View Full Details of Hollins Care CentreWe took the hard decision to admit my mother into care as her needs had gotten to much for the family to manage, our district nurse got her a placement at Hollins Care Centre. We have been overwhelmed with the level of care and attention that my mum and us as a family have had all the staff have been amazingly helpful. The nurses have gone above and beyond with Mam's care and discussed every decision with us and acted upon anything we have raised. They have been very accommodating with the family being by Mum's bedside as she's deteriorated. We are very grateful for this.
This has to be the worst Nursing home I have ever come across. My father was only here for one month before we removed him due to safeguarding concerns. The staff are overworked and constantly short-staffed and unable to meet the needs of residents. This is totally ignored by the Manager and Owner. Their main concern is filling beds and making money. I left messages for them to ring me to discuss my concerns but they never returned my calls. In 4 weeks there were drug errors, lost glasses, lost hearing aids, lost clothes, pressure sores developing as left in bed for too long. He lost 8lb in 2 weeks due to missing meals as they would get him up late (due to being short-staffed) serve breakfast at 12noon and then he wasn't hungry for lunch. He was surviving on 2 meals a day and he's diabetic! We received phone calls from him saying he was hungry and thirsty! Thank god it is under scrutiny by CIW and no admissions allowed. This place needs to be closed down for good!
The lift was out of order over the last 3 weeks - the entire duration of my Mother-in-law's stay. I found the staff to be friendly enough but very overstretched. My Mother-in-law was unable to walk and needed help to get to the bathroom. She was regularly told that staff were too busy to take her or after asking to be taken she was left waiting over 30 minutes. I think this is unacceptable. Following the passing of my Mother-in-law, the family were very concerned about the lack of dignity she was afforded. I am also upset by the treatment of family who came to see her when they were notified she had passed; there was no care or concern for their feelings about how she ought to have been cared for. Comparing this with my experiences with care homes for my family members; this was significantly worse - very disappointing care.
The care staff are superb, unfortunately the management and the proprietor have no idea or don't care what needs to be done. The only lift has been out for 7 weeks, which means the residents on the first floor are confined to 2 rooms in the day, with no stimulation at all. The staff have to carry breakfast, lunch & dinner up a flight of stairs which leaves little time to 'care' for the residents - the staff are at breaking point & the management/proprietor do nothing.
