My mother has been at Canal View for two years now. The care given to her has been very good. She is loved, safe and well cared for. The whole team from cleaners, catering, carers and management all show dedication, love and work to a high standard. My mother has been on end of life care for 4 months now. This care my mum has received now extends to supporting myself. I cannot thank the team enough, their excellent.
My mum went in Canal Vue for respite care whilst I was away on holiday. Mum was very well looked after and the staff made her very welcome. She is happy to return when I next go on holiday.
Reasonably happy with mums care, although she has had too many hearing aids go missing, as well as both top and bottom sets of her false teeth!! Which we still haven't replaced due to them being over £800 per set and despite putting names in the majority of mum's clothes, she still gets other peoples clothes.
My husband has had a fantastic time while in respite here. He was looked after so well and the staff fell in love with him. He has befriended many of the staff and got on well with other residents in the home. On a personal note, I want to thank the staff for all they have done for both, my husband and I during his stay here.
My Dad was placed there as he kept having bad falls at home very regularly and it was very hard to manage anymore. He has dementia and Alzheimers he has settled in. I can not fault the home at all. The staff are always friendly and available if they are needed. Keep up the good work. What I like is there is always some kind of activity happening, so much better than another care home my Dad temporarily stayed in.
I would recommend Canal Vue R/H to everyone, my wife is being looked after wonderfully well, she suffers from vascular dementia. So it's not easy for anyone, but the staff are all amazing with her. I can't thank them enough.
The home is in a nice location for access and a lovely outlook for the residents. The staff are very caring and very friendly. Mum has been very happy here and I would definitely recommend it.
Excellent friendly kind caring staff. Lots of activities for the residents to take part in. They even do the ladies' hair and nails which I know made my friend feel so much better about herself. Safe environment just like one big family. Excellent food especially teatimes with at least 6 sandwich fillings to choose from and homemade cake. Very clean, all rooms are cleaned daily. The office staff helped us a lot and the carers are second to none. The grounds are kept nice, good parking, and safety measures are always in place. Never saw a member of staff sat down unless doing paperwork. Lots of fundraising events and hard work put into these and planning. Even had an ice cream van visit during hot months. A great home with the best of carers and office staff.
Mum has settled into Canal Vue very good. She doesn't ask if she's going home now. The carers are very good with Mum. The full-time carers that is, agency workers don't seem as caring, there is a language barrier with some of them and they don't interact with Mum as well as other carers.
My aunt has been in Canal Vue Care Home for a few years and she is always happy and smiling. The staff are so accommodating, caring and make time to talk with me. Lovely staff, all of them, from the head of care to the girls sorting the laundry. My only concern is that some of the staff call my auntie "sweetheart" and "darling", it's only small but I am so keen for her to keep her name. Some pictures of old Ilkeston would be great too on the walls or a folder. Thanks everyone, especially the staff on floor one.
Awful. My Father went to Canal Vue after leaving the hospital, he has mixed dementia and is non-mobile. During the first few weeks, he had a total of 3 falls from lack of supervision. I have never experienced a lack of caring like this setting and as a family, we found it very stressful that every time we visited there seemed to be another issue, they lost his clothes and ruined his shoes and left him in a half-dressed, often dirty mess. Needless to say, my father has now moved to a home that cares for his needs. On the day that he left some of the staff were not helpful and very rude.
The home literally helped my mum to get back on her feet. My mum arrived at Canal Vue Care Home after a difficult time. She had recently been taken into hospital and she was discharged to help her to convalesce. I personally found the staff always to be very helpful and they were always very nice to my mum and in good spirits as they cared for her. The home had a lovely atmosphere and would be somewhere that I would personally recommend.
My parents were placed at Canal Vue in January 2022, temporarily for assessment. Throughout their stay my parents couldn't praise the staff enough, saying how kind they all were, how they only had to "ask and it was done", and they also commented regularly on how nice the food was and how much they got LOL. We as a family were very reassured at this difficult time and can't thank the staff enough. From our experience, I would not hesitate to recommend Canal Vue.
Mum was in Canal Vue Care Home temporarily after a fall. The staff were very kind, thoughtful and caring. Food was great. Nothing was too much trouble. Mum had a lovely view of the canal from her room and enjoyed watching the swans and ducks on the water. Lovely home.
Whilst having mum and dad in Canal Vue their care has been excellent. Caring staff. Always happy to update. Nothing is too much trouble. Food generous portions with good quality. Activities are very good. Overall excellent and would definitely recommend.
Very clean and the staff are lovely. The rooms are big. The food looks good and decent portions. Good security and the views are good.
My mother has been at Canal Vue for a year now following a spell in hospital and we have been extremely pleased with the way the home have looked after her. She was struggling in her own home, but since moving to Canal Vue her disposition has improved immeasurably and she is now very calm and seems reasonably happy, having always said she wanted to stay at home. The activities coordinator has been particularly helpful to both Mum and ourselves in arranging chats over Zoom as we live in Guernsey and are unable to get over to the UK due to the Covid travel restrictions in place. Mum seems to have struck up a friendship with the activities coordinator despite her loss of memory and depends on her for our chats which is much appreciated by ourselves. A big pat on the back to her.
The staff did a remarkable job looking after my father, from the outset, everyone worked together. Due to deteriorating health, the need for a care home was urgent. This was smoothly accommodated and he was made welcome in a lovely room overlooking the canal. This was really important, as leaving your own home is a big ‘step’ (staff really made an effort to keep him company). The activities lady was brilliant, she managed to engage him in gardening chat, he had lots of knowledge and sharing it was good for him, he even planted seeds. It meant a lot to the family at this very sad time, when he was not his usual able self, that she could spend time with him and involve him in some activities; iPad, planting, dominoes etc. He became bed-bound, the staff made sure he was well cared for, whilst preserving his dignity. He could not have managed at home and we are grateful for the care and consideration he was given by knowledgeable staff, experienced in looking after the elderly.
Since Mum has been at Canal Vue, I have been impressed by the staff. They give me the confidence that Mum is always being treated well. They arrange video chats and send pictures of Mum doing activities and looking happy. She has also let me send her photos, so Mum can see her Granddaughters play. I would definitely recommend Canal Vue to other families looking to put a parent or loved one in safe hands.
The staff at Canal Vue are always wonderful with Mum. This has been especially so during the Covid situation where they have always made sure that she is safe and happy. Mum has been encouraged to do Zoom chats with me and these have always been set up with ease. They’ve been brilliant for both Mum and myself. It’s lovely being able to see her smiling and looking so well. She’s obviously being well cared for; little things like having her hair brushed especially for the chat, help her maintain her dignity. Mum particularly says how much she enjoys the food and that her room is always clean and tidy. It’s great that there are now more activities for her to take part in. It’s a wonderful idea that we are sent photos of her doing the activities. All in all, I’m so pleased with Canal Vue. The staff are all so friendly and willing to help.
