View Full Details of Struan LodgeMy experience of Struan Lodge has been excellent from our first visit. They have helped my sister settle in and are looking after her needs in a caring environment. All staff are friendly and welcoming and know all the individual residents.
Recovering from a hip replacement my husband required extra safety equipment in his room and constant supervision, both were provided. Staff interacted with residents well and also try to ensure they meet the care required. The staff are friendly and try to ensure you have a pleasant visit.
I have been visiting a friend for 6 months, just over and have always been impressed with the treatment she has been receiving. The staff go over and above to make residents comfortable and encourage them to take part in a variety of activities. The home is always spotlessly clean throughout from the rooms to the communal areas. The food always looks and smells fresh and seems to be enjoyed by the residents. A good selection is always on offer. Having a hairdresser on site is just another personal touch which I think is important for self-worth. As a regular visitor, the care I witness can only be described as excellent.
My sister has been a resident since October 23. The care she has received has been second to none. The admission process was smooth, and the welcome we got was excellent. The staff know everyone by name and will speak to them even just in passing, which is lovely to see. It is very quiet in and outside. The staff have taken the time to know her likes and dislikes and are happy for our input on what, if anything, they can do better. She was recently admitted to the hospital, and the staff were so quick to alert us that she was unwell and kept us informed at every stage, allowing us to be with her the entire time. We are welcome to visit at any time and stay for meals, which shows they are happy for you to be there at any time.
Above and beyond. Management and staff are professional, fully dedicated, caring and a committed team. As a family, we are so grateful that our uncle receives the quality of care and attention that he requires for his specialised needs. It's peace of mind to our family that our uncle is happy, content, and well looked after.
My mother's care in this nursing home is excellent. My mother has dementia; she can answer appropriately and knows her family. She does not like to be touched, which makes nursing care difficult, but the staff manage, and she is always fresh and well cared for. She spends most of her days in bed; she has to be hoisted, which she does not like, but has been done recently and hopefully will be again soon. The staff are considerate, kind and respectful. Their communication skills are also excellent.
I was a carer for my sister for over six years after she was found to have dementia, I felt I could not provide the professional skill she required to maintain a comfortable standard of living. It was upsetting when the GP advised she would be better looked after in a care home. After checking out several homes, Struan Lodge felt comfortable and homely. The staff were so welcoming to my sister and myself, so I knew she would settle in there. It was peace of mind for me. The staff keep me informed of any health updates relating to her. They go out of their way to maintain a happy home.
My mother developed dementia in her mid-eighties and has now been a resident for over four years. Our GP recommended Struan Lodge when we were looking for a place where Mum would receive the care she needed, and I am so pleased she got a place there. She was made to feel welcome from the first day, quickly settled in after a short period of confusion, and is now very content. The home is relatively small, which makes it feel more intimate and friendly. It also means that you get to know most of the staff, and though there is some turnover, I can say that without exception, they have all been really great with Mum. They also keep me fully informed of her condition at all times, and we have regular reviews about her care plan. I have peace of mind knowing that Mum is in good hands.
I cannot stress enough the kindness and competence of all the staff at Struan Lodge. Every time I phone or visit my gran, every member of staff knows who she is and is up to date with her care needs. They are so kind to my gran at all times and are often in touch to keep us up-to-date and involved in her care. Before my gran was in a care home, she was with us full-time, so it was a big adjustment and a very emotional time for us. My gran has settled in so, so well, mostly due to the kindness she experiences. She may have dementia, but she knows that she is being well looked after and often says how lucky she is. It gives us great peace of mind. The food is great, the hairdresser always makes her look great, and the activities are fab. Cannot praise the Struan Lodge staff enough.
Our mum moved into Struan at the end of June following a very rapid decline in her cognitive ability with Alzheimer's. As with any move with a loved one with dementia, there were a few admin teething issues but not around the care of our mum, which has been and is absolutely amazing! My mum has settled so well, and this is down to the staff and management of the home who provide such good care to all residents. My mum is taking part in activities she would not normally do; she has friends with other residents, having chats and tea regularly. The staff took time to get to know us and our mum, asking about her, our wider family, what she was like etc, so they can interact with her and support her, as like with anything, she has good and bad days with her illness. As with the whole care sector, staffing issues can be a problem, but we know this is not the home's fault, and the agency staff they do get are lovely as well. We feel lucky to have mum in here; they are an extension of our family.
The only downside to this care home, but it’s like most others, is the frequent use of agency staff - residents really appreciate continuity, but I realise with Brexit etc; it is inevitable. My one gripe is that the costs go up, yet on what? Not the staff wages for sure; if they did, most relatives would be happy to pay the cost. Huge improvement with the re-employment as since the managers left, they have been lacking empathy and general social skills with relatives. My admiration for all staff is at the top level, most of the carers have been there since my relative moved into Struan.
My mum has been coming to Struan Lodge for regular respite for the last couple of months. The staff have been very good at listening to my sister and myself when explaining her specific care needs and have been very caring towards her. The have made an effort to get to know her, and we are very happy that my dad can have a break from being her main carer and know she is being well looked after. The location of the home, next to the cycle path and golf course, mean we can take her out for a walk, which is also a bonus.
Our father was placed in Struan Lodge to free up a hospital bed until he could return home with a care package. We are very happy to report that the staff were very friendly, attentive and were always ready to listen and deal with any concerns and worries we had about our dad. He enjoyed his short stay there (a big shout out to the chef for the lovely cakes) and is now back home with his wife. Many thanks to all the staff for looking after our dad so well.
I am a friendly and joint power of attorney for a lady who was placed in Struan Lodge to free up a hospital bed until she could be returned to her house with a care package. The home was clean and well suited. The view from her bedroom window of trees and wildlife was particularly appreciated by her. Staff were welcoming and friendly to her need and took her for local walks, which she loved. Very helpful and nice.
I am very pleased with how my mum is looked after. I would say I would like a permanent hairdresser, as you did have one that was in every Monday, and my mum's hair was always nice as she is used to getting it done, but now her hair is a mess with an Aliceband - not good. I also think the rooms could get a wee bit of colour on the walls as they seem to be spending more and more time in there; it would cheer the residents up.
In the past year, the care home has been subjected to the stressful rigours of coping with Covid 19 whilst maintaining the high standards of caring for its residents. The management, carers and other staff have successfully applied all the many regulations required to prevent an outbreak of this dreadful disease, and I am very grateful for that. My wife has now been in Struan for almost 2-years, and I have witnessed the original high standard of care being maintained during this time. Since I have not been allowed into the building for 10-months, I am unable to complete the options. These options I have marked 'satisfactory'. However, I have every confidence that high standards are being maintained. The only communications I get with my wife is by using the video link. By modern standards the quality of this system is not so good - it needs replacing.
My mother has been a resident of Struan Lodge for over a year. She has a bright room with a view over the well maintained, attractive and colourful garden, which she loves to look at through her window. She can also watch walkers and cyclists going along the public footpath nearby. Mum has been thoughtfully and consistently well cared for by members of staff throughout her stay, which has been during the very challenging period of Covid 19. Mum's individual needs have been attended to, and she has always been treated with dignity and respect. Any concerns or queries that I have had have been answered promptly and with consideration.
My family and I are very happy with my husband’s care. He has settled in very quickly and at no point has he complained about anything within the home. I have always found the staff to be very helpful and courteous. I was dreading the time when I would have to put my husband into a care home but this hasn’t happened due to the care and devotion shown by the staff. Thank you all very much.
I am so pleased to leave a recommendation for Struan Lodge. My Mum had really hit crisis point staying at home late last year and we arranged for her to move to a Care Home quite reluctantly. However, Struan Lodge have been fantastic. The staff are simply lovely. It is such a relief to know Mum is being looked after so well. Her dementia is so progressed it makes things very difficult but they treat her with the greatest respect and it's a weight off our shoulders to know she is clean, safe and happy. Her room has a lovely view of the trees, birds and squirrels and we've made it homely with her own bedding and lots of photos. She is a falls risk since she is blind in one eye and quite frail and the manager and staff made special additional arrangements during the Covid lockdown to ensure she was safe. Thank you so much to everyone at Struan Lodge for everything you are doing for all your residents at what must be a very stressful time.
Despite the restrictions on visiting, the care provider has kept me up to date with everything happening, especially the issues regarding Covid19. I get regular updates either via an email or the regular newsletter.
