View Full Details of Barchester Pentland View Care HomeThe care my husband is given is of the highest quality. Also, the activities are amazing. Always stimulating and enjoyable. The staff are friendly and vigilant to the needs of the relatives as well as being exemplary. I personally have felt 'listened to' by staff/management and been shown great kindness.
We have had such a positive experience, as a family, with the care my dad is receiving at Barchester Pentland View Care Home since he has resided there these past few months, I felt the need to share. We have found the staff to always be professional, friendly and really caring towards my dad and other residents under extremely challenging situations. The care assistants, activity coordinators, nurses, management and domestic staff all do a brilliant job with a much-needed dose of humour and show tremendous kindness towards residents who at this stage in their life may have more advanced stages of dementia. I have found them to be honest and transparent when there have been issues with my dad. Above all, they have shown compassion and understanding not only towards my dad but also my mum who has been going through a tough time with the transition of my dad going into residential care. Well done Pentland View!
My wife has been a resident of Pentland View for two years, and I cannot praise the staff enough. The care is excellent and I have no worries or concerns. I am kept well informed and can contact the staff if I need to.
My wife was admitted to the nursing home in December 2023 suffering from dementia from day one the staff have been pretty marvellous in meeting her needs, she constantly needs reassurance and comfort from them to make her feel secure and so far they have provided it in spades for which I thank them. The managerial staff have also been very helpful with advice as to how to manage my wife's condition and allocating extra support when needed with the help of the social work dept in the area and to them, I say thank you also. It is early days yet but so far I can only commend their commitment to carry out a very difficult job.
After four weeks in Pentland View, there has been a positive improvement in my wife's health and appearance and is more alert and cheerful. Thank you.
My wife is well looked after in nice, comfortable surroundings. Staff are helpful and supportive.
My friend is very happy here loves the food, enjoys the banter with the staff. Would advise anyone to come here to stay as it is excellent and he is very well looked after and feels safe and secure.
I am very pleased with the care Mum receives here. During Mum's recent illness the staff could not have been more accommodating, helpful or understanding to our family. Nursing care has been excellent, with staff having a good understanding of dementia and cognitive decline.
My husband is very content, is looked after by very dedicated staff who interact with residents on all levels as well as with me and other visitors. I hold all nurses and support staff whom I met in high regard. Although I live quite a long way from the home, I am delighted my husband is in a loving and caring environment. I thank them all.
My father is generally well cared for at Barchester Pentland View and I am very grateful for the kind assistance of the staff and management there. The regular care staff and nurses know Dad well and I am reassured by that. I also know that if I raise any issues with the office, those are looked at immediately and acted upon. That gives me great peace of mind. The manager there is excellent. It is my general observation that some of my dad's care needs are very well met i.e access to activities, snacks, etc and other needs may need more attention i.e. fluid intake, ear wax, etc. The longer-term staff (those that have been there for years) appear to know Dad's needs well and make accommodations for him. I am less sure about the newer staff members. Thanks to all at Pentland View!
My wife has narrow veins and it is not an easy job to obtain a blood sample. A nurse in trying to get a sample tried and my wife ended up with five places where the attempt has been made. The dressings remained for a week. Someone more competent ought to have been chosen. On a visit, refreshments came around including a small bowl of ice cream. My wife has arthritic fingers and can't use utensils. I went to assist her to eat it with a teaspoon and the care assistant wouldn't let me. I enquired why and was told she had to do it, not me. No reason was given. Not much care there!
My father is receiving excellent care at Pentland View. In his own words, he told me " I can't think of enjoying anything as much as I enjoy this place, I love my room and the lovely outlook". The staff are lovely, friendly and efficient and there are activities dad enjoys. His room is clean and tidy and dad is clean and well dressed. he enjoys the meals. Excellent. Thank you.
My mother has been a resident for over 4 months now and has received an exceptional level of care from day 1. Staff are excellent, friendly and efficient. Mum is very happy and we as a family take comfort that she is being well looked after. We visit 3 times a week and her room is always very clean and tidy. It is an acceptable size, well equipped and has a lovely garden view. A wide range of organised activities for residents and visiting arrangements are very flexible. Good communication from management/staff regarding any planned changes to mum's medication, hospital visits etc. We are so blessed to have such a lovely care home near to where we live.
While the staff who look after my mother are very nice, kind, and caring, I find communication with management difficult. The rooms are very small and basic with washing facilities only, a toilet and a sink. Surprising given the cost to residents. I do think it would be helpful if deep cleaning was carried out more often. Dementia residents do not have the same level of facilities as other residents. Dementia patients eat in their small lounge come eating area, while other residents have a separate dining room and very large, spacious lounge which overlooks the garden. Very nice garden. Dementia patients can use the large lounge on request, but do have to leave if there is a staff meeting in there. The dementia patients do not have a direct view of the garden. During Covid, communication with management in this home has been difficult to the point of being obstructive. This should be a home from home for the residents, but sadly I do not think this is the case for my mum.
Room reasonably small, not satisfactorily laid out i.e space for setting things or plugging in things, not enough sockets. The bathroom is small and constantly full of things that won't fit in the room. Variety of food, not great! Contact through the recent outbreak of Covid was poor - no answer with phone and no regular updates. Manageress could do with some training on how to speak to people.
My wife continues to be cared for as a much-loved family member, because of acute mobility problems on top of her advanced dementia issues, her care has never been easy and of course, Covid-19 has not helped in this regard. Yet the standard of care she receives has never been found wanting. The writer has experienced a lot of difficulty in communication with the NHS recently. The home has been very supportive during this time.
Overall very good. Individually staff are excellent (those who actually care for residents). Do not like it when certain words etc are frowned upon ie death/died etc by management. It is natural. More blue badge parking space is required. Provision for visitors is very good. Full-time physio and weekly doctors visit. It would be good if ears were checked (and syringed) by a nurse every month as wax builds up in elderly people, making them deaf. Six rails on beds for those who may fall out. Most companies get fed up with us commenting and making suggestions. We do not give top or bottom marks.
Excellent home. Very clean. Staff very friendly and helpful. Very caring. Nursing staff are excellent and management excellent.
Staff not only provide care to their residents but are supportive of families through the dementia journey. Personal centred approach evident when visiting and good rapport between staff and residents.
My husband has lived here for 18 months. We had respite experience of another home. Pentland View is vastly superior. The quality standard comes from the top. The manager of Pentland View and senior nursing staff are approachable and very hands-on and dependable. My concerns always are acknowledged and addressed. The carers are kind and considerate.
