View Full Details of Fidra HouseThe professional medical and auxiliary care are excellent; my relative is very well looked after and is very happy and reassured in the home. Sometimes, communication with management and staff can be complicated for us because we don't live locally and visit once a month. Hopefully, since pointing this out to the management, this will improve.
My husband has been a resident of Fidra House for 18 months. Throughout this time I have found the care to be exceptional. All the staff both care and support staff are very friendly and address me by name. This creates a relaxed, though professional attitude.
My mum has been a resident at Fidra now for 18 months and absolutely loves it. The staff go above and beyond to accommodate mums needs and always make us as a family very welcoming every time we visit. The home is extremely clean and friendly and provide a wonderful loving environment to all their residents. Mum particularly loves the activities and we are always notified of anything she participates in and communication between the home and the family is fantastic. The senior staff always make sure we are involved in any aspect of mums care and keep us updated with anything that's going on. Mum unfortunately became very poorly latter end of last year and thanks to the staffs quick thinking and response she was admitted to hospital where she stayed for 6 weeks before going back home to Fidra. It was so lovely to see all the staff welcoming her back and as family we are so grateful to them. Working as a nurse myself it's reassuring to know mum is being looked after with care and compassion.
My husband and I had Christmas lunch with my father which was lovely. All the staff, as always, were very welcoming and friendly. The meal was very good and we all enjoyed it. A couple of days later our daughter and her family came for the day. This included 3 young children (my fathers great -grandchildren) and their dog! Again we were made to feel very welcome and as there were so many of us, we were given the "quite room" - although not very quiet with the children! Everyone was very welcoming and we were given tea and coffee and some treats for the children. The atmosphere at Fidra is always friendly, welcoming and as homelike as they can make it.
My mother has been at Fidra House for two years now and my initial scepticism regarding how she would be treated very quickly disappeared. She is so well looked after by a kind and caring staff. She is very comfortable and even though she cannot articulate her feelings, I believe she is happy there. Thank you to all the staff.
My father has been a resident of Fidra House since 2017 and the care he has received since day one has been really excellent. It's hard to put into words what peace of mind for the family this has been. All the staff are so caring and friendly that we now consider them part of our family. They have dealt with all the ups and downs of the last 7 years with amazing equanimity and professionalism.
We were absolutely delighted to hear about the new Wheelchair Access Vehicle (WAV) that was purchased by Fidra House Carer Home, we were astonished to hear that family were invited to use this facility. When enquiring about using the vehicle the staff went out their way to help us with the necessary forms and procedures to make this possible. I was given a thorough demonstration by a member of staff who went over and above to make me feel confident to take my father in law for his first outing in the car, albeit a short journey but one so worth while to be able to attend a charity Christmas lunch. A charity very close to his heart whom he had been the foundation for many years. Attending this occasion lifted his spirits and was reunited with many of his fellow volunteers. The whole experience was uplifting. The day to day care of my father in law and visits we have to him at the home are always a happy and homely experience. The staff are amazing, couldn't ask for better for my beloved family member.
My mother in law has been a resident at Fidra House for the last 5 years. She took a little time to adjust to her new surroundings, and being part of a larger integral family. The staff at Fidra were very good with her encouraging her to participate in the social aspect of her new home, and supporting her through this difficult transition in her life. The excellent care she has received at Fidra House over the years has allowed her to enjoy her twilight years and provided the family with peace of mind knowing that her wellbeing is being overseen by professional and friendly nurses/carers around her.
The staff never cease to amaze me in their dedication and care. They remain professional, objective and detached but somehow still manage to give an amazing amount of friendly, compassionate care. I can not speak highly enough of the dedication and effort they put in day after day. Residents do not want to be in a care home, and few relatives want them to be there, but the staff make this difficult situation more than tolerable and it's frequently a pleasure to visit. Always a smile and jovialness from all the team, no matter how difficult a day they are clearly having at times.
My father in law sadly passed away and our family had to, very quickly, find care for my mother in law, who has advanced dementia. A visit to Fidra, turned out to be our best move that day! The staff and management we spoke to were so knowledgeable, understanding and caring, and thankfully they had availability. My mother in law moved in the following week and has settled in so well. She is happy, well cared for, well fed and has a wonderful room that she loves. The staff are all so caring, friendly and considerate. She has settled in so well and has been encouraged to socialise with the other residents. There are great activities to take part in, some she does and some she doesn't. The staff really are fabulous as are the management who are also very approachable and I cannot thank them all enough for everything they do for my mother in law.
We were very impressed during our initial visit to Fidra House, due to the general atmosphere, cleanliness and overall environment of the care home. Mum moved into Fidra House in December 2023, and we have been delighted at how quickly she settled into her new home. This is most certainly due to the wonderful care that all members of staff have given her. We visit regularly and are always cheerfully greeted by the friendly, approachable staff members. Our mum is very happy here and particularly enjoys outings in the minibus, and walking in the garden. She is very pleased with her room and often comments on how comfortable, lovely and bright it is. Mum enjoys the social aspects of her days and sometimes joins in with the many activities provided, she also enjoys the communal dining. We are exceedingly pleased that our mum is so happy and well cared for, and would highly recommend Fidra House to anyone in the same position we were in when our mum needed extra professional care.
Since admission, my mum who had no previous experience of care, has settled and flourished within the care of Fidra House. I feel this is due to the relaxed and settled atmosphere within the home. Her room is bright comfy and clean the corridors wide airy and tidy encouraging residents to mobilise to and from their rooms and lounges. I can not fault the care staff who are always cheerful friendly and caring to residents and families. My mum insists on leaving her bedroom door open whenever she is in the room so she can wave to staff as they pass by. Activities are varied and inclusive with enthusiastic and encouraging leaders. We held a small 90th birthday celebration which the staff quickly reorganised for us when our garden plans were disrupted by the weather. I would like to assure families that if you are looking for first-class care contact Fidra House and you will not be disappointed.
Our mother chose to move to a care home in May of 2023 and was lucky enough to get a place in the July. From the start, we were impressed by the standard of care in Fidra and the general housekeeping of the home. She had a lovely room overlooking the enclosed garden and last summer we spent many happy visits in the garden enjoying the flowers and the sensory garden. As mum's mental health declined the staff proved themselves to be wonderfully caring of mum in every way but also to ourselves, both the family who were close enough to visit regularly and her extended family of two daughters who live abroad when they visited or phoned. Mum settled quickly and remained in Fidra until her death earlier this month which was managed with the utmost compassion and love for all of us. We can't praise you enough for both your care of mum and of ourselves. Thank you.
Visited my relative in Fidra for the first time today and was so relieved to see she is being so well cared for. She has a room with a beautiful view of the garden, and all her home comforts. The dining/TV room had French doors open out onto the garden which means all residents are able to enjoy the outdoors too. Very impressive. I can’t comment on some of the points as eg didn’t witness my relative eating when I visited
Mum has Alzheimers Disease and moved into Fidra House kicking and screaming in September 2022. We travelled from Australia to oversee the transition which was traumatic for all. Anyway, Mum quickly settled in and now participates in every activity going! She loves living there and is no longer isolated and lonely, all of which seems to have helped her general well-being. We are happy knowing she is well fed, receives her medication as required and her personal hygiene is looked after. We were impressed with the ensuite room allocated to Mum, the facilities and activities available and above all the caring and friendly approach of all the staff we met. I'd recommend Fidra House if you are looking for a care home in the area.
The staff are always friendly and caring towards my dad. Even when he has tricky days, they show patience and understanding. He enjoys chatting to the staff, and any grumble he might have, the staff listen and try and help where possible.
Hello there. Anybody visiting Fidra will know as soon as you go in through the front door, that the staff are all friendly and knowledgeable about how to deliver the care that is needed. In spite of all the other health problems outside Fidra at the moment, they are very careful, making sure that all the safety measures are happening before you are allowed in for the visit, and throughout the visit. Mum's room is nice and clean, and she has enough personal things there so that she can feel comfortable when she looks around too. All in all, this seems to be a nice, well-run place. Thanks.
My wife has been a resident for five years and I have to say I have been satisfied with her care and wellbeing. The management and staff are efficient and caring and very approachable. Furthermore, during the present Covid situation they have coped extremely well without any incidents.
From the minute you walk in, lovely friendly atmosphere at reception. Lovely clean smell kept to a high standard of cleanliness. Staff are always friendly and helpful. Have done an excellent job with regard to Covid with all the restrictions.
Home very clean and tidy and staff only too willing to help with any issues. Don't see the food served but from feedback, it seems it is good quality and nutritional. Lovely surroundings and garden well kept, all in all, I'm very happy with the care given.
