View Full Details of St Olaf Care HomeMy cousin has been in St Olaf Care Home since April. It took a while for her to settle and for the staff and her to get to know each other. I have been happy with the way I have been kept informed of events. I always feel welcomed and she is far more settled now. She gets out for walks, weather and staff availability permitting, which she enjoys.
Really appreciated being included in some of the Christmas entertainment that was organised in December. Thoroughly enjoyed the pantomime and party. My sister appreciated being able to attend the Christmas lunch. All the activities we went to started earlier than was indicated on the information sent out/weekly planner. Now we know this happens we'll try and be more organised for future events. Both of us travel a distance so quite a bit of planning is involved and timings are also dependent of traffic and road conditions.
Dad moved to St Olaf Care Home in December following 30 months in another care home where he received very poor care. The decision to move was not easy but vital for him. At the point of his move Dad was non verbal and bed bound. Thanks to Social Work and the Manager at St Olaf for assessing Dad and supporting his move. Within 24 hours of his move Dad was at a Christmas party enjoying the celebrations of a loving, caring environment. He has a fabulous room. We never thought that Dad would be out of bed again. The staff at St Olaf are just exceptional. The environment is lively, homely and supportive. Previously, Dad had lost a lot of weight and was very frail. Within an hour of arrival at the home Dad was receiving a bowl of home made soup and since has enjoyed fabulous home made meals with choices provided. Dad has put on weight and is now talking, participating in activities and enjoying a loving and caring environment. We cannot thank the staff of St Olaf enough.
A very pleasant welcome from all the staff for my incapacitated spouse when we had to transfer her from hospital, into a well appointed room with all the facilities available to care for her increasing needs.
I don't have to worry about Mum and Dad because I know that they are in caring and patient hands. The manager is very hands-on and a great communicator. She creates a very calming and peaceful home for the residents of St. Olaf. The staff are friendly and approachable and go out of their way to discuss Mum and Dad and answer any questions that I have. The facility is very safe, clean, cozy, and welcoming and looks so festive during the Christmas season. There are also many fun activities that have engaged my parents, especially around the holidays. My dad likes to walk and he gets out with one of the nurses for some daily free air! I am very relieved that we have found St. Olaf because they have made, what can be a very stressful time for families, into a dignified and respectful experience.
My dad has resided at St Olaf for a few months now where the staff have cared well for him. Tragically Dad is now at end of life which is extremely difficult for us all. It is so supportive that the staff not only take care of your loved one but also you and your family, being kind and compassionate in their approach, it means a lot. Dad has not been able to take part in the activities since the beginning of October so it's difficult for me to comment on this. It would be useful to have a private space available for meetings. I believe that the staff from the management down really care about the residents and at the end of the day this is all we all want, to be cared for in a kind and compassionate way in our last years. Thank you to St Olaf!
My mum has been at St Olaf since February 2024. She was very subdued at first but with the staff's help and care she is now joining in the daily activities and eating and smiling more. The outdoor summer events were enjoyable for residents, family and friends. We always feel welcomed by the staff when visiting Mum too.
My Dad is well cared for. The staff are kind and compassionate and seem to know him well. Food concerns have been addressed and Dad seems to be enjoying most meals. More fresh fruit snacks would be good. A local Church minister is visiting now and there have been lots of social activities. The events coordinator works very hard to provide varied activities. Staff always welcome me, my mum and family members. We are part of the St Olaf family now, I feel. My criticism of no private meeting room was discussed and the building does not have a space that could be dedicated for this. Staff are trying hard to hold meetings in areas where they can limit noise and disturbance. In my professional role, I recently recommended The Meallmore Group to a patient as an option for permanent care because of my experiences with St Olaf.
My relative has been a resident at St Olaf's for over a year and is settled there. As visitors, we are always made to feel welcome, and all staff, particularly the care team, are skilled, caring and compassionate towards all the residents. All staff know all the residents and most of the visitors by name, which creates a nice community and family atmosphere. We are informed quickly of incidents involving our relatives and are given updates regularly during the course of recovery. The activities are varied and effort is made to get as many of the residents involved as possible which is appreciated. The food could be more varied, and sometimes on a hot day, they are given 'winter food' (e.g. soup or haggis neeps and tatties), but my relatives does seem to eat well and enjoy meals, even if they say they don't like it after! The team is always as accommodating as possible to provide whatever the residents request at meal times, even outside of the main menu.
My mum has been in St Olaf since March 2023 and has settled really well. She enjoys getting outside in the garden for walks and loves the activities such as the knitting club and music afternoons. The staff are very helpful and always have a chat. Overall the food is good but Mum really enjoys the home baking. The home manager and deputy are approachable and nothing is too much bother - this applies to all staff. I always feel welcome when I visit as do our whole family.
My Dad has been a resident in St Olaf for the past 4 years and throughout this period he has been treated with care and compassion, and always in a friendly manner. The staff have been excellent, always willing to engage with Dad and have taken the time and effort to build a personal rapport with him. This has greatly helped him settle in to the daily routine of living in a Care Home. Dad always comments on the excellent food, and entertainment is regularly provided for the residents. Staff will always call me to advise any instances where Dad has had a fall or accident, this is done very quickly which is much appreciated.
My parents moved to St Olaf about a year ago. They have been treated with the utmost care and respect in that time. My mother has nothing but praise for the staff. Sadly my father passed away recently and several staff chose to attend the funeral, which was much appreciated. They have been kindness itself with my mother after the loss. Over the year, activities have significantly improved and it would be lovely to see outings added to the mix. Food quality, on the other hand, seems to have deteriorated over the same period. The open door policy is a real plus, with visitors able to access it at any reasonable time via a passcode. The building and rooms are beautifully maintained and it does not have the 'typical smell'of a care home.
My wife has been at St Olaf for a year now and I'm very happy with the way she has been looked after. All staff are dedicated and caring from the manager to the housekeeping staff. My wife enjoys the food, comfort and activities. I feel very welcome every time I visit. There is a fun caring atmosphere every day.
My father was resident in St Olaf Care Home for the last two months of his life. We had had to be with him around the clock for two months prior to that and were at breaking point. It was an enormous relief when, to all my questions, the answer was, 'yes, we do that'. I cannot fault the care Dad received, it was excellent, including his end-of-life care. It could not have been better in a hospice, and was all the better for being in his own room with his own belongings around him. All the staff and doctors are very caring, considerate and respectful. I was with my father constantly during his last days and not only was Dad well taken care of but I was too, including meals and cups of tea/coffee whenever I needed them. Nothing was too much trouble. The rooms and the home in general are kept spotless, Dad's clothes kept clean and tidy and linen and towels changed daily. In fact it is like a very homely hotel but with added personal and nursing care. I cannot thank them enough.
My father has been a resident of the care home for four years now and although there has been a number of staff changes over this period I have found them to be friendly and helpful including during lockdown. St. Olaf’s is a well-appointed, medium-sized care facility which is always clean and tidy. The activities staff try their best to organise events within the care home. I know it would be difficult to staff short outdoor trips but I would have liked to have seen that opportunity. My father enjoys the meals served there and visiting family are often offered tea, coffee and cake. Communication is important and the staff are pretty good at updating me regarding any medical care for my father and if he’s had any falls which is rare.
I found the whole process of getting my friend into St Olaf very easy and was reassured that they would be well looked after. With the help of the staff they have really come on with lots of things they were unable to do before i.e. eating without assistance, walking short distances with help of a zimmer. I have seen a big difference in them and truly believe it is down to the staff and surroundings. They have settled in very well and I am delighted with all aspects of St Olaf nursing home.
My Wife has been in St Olaf Nursing and Care home for over a year and has been very well nursed and cared for by their dedicated and devoted staff, who are very well trained and motivated. I visit her virtually every day and am always welcomed with a cup of tea, and an update on her condition, by friendly nurses and carers. My wife is now confined to bed and while the rooms give privacy, and have en suite facilities, the staff are in regular attendance, and everyone is on Christian name terms, including visitors. There are no time constraints on visiting, and some relations are there for much of the day. The food service is varied and of excellent quality, with a choice of menu, and I have enjoyed several meals there when visiting. My family and I are very pleased with all aspects of the service provided at St Olaf.
Very happy with the care and staff. No concerns regarding my father's stay. Staff is always helpful and caring, but sometimes a high turnover/use of bank staff who do not know him. Food is generally fine, but some issues from several residents.
Very pleased with all aspects of this care home. My husband requires quite a lot of nursing, and everyone treats him with kindness and respect. Nothing seems to be too much trouble, and if we ask for something, it is provided if possible. Everywhere is kept very clean. The food is varied and very good.
My mother spent her last 6 months at St Olaf’s. My experience of her care and her time there was wholly positive. The staff were caring and professional, the home was welcoming and nicely decorated. I felt supported at a difficult time and was always confident that my mother was safe, cared for and respected. I was given an insight into the challenging job that care staff do and was impressed by the efforts they made to deliver a personalised and first-rate service to the residents.
