes and stories from his past, as well as hearing all their news. The staff at Northlands always show Dad, me and the wider family respect. They share any concerns and involve him and us in his care. To sum up - Dad has regained a sense of purpose. Thank you.
My husband suffers from advanced Parkinson's Disease with associated dementia. He also arrived at the home from hospital with eight pressure sores, one of them so bad that the NHS said it could never be healed. Northlands staff have healed them all. All the staff know my husband well and treat him with the greatest kindness and respect. Within their busy schedules, they find time to pop in and chat with him, as well as deal with all his complex medical needs. Of course, there are difficulties, largely due to the Government's failure to fund the care sector adequately. The staff and management at Northlands do an amazing job of coping with these problems, which are not of their own making. I would give them all medals (not to mention much better pay and career prospects). They so deserve it.
My mam has been in the home now for 14 months. I don't have any worries or concerns about the level of care she receives. I understand how difficult it is to get staff, so once the home is up to full staff long level, they will be able to spend longer with the residents. You're doing a good job, team Northlands.
Northlands is a wonderful caring home. The manager and staff know each resident personally, which is a great comfort during these difficult times. The home looks great, and the rooms are spacious. I love the decking area outside.
My mother has been in Northlands for four years and her treatment has been second to none. I cannot praise the staff enough for all they have done to keep her safe and well especially during these last eight months. The home is very clean (doesn’t smell like an old folks home) there is know where hidden, they have an open-door policy. There is a daily menu choice which is fairly comprehensive, always looks and smells good and I have never heard a complaint from my mother. All staff are friendly and approachable and always helpful. There are a good range of activities from flower arrangements, drawing, karaoke, guest singers, cards and dominoes also outings are arranged. I have nothing but heartfelt gratitude towards all who work in Northlands and look after my mam the way I cannot.
After 25 years in General Practise and latterly for 10 years as a director (of Primary Care) of a health authority, I have experience of visiting many care homes. None compare with Northlands for their care, compassion and kindness. The home has recently been extensively refurbished to a high standard. Relatives and friends visiting my wife are all very impressed.
My mother is suffering from dementia and we managed to get her into Northlands. She felt straight at home with her room and building and the staff who are fantastic. The home is well set up for care and the staff are well trained and cannot do enough for you. The home is always clean and many of the rooms have been refurbished. I can thoroughly recommend Northlands Nursing Home and would like to thank all the staff for their professionalism and friendliness and knowledge in assisting my mother and the other residents.
I have watched quality of improvement about every aspect with delight and apprehension. My room and my husbands can reflect our wishes and we enjoy looking at and using various pictures and family photographs. I especially enjoy talking to the owner's father and various members of his family, especially separate ones.
A very short stay but my wife was cared for well.
The new owners are investing extensively in the property and it would be good to see them investing to the same extent in the staff, their most important asset. Happy, supported, well-trained staff are key to the residents’ comfort and wellbeing. The middle floor can be a lonely place in the evenings with few staff around and I am told it can take time to respond to residents’ call alarms when, for example, they need to go to the bathroom. There can be a lack of consistency regarding communication and delivering information. The staff, however, do care very much and do their best especially when they appear to be a little short on the ground.
