Plas-y-Dderwen always has friendly and helpful staff, and are always very welcoming. The facilities are excellent, with a fresh and clean atmosphere, and comfortable accommodation with a lovely view.
My Mum has been a resident at Plas-y-Dderwen care home since 2018. Mum loves it there, and I am extremely happy with the care that she receives. They have a variety of activities to suit everyone. The staff are extremely welcoming and always go above and beyond to help when needed.
I have no concerns about my mum being a resident at Plas y Dderwen. During her time there I have found that the care she has received to be excellent. I am kept well informed of the care she is receiving both during visits and by phone. All members of the team are kind and caring and I am very impressed with the everyday running of Plas y Dderwen. Thank you to everyone.
I found Plas-y-Dderwen Home very good. All staff very friendly and helpfull at all times. They made me feel welcome at all times. I would recomend The Home to my friends and family. All staff would go the extra mile to help.
My mother in law has been a resident at Plas y Dderwen care home for over a year. During this time i have nothing but praise for every person involved in her care. Within the care setting she is stimulated with various activities, celebration of events to which family are also invited and external visits, both individually and as part of a group. She is treated as an individual and her ongoing needs of care are assessed regularly. As her fmaily, we are kept updated to changes in her care and are contacted if any concerns arise. Personally the care that she has received has been exceptional, and as a care home the team should be very proud of what they are achieving. Thank you all.
My experience since I have been visiting from early last year has been positive. The overall care accessibility, friendliness and welcoming atmosphere of P.Y.D has all but overwhelmed me, and continues to do so on every visit. One things has just struck me, and that is I have made friends with members of the staff, and also many of of the lovely residents who I know by their first name. If asked by any person my opinion of P.Y.D it would all be positive.
To the layman the facility looks outstanding with purchases for events given as money no object. However after four months daily experience have found that considering the cost of nursing care it leaves much to be desired in terms of adequate Nos of staff particularly at weekends likewise the overseeing of medication by the medical team would appear to be found lacking. I have picked up no less than half a dozen tablets on the floor in this short time which obviously have not been administered correctly, there also seems to be a problem with shower facilities which is disturbing.
My Dad has been a resident of Plas Y Dderwen for almost 2 years now, and he has received excellent care through each stage of the progression of his condition. The staff and management are fantastic, and there are always numerous activities which the residents all engage with and enjoy.
Plas-y-Dderwen is a comfortable and pleasant care home. However, what makes it exceptional is the staff. The carers who look after my Mum are wonderfully kind and competent. They work tirelessly to make sure my Mum is safe and as comfortable as possible. All members of staff use my Mum's name when they greet her. She is treated with respect and dignity at all times.
I notice so much professionalism, care for and support towards all residents and families when I visit my mother at Plas y Dderwen. The carers, kitchen staff, cleaners and on-site staff do their jobs of an exceptionally high standard and go out of their way to ensure a happy, positive and safe environment across the home. The activities team constantly provide inclusive and fun and informative activities, talks, concerts and interactive workshops where everyone can join in, laugh and converse with each other. The management team are brilliant: they listen, they lead and make sure that the home is performing at its best at all times. My mother is very happy to be a resident and my mind is at rest knowing she is happy. Thank you Plas.
After my mother's fall and stay on a trolly in A&E from 9:00 am Tuesday until 6pm Wednesday at the age of 93 it became apparent that it was cruel to leave her there even though she had been given the go ahead to leave - with a fractured pelvis. I contacted the care home Plas-y-Dderwen and my mother was admitted that evening. The manager was wonderful in organising and eased my anxiety and the staff have been wonderful to her. It is a short stay but I know that the care she will receive will help her with her recovery and it has allowed me to have time to organise things for her homecoming.
Such a lovely, safe place. Always a nice welcome from staff and plenty of activities always on the agenda! I am just glad to see my mother-in-law being cared for and happy. Love seeing the social media posts! Thank you.
Each time I have been in to Barchester Plas-y-Dderwen Care Home to see or phone to speak to our mother, I am immediately impressed with the friendliness, current knowledge of and interest in mum by the member of staff I'm talking to. 28th October was just such a visit; from the manner of the staff and the surroundings I had a confidence that she was being well looked after, that the staff knew her and about her, feeling a genuine interest in her as our mother, not merely as a logbook entry. Her room was clean and tidy, the route from the front door similarly so and, stopping in to ask after her in the day-room, the staff welcoming, on the ball and displaying a professional as well as personal competence. The staff keep us, the remotely living families, involved and aware of what is going on, either with excellent captioned photos on social media or with an occasional email. It is clear, when I have been at the home when an activity is on how animated and personal it is not remotely patronising. A huge thank you to all involved.
My husband spent the final three years of his life at Barchester Plas-y-Dderwen Care Home, suffering from advanced dementia. He has been treated with affection and dignity throughout and the staff have become friends to us, as his family. I will miss their smiles and our chats. The atmosphere at this care home is a happy one and has given me reassurance at a time when I felt that I should have kept my husband at home for longer, even though I was struggling. There is a range of facilities on offer and every attempt made to create a feeling of community. The food at Plas-y-Dderwen is of an excellent standard and is served in an impressive dining room. I would not hesitate to recommend Plas-y-Dderwen to anyone looking for care for a loved one.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Plas-y-Dderwen to anyone who needs this sort of care.
I had a lovely welcome from all staff who were friendly and helpful throughout my stay. My room was pleasant and clean, as was the home generally. I enjoyed the activities which were varied and I was encouraged to join in. The food was very good also. For me, the breakfast was a bit too late as the staff were busy getting other residents up before they could serve breakfast, also I was unable to get a cup of tea when I woke up as there were no cups or milk available.
My mom was in Barchester Plas-y-Dderwen Care Home for respite for two weeks. She was very apprehensive about going but was immediately put at ease by the friendly welcome from staff. She made friends and enjoyed taking part in the activities on offer. She smiled and laughed a lot more whilst she was there and felt reassured that she had people around her who were very caring and thoughtful. Mom thought the food was nice and she ate very well there. Plas-y-Dderwen has good facilities and is a clean, pleasant environment. Thank you to all the staff who made her stay so pleasant.
My mother-in-law had been a resident at Plas-y-Ddrewen for over two years before she sadly passed away on 24th March. I would like to commend the home for the outstanding care and love my mother-in-law was shown whilst there. Also, as a family, we too were treated exceptionally, nothing was ever too much, from the admin staff, carers and nursing staff. Also, the manager transforms the home.
