View Full Details of Methven HouseWe were apprensive about Dad going into a care home but from the very first visit our fears dissappeared and its been a month since our Dad went into Methven House and the difference in him is astounding! Since we lost my mother he had become very withdrawn and disheartened. But from the very first day the staff and management have been so welcoming and made him feel right at home. They took the time to get to know him, his likes and dislikes and talk to him like they have known him for ever. On a recent visit he was sitting with friends singing and laughing and looked like a different man. We are very happy with Methven house, it's cosy and warm with lots of activities to keep Dad busy.
Overall most staff are friendly and helpful. They appear caring towards our dad. Of late, we are not sure if there is an entertainment person organising activities etc and outings in the minibus. We feel that social interaction is very important, especially for people with the onset of dementia. On the whole, the room is clean but there have been times when it hasn't, especially the floor.
I have generally found the care home to be very good. My wife is happy enough with the care that the staff give her.
My grandad has recently moved into the nursing home, he is very settled and the staff and management have been great. My grandad enjoys the food and social interactions with the staff. His room is lovely, spacious and clean.
Dad having quite recently has moved in and overall as a family find everything very good with no complaints. All staff very friendly with Dad and his family. His care is also very good. The home is very clean. As a family we were all so very anxious knowing Dad was moving to a nursing home with no need as Dad has settled in with the help of the staff and management.
My father moved to Methven house 2 weeks ago after losing his wife in December and being diagnosed with bowel cancer himself. We were worried sick and it is the hardest decision my dad and us as a family have ever had to make. I can honestly say every member of staff is so welcoming and friendly and we can sleep at night knowing when Dad gets up to the toilet he is safe. The food is fresh and home made and all staff are so kind to dad and to us when we visit. We can now enjoy quality time with Dad in his lovely room and get him out when the weather is nice. I have worked in care homes myself and am now NHS staff and I have high standards of care. I’m very happy with Methven house and all the staff here. The activities ladies are wonderful and organise fun activities, sing songs and bus trips. I feel the staff here really do care about patients well being and happiness and deserve recognition for all their hard work and dedication.
I don't feel that my husband has to go to sleep in his clothes that he has worn all day and due to this, they don't change his pull-up pants until the next day which I feel is very unsatisfactory. I also supply my husband's pants but the night staff feel it's alright to take them which I don't. I will put a bill in the next time they are taken.
New management has made an improvement. Displays are updated. New uniforms for staff are smart too. Willingness to speak with relations is also positive. Medical care is great. Mum has had a number of medical infections, I've been informed on every occasion. Fruit is provided to Mum weekly as requested. Mum is still reluctant to be involved with activities so her nails are painted now and again on a one-to-one basis. She likes the attention. Food remains a concern. Mum doesn't like it very much and choice is limited for her plain eating choices.
Overall my wife and I have found her father's experience very positive. Communication from staff and management has been open and clear. The staff have been welcoming and have connected in an open and friendly way. That openness along with opportunities to connect with others through various activities has been helpful. The room is clean and tidy. We are unable to comment on value for money as we, at this moment in time do not know what we are required to pay.
When I first came in February 2022 I was not settled at all. It took a long time for me to settle in. However, now I am a lot more settled because I am treated properly by the staff.
On arrival at the home, there was no one at the reception desk to let us in. There was another visitor waiting who ended up phoning and asked someone to come and let us in! Whilst visiting my mother we wanted to speak to a member of staff but none were to be found. We eventually found four members of staff in a small sitting room off the dining room watching TV. All the while we were there someone’s buzzer was going off and not answered! On leaving the home we went to the main office to make sure my mother had enough funds in her account. There was one member of staff in the office who attended to us reluctantly but again there were other visitors waiting to come in and had been waiting a while and I think if we hadn’t been going out they would have had a longer wait. Staff aren’t very friendly or approachable and not to have reception manned is a poor show!
