View Full Details of Abbotsford Nursing HomeThe care my parents receive at Abbotsford Nursing Home is so wonderful. The staff treat them with such kindness and respect. They genuinely treat them like they are members of their own family. The staff are warm, gentle and amazing. Always there with a joke and a cuppa and a biscuit. Every member of staff you come into contact with gives you their time. There are lots of activities on offer and nothing is too much trouble. They will accommodate any requests with a gentle touch. We are so well informed of every aspect of their care. As a family, we cannot express the happiness and gratitude we feel that our parents are so well cared for.
Mum became a resident in Abbotsford in June 2023 after a shocking experience in another care home. Over the next 3 or 4 months they managed to get Mum back to a similar condition to when she entered the first care home. There are many activities run by staff and all the residents encouraged to participate. Her condition meant that she thought that she was back at work as a cleaner. The staff would play along and gave her a pinny and her old carpet sweeper. She would boss the staff about and tell them how the cleaning should be done. We celebrated her 91st Birthday party in the lovely big room that looks across to Arran with most of the staff singing Happy Birthday to her. The professionalism and care of all the staff allowed us to spend quality time with her for the last year of her life. They always made us so welcome, were friendly and nothing was too much effort. Dinner with residents for visitors was available at no extra cost and there was always plentiful tea/coffee & biscuits.
This is my second review as Dad has been living here for nearly a year. Everything that was right from the beginning continues to be excellent. I am constantly delighted by the wide range of activities for residents and that he has the choice of taking part or not depending on how he feels. He has so much contact with staff, whether he is resting in his room alone, or having his meal in the dining room, or attending events in the lounge. It's lovely to see him so well groomed and cared for in a homely and clean setting. He's been on the ferry to Arran for the day which is great, as he's always been keen on the boats and we didn't imagine he'd ever be on it again. We picked the home partly because of the lovely views of the harbour. He has put on weight and his colour is so much better. A couple of times he's been poorly and had very quick attention from the local GP. I know a bit about care homes professionally and I could not ask for more. I am so impressed and also grateful.
My brother has been a resident at Abbotsford since October 2022. He is dependent on the staff for all of his needs, eating, drinking, personal care etc. He was warmly welcomed from the first day and settled in very well. His general health and mental well-being have improved enormously and he feels very safe and well looked after. The staff are friendly, professional, and caring and make sure that my brother's needs are met. I visit weekly and can see for myself how much improvement my brother has made and how settled he feels. They are regular activities laid on which has helped him to feel part of the home community. A staff member took him out to the local cinema on her day off, and another recently took him out shopping for new clothes. In July he and 11 other residents, with 12 staff (again on their days off) made a day trip over to the local town for fish and chips and some sea air. I feel reassured that my brother is receiving the care he needs in such a supportive and homely environment.
Abbotsford staff are amazing. In their spare time, on June 29th, they took eight residents across in wheelchairs to the Isle of Arran on the ferry for a few hours. This was no mean feat and such an incredibly generous act. Two of those residents come from Arran, one of them my mum, and it meant the world to her. I was there to see how much everyone enjoyed their day out, including the staff, who are clearly a close-knit team who have a lot of fun together. Nothing is too much trouble for them - they go above and beyond when it comes to fulfilling the wishes of the residents and caring for them in general. We feel so privileged to have been able to get my mum into Abbotsford. The rooms are nicely decorated, comfortable and kept clean. Mum enjoys the food, the activities and the company. Most importantly, the care in every sense is truly excellent. Every resident is made to feel special. Can't recommend Abbotsford highly enough - can't thank the staff highly enough for all they do.
The overall impression of Abbotsford is of a caring, friendly, welcoming community. All staff know all the residents, visitors are welcomed, and family are kept well informed. Staff are very approachable and helpful. Abbotsford has a homely feel. It is very well maintained and presented; attractive both inside and outside. Food is excellent and plentiful. There is a great variety of activities on offer for residents, who are gently encouraged to participate, but without pressure. Staff engage enthusiastically. The excellence of Abbotsford comes from the remarkable staff who work there, across all job roles. Their commitment is outstanding; for example a number of staff volunteered to take residents on a day trip to a specific island in their own time. It's impossible to put a value on that. Mum refers to Abbotsford as "our place" - it really is her home, and we are very grateful that the medical care, personal help, and support she needs is provided in a great and vibrant environment.
As a family we never envisaged our mum having to require care that we couldn't provide. However, some decisions can sadly be out of your control and this was the case when our mum required 24-hour nursing care. Our mum was a resident in Abbotsford for almost 2 years. During that time the staff got to know her and our family really well. She was so well cared for by everyone. She was encouraged to socialise and to be involved in the many activities run by staff. At the same time if she wanted a day relaxing in her room her wishes were respected. As a family we always felt involved with Mum's care at Abbotsford. We were always kept informed and we could visit at any time. We can't express our gratitude enough towards the caring, professional staff at Abbotsford. They work so well as a team and in turn that comes across as such a friendly and welcoming atmosphere to both residents and visitors. My sister and I could rest easy knowing Mum was safe in Abbotsford.
I would like to thank everyone from the office to nurses to care staff, kitchen and laundry staff for their support and care they all went above and beyond in everything that they could do I went home at day or night knowing my friend was well cared for. I would highly recommend this home because that’s what it is to the residents (home). So I thank everyone for their care to my friend who has sadly passed away now but I have no regrets about her being in Abbotsford Nursing Home so I thank you all.
With support and advice from Abbotsford management, my dad entered Abbotsford in April 2023 and immediately felt very much at home due to the warm and caring nature of all the staff. I feel very lucky that my dad has settled in well and I feel confident that he is well looked after. The staff are all very caring and compassionate, not just to my dad but to the wider family and I've always felt very welcome. I've always been impressed with the different daily activities whether it be quizzes, singalongs, Football Memories sessions, bowling etc. My dad loves music and has really enjoyed these types of activities. There is always something going on to stimulate the residents. The meals are always excellent and varied and I know dad is often given an extra cake or two! I am particularly impressed how the staff contact me and advised if dad has had an accident etc. I feel very lucky and relieved dad is placed in such a lovely, caring nursing home.
Mum was having a terrible time with Alzheimer's and had bad experiences with other care homes before we were lucky enough to find Abbotsford Nursing Home. Everyone was just lovely, so kind and caring, compassionate and professional. The standards of care, hygiene, cleanliness and cosiness are all outstanding. It is quite a small home in an excellent, homely environment so Mum felt comfortable and got to know all the staff really well. I know she was relaxed as she got back some of her cheerfulness. She loved her pretty room and view of the garden. We feel blessed to have had such a good experience for Mum when she needed it most. I can't thank everyone at Abbotsford enough for everything they did for us.
Very impressed with the high standards of cleanliness and care in this home. The staff are very friendly, welcoming and professional and kind to the residents and visitors alike.
After a terrible experience in another care home, I observed intently all staff. The family are always so welcome at events, and I soon relaxed as I observed staff/residents interactions. They are so aware of residents' needs/abilities and were caring to all. It has a homely ambience, and the cleanliness is excellent. Residents were treated with dignity and respect. The food and drink was amazing and plentiful. Five stars to this fabulous place. Mum passed away on the 18th of June, and the support and care we all received as she slipped away was so comforting. They all lined up as she was leaving.
I was very impressed with the nursing home. The staff couldn't do enough for all the family. They treated my mum with dignity and everyone was really so kind. My mum had been looked after so well. It was just like a big family. I will always be so thankful to everyone for all their kindness to my mum and our family. Thank you so much for everything.
Abbotsford Nursing Home is a home from home. The staff are truly amazing, caring, loving and knowledgeable. Management are approachable and proactive and nothing is too much trouble. The events coordinator does a tremendous job of keeping everyone entertained and was always on hand to encourage and support the residents. I always felt confident leaving my Dad in their capable hands as I knew he was receiving the best of care. I wish I'd placed him in the Abbotsford Nursing Home at the very beginning.
