View Full Details of Glan-yr-AfonMy mother died in Glan yr Afon in November 2024 having spent the last 8 months of her life there. It was a difficult decision for me to arrange for her to go into a care/nursing home setting because you always fear that she might not receive the standard of care that she deserved. My fears were unfounded because throughout her stay she was handled with great professionalism and with dignity and respect. Many thanks to all the staff there.
My mother has been in for the past 2 weeks now she is a permanent resident here now. The care and the assistant are brilliant, I was worried about my mother going into a care home but I don't need to worry at all, what my mother has had in these two weeks is brilliant the care and assistant is very good. They are all well looked after. They do a lot of activities every day. When the weather is fine they take them out for a stroll or a meal. I highly recommend the care home for anyone who is in need. All the staff are so polite and very helpful with anything you need and it is very safe too.
My mother became a resident at Glan in early October, from the first meeting we had with the staff it was a very pleasing experience, very gentle conversation with Mam very patient and kind. I was kept informed every step of the way on the transfer from the hospital to Glan, Mam settled in quite well and is happy. The home is clean and well presented and the staff are very helpful kind and patient. I am so pleased that I chose Glan-y-Afon as the staff has made the transition stress-free for me. I would just like to say a big thank you to the staff.
We as a family cannot thank the manager and his wonderful staff for the care, support and kindness our mother received during her time with them. Everyone made her feel so welcome when she first arrived, engaging her in a number of activities and events they held and we as a family felt part of the Glan family during the year she spent with you. Sadly in January 2024, she was diagnosed with a life-limiting condition, which she finally succumbed to in April of this year. However, the care, support and compassion she was shown during this period was second to none and we as a family shall always be eternally grateful to all the staff there. One of her wishes was to receive her end-of-life care in Glan-yr-Afon, which was undertaken with such dignity and care by the staff so her final days were peaceful and a source of great comfort to the family. We shall be eternally grateful to everyone at Glan-yr-Afon for the care, compassion and support they gave to our mother during her final year.
I must say my wife had so much care from all the staff until she passed. She was cared for a lot, they always said she had such a lovely smile for everyone. I highly recommend Glan Y Afon Care Home to those who would their parents to be cared for. They were wonderful to my wife, many thanks for all your support.
My mother was cared for at Glan-Yr-Afon from June 2022 until she passed away in July 2024. The care and respect she received from every individual each day was second to none. My mother was really happy there which was a great comfort to me. I cannot fault the staff, who worked extremely hard to make sure Mam was well cared for and all her health needs were met. I would highly recommend Glan-Yr-Afon to anyone. I appreciate everything they did for my mother during her time there.
I cannot thank the Glan family enough for all the care they delivered to my mom. She was looked after with such dedication and compassion. The home is welcoming, friendly and maintains a person’s individuality. All staff groups - carers, nurses, cleaners, management and caterers showed empathy and consideration in abundance. Exceptional care by exceptional people.
My Mother, who was a very private and independent woman, realized on September 22 that she needed full-time care, as she was continually falling. She was 91 at the time. We were lucky enough to get a place in Glan Yr Afon care home, and within two weeks we, and she, knew it was the right decision. The staff was marvelous. She could be very rude, but the staff were so kind and understanding that she loved being there. However, in early February 24, (17 months after going into the home), she suffered an inoperable condition and was transferred to the hospital. She knew that she was dying, and started palliative care there, but all the time, she wanted to go back to Glan Yr Afon to die, because she said that she loved it there and had so many friends among the staff. She was so happy to go back, even though she passed away a couple of days later. I (and all the family) cannot speak highly enough of the home... they gave her 17 additional enjoyable months of life!
Five stars would never be enough to rate the care and compassion given to my father and my family, especially in the last few weeks of his life at Glan-yr-Afon care home. Management and staff were outstanding, nothing was too much. I speak on behalf of my dad, myself and my family when I say we couldn't have got through it without this special team. The care and dignity they gave him was unbelievable and so special. I couldn't thank everyone enough.
Our mam was transferred here as she needed more care than the old home could give. She was always immaculately dressed and taken care of. The staff are so helpful and friendly. It really had a family home feeling. It was a real pleasure to visit. Always arranging family days of fun and entertainment. Amazing care home and would highly recommend to any person who needed care for a family member. Thank you for loving Mam as much as we did.
Following a fall at his residential home, my dad spent four weeks in hospital. Due to him becoming bedbound he was unable to return to the home and needed a nursing home. As a family we had no hesitation in choosing Glan-yr-Afon as our mum spent the last two weeks of her life there in 2017. Sadly, Dad passed away on the 10th of October 2023, with his family by his bedside constantly for the last four days of his life. The love, care and support given to Dad, Mum and us by the Glan-yr-Afon family was amazing, loving, totally professional, compassionate and considerate, from the management team right the way across all staff, including carers, nurses, maintenance and catering team. We felt like we were part of the family that is Glan-yr-Afon, they laughed and cried with us and gave our parents a dignified passing. Their support and love in 2017 and in 2023 helped us through the darkest of times and we cannot thank or praise them enough.
My aunty has received excellent care at home. All staff are caring and courteous, very attentive and nothing is too much trouble. Many activities to occupy residents, including days out to local tourist spots and meals out. Well done to all.
My wife transferred from hospital to the Glan-yr-Afon care home after several long stays in hospital where it became obvious that she was not capable of caring for herself in her own home even with a care package in place. The move was a little traumatic at first and she took a little time to settle into her new environment. The staff and management were excellent in welcoming her and trying to make her feel part of the home. Her health has improved greatly since taking up residence at the home. It is extremely encouraging to see how the staff and management work together with a hands on attitude which gives a sense of team effort and a clear commitment by all. Nothing is too much trouble for them and a welcome for visitors is always there and encouraged. A well-run and managed home to a high standard.
My dad is currently a resident of Glan-yr-Afon and has been since February 2022. As a new process for myself, I can't thank the manager enough for his help and support throughout my dad's transition from the hospital. Dad resides in a ground-floor room which provides views out over the garden. All staff I have met or become involved with shows empathy, compassion and professionalism in all aspects of their daily roles. Any member of staff is approachable and will do their utmost to help you with any issue/concern you have. As my dad has swallowing problems, all his dietary needs are met and always fresh, hot and provided in house every time. Such a happy and supportive home which provides a warm and caring environment for all who reside there. I really like the feeling of belonging to a large family unit and know I can approach any member of staff and be helped with any problem I have.
Mam has been a resident at Glan-yr-Afon for four months, all the staff are very caring and considerate and always keep me up to date with how Mam is doing on a day-to-day/weekly basis. Nothing is too much trouble for them, I know Mam is safe, well looked after and all her needs are being taken into account, she is happy and I can see she loves the company of all the staff. The staff become your second family and the nursing care is second to none. I would highly recommend Glan-yr-Afon.
When Mam went into Glan-yr-Afon, she had been poorly and in hospital. She’s lost weight and muscle mass. Since being in Glan-yr-Afon, her mobility has improved, she’s gained weight and meal times haven’t been an issue (liquid diet before, puréed now). The standard of care is excellent. All of the staff are friendly, very caring and supportive to both Mam and me. Mam now enjoys the activities, the company of both staff and residents, the food, the atmosphere and most of all, the care she receives. I did obviously have concerns when Mam’s care was taken out of my hands, but it’s the best decision I made, and that is thanks to all of the staff and the welcome she’s received. Mam is more chatty, smiles more and loves all the staff equally and just generally enjoys life again. Mam and I have now got a Mother/Daughter relationship again, and that’s priceless.
High nursing care standards throughout my stay. A sympathetic ear if needed. General advice is always on offer.
Whilst we have had some teething problems, the manager and the staff always work with us to overcome these. The manager always strives to do what is right for the residents and you can see that he genuinely cares about all of them. The home is lovely and Mam is clearly receiving very good care. The food at the home is exceptional, very good quality and always presented nicely for the residents. Overall, my sister and I feel that Mam really is in safe hands and for that we will be eternally grateful.
My mother has been a resident here for 5 months, in that time I have found the staff and manager very caring and kind, what was a very difficult time having to go into residential care was made so much easier for my mother and myself. I am so glad she was able to get a place here, nothing is too much trouble and my mother's needs are looked after very well.
It was a very daunting experience having to discuss the care needs of my parents and the staff at Glan-Yr-Afon made it a painless process. We have been involved in all aspects of their care needs, especially my father, who has been included in social activities which have stimulated his mind, which is essential as he has Parkinson's. Many thanks to the activity nurses who work tirelessly with the residents to ensure their interests are taken into account. The nurses and care workers are very approachable and helpful, as are the manager and office staff who do all they can to offer us, as a family, ongoing support. The setting is very welcoming, clean and in good order. Family members are encouraged to visit loved ones and are encouraged to attend fundraising activities and coffee and cake events and I look forward to the Christmas activities at Glan-Yr-Afon.
