View Full Details of Ty Gwyn Care HomeMum has been at Ty Gwyn now for 18 months and she has settled in and is very happy there. All the staff are extremely caring and always trying to make the residents feel at home. I just wanted to share our recent experience when Mum had to go into hospital due to an emergency. I was away at the time and I cannot praise everyone who was on duty highly enough for how they looked after Mum. Some of the staff should have finished their shift but they stayed with her until the ambulance arrived and she was taken to hospital. Mum is now back at Ty Gwyn and I can honestly say if it wasn't for their caring efforts and quick thinking on that day things would have been so very different. So a very heartfelt thank you. It is always an extremely difficult decision for loved ones to go into a care home but I have to say it was the best decision Mum and our family have made.
My 95-year-old mum went into Ty Gwyn for respite care from hospital after a fall at home and broken pelvis. As she lived independently she has had difficulty making the transition into needing nursing care. I visit frequently at odd hours, always numerous staff on duty and willing to help with any request. The staff have been fantastic, professional management under the manager and I would particularly like to mention the nurses and the carers with whom I have regular contact. This is in no order and to the many others I see working professionally but I don't know personally. My mother came in tired, confused and anxious after a transfer. A staff member came into her room, held her hand for an hour and talked to her about life in the home, what to expect and just engaged with her (my mum would say as a person and not a sack of potatoes). She is always happy and just an angel. The housekeeping is excellent and the home always smells fresh.
My dad has only been with them a very short time, after a long hospital stay. The staff here listen to any concerns you have and act with care and compassion. My dad had a major heath crisis. The staff were there in seconds and dealt with everything, including me being in a state, professionally and swiftly.
Putting our parents into nursing care was probably the hardest decision we have ever made however when we first visited Ty Gwyn Care Home we were met by friendly faces, beautiful decor and a feeling that they would be in safe hands. The building is light, clean and feels more like a hotel than a nursing home. We were able to personalise the rooms which helped them to adjust to their new way of life much quicker than we had hoped for. My parents were treated with respect and the staff really do operate well as a team. The activities are well planned, the meals delicious and nothing was ever too much trouble. They were well supported and my family will be forever grateful.
I cannot speak too highly about you all. Your kindness to my husband and myself has always been first-class and I would recommend you to anyone. It wasn’t the easiest decision to find a home for my husband but you have made me sure I made the right choice.
My wife has been in your care nearly three years now and in that time, she has been treated as a person, not as a number. I have got to know the staff by sight, if not always by name! If they have any concerns about her well-being, I am kept informed. I am always made welcome when I visit, so I rate your care highly.
My mother has had respite care at Ty Gwyn Care Home. She has felt welcomed and cared for. The nurses and care workers are professional, kind and caring. Activities are fun and interesting. The management team are efficient and friendly. Food is tasty. Rooms are clean and comfortable. We are very happy with the whole stay.
I visit Ty Gwyn Care Home on a regular basis. The home is always clean and tidy and the staff are very welcoming and friendly. I mostly meet residents in the first-floor lounge which seems to be a place where residents feel comfortable and are able to interact together and enjoy a variety of activities and develop friendships together. On the occasions I have visited residents in their own rooms, they appear spacious and residents are comfortable and able to have belongings around them from their own homes.
My father has been a resident of Ty Gwyn since December 2022. We feel the home provides a friendly and happy environment. Whenever I visit, the staff always seem to impart information on what my father has eaten and done that day, without being asked. The home is kept spotlessly clean and the food is good.
I am always kept up to date with Mum's care and any changes in her needs. She has been at the home for nearly two years and I have complete peace of mind that she is looked after 24 hours a day. Everyone is always pleasant and helpful when I visit and as I live some distance away, visits are infrequent for me so I rely on speaking to my mum several times a day. Whenever I ring to ask about something or when I e-mail I always get a positive response. Thank you to all involved.
Very caring and compassionate staff. There is always a friendly welcome. My dad is treated with care, respect and dignity. There is an activity going on every day, which sadly, my dad is unable to take part in.
Can I say the staff at Ty Gwyn care home are very nice to all the residents and their familes. The residents are all included in the activities on the days.
A heartfelt "Thank you" to Ty-Gwyn and all the caring/friendly and dedicated staff who cared for my Mum over the last 4 years. The care, compassion and dignity given to Mum and ourselves was second to none and helped us through these very sad times. Over 4 years, we were treated with respect by staff who would always go the extra mile! A welcoming residence that gave us confidence and trust of our loved one in their care. We will always remember Ty-Gwyn with appreciation and gratitude.
My brother has been in Ty Gwyn for 5 months after undergoing hospital surgery which left him unable to care for himself. He is heavily dependent on the care home staff, who have been very supportive of his needs. I have found the manager and admin staff efficient and always available to respond to any questions I have.
It was a very difficult decision, putting my much-loved mum into a nursing home, particularly as she desperately wanted to retain her independence but after several falls at home, concern for her safety and care made it essential. Ty Gwyn is run in a very professional, caring manner meaning we can all rest, knowing Mum is well looked after and safe. The staff are all extremely kind and friendly and it is lovely to see her laughing and joking with them. She very much enjoys the activities that the staff put on during the day, something that I think is important to give all the residents a sense of purpose and achievement. Due to the situation with covid at the moment, the limit on visits is obviously not ideal but hopefully, once the warmer weather comes, we will be able to enjoy the lovely outdoor area safely.
I cannot begin to say how thrilled I was to join via zoom in Ty Gwyn 's Christmas Carol Concert on Sunday the 19th of December. The service was very well prepared and the residents who took part in the Bible readings, were very clear and were encouraged and supported by the chaplain and carers. The highlight for me was to hear my mother singing at the top of her voice the various carols and it took me back to the times when she would sing in our chapel where she would attend every week. My mother is so happy in the home and it's such a comfort for us to know that she is so settled. Thank you very much.
My mother has been a resident of Ty Gwyn for over 3 years and the quality of her care has been outstanding. The staff are friendly and professional and the running of the home is overseen by a manager that is always available and approachable. It gives me great peace of mind that my mother is being well looked after.
I moved my Dad from another Care Home in the Vale of Glamorgan to Ty Gwyn in Penarth in August 2021 due mainly to restrictions from the coronavirus and his failing psychological health, the factors being not being able to see his family frequently or allowed to come out safely for short trips without returning to strict isolation for 2 weeks. Ty Gwyn are, of course, governed by strict safety guidelines (LFT's masks etc) but TY Gwyn made it possible for us to regularly see Dad/take him out and the change in my Dad is enormous. He is happier, looks better physically and improved psychologically. The manager and staff are kind, supportive and professional.
When I was looking for a nursing home for my mum, a lot of friends from the Penarth area recommended Ty Gwyn Care Home. So I felt a certain amount of confidence. Although putting a relative in care is a difficult decision for any family member to make, the process and staff at Ty Gwyn were wonderful. My mum is very happy and settled there, it is a huge weight off my shoulders, as I am not local to Penarth. They are caring, kind and always happy to help, ensuring Mum's best interests are served. My mum always looks well dressed she has her hair done every week and her nails, attends various craft and activity sessions. They have an amazing activities coordinator who puts together a weekly programme for them. Mum also enjoys the food, always telling me how lovely it is. During Covid, the staff have been extremely effective at following guidelines to minimise risk to residents.
The manager runs a very good nursing home. She and her office manager, are very responsive to any requests and are very pleasant to deal with. The manager noticed my mother needed some more night garments which, with covid measures, we hadn’t ourselves noticed. We appreciated this kind thought and replaced them immediately. The front garden is full of stunning flowers which makes our outdoor meetings a pleasure. Mum is happy in the home and likes the carers who take an interest in talking with her. Keep up the great work, Thank you.
